Oblivion had basically every environment except deserts, which Fallot 3 generously provided.
I know Oblivion had so many different enviroments, like generic English countryside, slightly marshy English countryside and the snowy bit around Bruma. So that's a total of three noticably different enviroments in Oblivion. As opposed to Morrowinds ten distinct geographical areas.
Plains? Check
Mountainous terrain? Check
Hills? Check
Light Forests? Check
Dense Forests? Check
Snow? Check
Marshes & Swamps? Check
Deserts? Fallout 3
Dive Rock? Adoring Fan

You just need to look a little harder to notice the difference in terrain.
Ok, so they make terrain that's slightly different from terrain elsewhere, the point is that it's quite unlike Morrowind, where the terrain looks completely different than the terrain in another area. In Oblivion it was more like "Oh, look a slightly different type of tree, my god this game is biologically diverse."

Morrowind had giant mushrooms that people lived in. Just try and beat that.

I have a very simple list of demands. Polearms, mounted combat, multi-player and having it take place in skyrim, screw those pansy elves and boring imperials.

Multi-player would be nice cause one of the iconic fantasy things is a group of adventurers who through their various combined talents achieve nice synergy.

Polearms cause I like weapons with a lot of reach and they are a fairly iconic fantasy weapon, I am sick of all this sword fixation going through fantasy.

Mounted combat is just cause I hate having to feel helpless on my horse and it just makes sense.

Skyrim is the homeland of the Nords who basically fill the fantasy niche' of a dwarf except they are tall. Fact: Dwarves = Awesome. Fact: Tall = Awesome. Fact: Awesome squared = Awesomegasmic. Therefore, Nords = Awesomegasmic.

I want more magic. That was the best part of the game...

I think it will be a great game, combining what the developers improved on in Fallout and the fantasy vibe of the ES series. I don't want the formula tweaked too much though.

Skyrim seems to be the popular choice, although the Summerset Isles are a definite possibility.

Black Marsh is highly unlikely, as the air is apparently poisonous (hence the Argonian resistance to poison).

Elsweyr is basically a desert, so unless they come up with some interesting stuff, I doubt it'll be there. Actually, it would be kind of cool if they could have both Elsweyr and Valenwood...together they're just a little bigger than Vvardenfell.

Actually, now that I think about it, I really really hope they have two provinces. Cyrodiil is so huge compared to the rest, and people will complain that the world isn't as large as Oblivion's.

Possibilities include:

Valenwood/Elsweyr
Summerset Isles/Valenwood (make it an elf-fest!)
Skyrim/High Rock
Morrowind again (but the whole province, not just the island)

Hopefully TES5 will be a 360/PC exclusive, that is unless Bethesda feels like supporting a PS3 version after launch but their record isn't good. I'm never getting another Bethesda game for the PS3 again.

I got flamed for suggesting this on another post but they should come up with some sort of fantasy equivalent of VATS; ranged magic and archery were pretty worthless in Oblivion.

Reading this makes me think people don't realize FALLOUT 3 IS NOT AN ELDER SCROLLS GAME. If it is then I'm putting Dark Corners of the Earth in as well.

I like the setting though, but why stay on Tamriel? I want to travel to Akavir, or possibly a mystic adventure to sunken Yokuda. I'm sure there are plenty of places on Nirn to explore besides Tamriel.

I prefer Summerset Isles over Skyrim. I think it would be more interesting that way. Also, I'm tired of the "Scandinavian landscape" in RL.

Ranged magic is kickass if your character is built around magic...Archery on the other hand...It's easy to find a good bow, but the hard part is finding good arrows, like the arrows that are your current leveled loot, you only get a few of them whenever you find them...otherwise, you end up shooting only iron/steel arrows even at level fucking 20.

Ranged AoE spells were good @.@ but for magic I preferred things like cloak and Water Walking ... they were the only things I ever used .... security becomes next to useless when you get the skeleton key ....

I don't know, I think all skills are awesome ... in Oblivion and Morrowind I do 'selective levelling' at the start of the game ... get r10 ranks in endurance skills, 10 ranks in Intelligence (or whatever attribute you want) skills, then level up a class-specific major skill of one attribute by 10 ranks ...

So you can get three attributes when you level up at all x 5 multipliers :x Endurance seems to be the most important class ... because having a high endurance at the start of the game = more HP you get every level ...

So if you want to be the very best character regardless of class, just level up Endurance as quickly as possible :x Every other attribute you worry about later n.n

But then the game gets ridiculously easy once you hit level 12. Even on the hardest setting, you're like made of steel and can have 3-4 enemies chipping away at you whilst practicing your destruction skill.

So far in the series (not counting Arena) we've seen:

-Medival Europe (Daggerfall)
-Medival Arabia (Daggerfall)
-Pirateland (Redguard)
-Bizzare Acidtrip Horrorscape (Battlespire and the Shivering Isles)
-Hell (Oblivion)
-Heart of the Empire (Oblivion)
-Dark Elf Country (Morrowind)
-Vikingland (Bloodmoon)

It would seem to me that this leaves:

-Pretty Elven Forest (Valenwood)
-Hellish Swamp (Argonia)
-Rugged Mountain Country (Skyrim)
-Medival Japan (Akavir, kinda')
-Tropical Islands (Summerset Isles)

as possible candidates for The Elder Scrolls V.

Where did the first two elder scrolls take place?
The original (which Bethesda has released as freeware [http://www.elderscrolls.com/downloads/downloads_games.htm], by the way) featured the entire Empire, but it wasn't very detailed, and there was much copying-and-pasting of enviroments.

The second Elder Scrolls game took place in the Illiac Bay Region (which includes High Rock, home of the Bretons; and northern Hammerfell, home of the Redguards. Plus a bunch of Orcs scattered about.)

Then there were two spinoff games which took place A) On Stros M'Kai, an island off the coast of Hammerfell, and B) in the Battlespire, a dimension-spanning tower where Imperial Battlemages are trained.

News has come up that ESV might be coming out in 2010.

And that it might take place in Skyrim!

ROCK ON! F*CKING VIKINGS! YEAH!

I like Skyrim.

In late October 2008, shortly after the release of Fallout 3, Bethesda's Publishing Executive, Paul Oughton, indicated that the series' fifth installment could be released in 2010.[3] Zenimax, the owner of Bethesda Softworks, had trademarked the name "Skyrim" in 2006,[4] but its relation to the fifth installment of the series is uncertain.

What is illegal about it?

Names from The Elder Scrolls universe are the intellectual property of Bethesda Softworks. Bethesda Softworks is a subsidiary of the Zenimax Media Company. Thus, the names are indirectly property of the Zenimax Media Company.

So, here's my dream: remeber in Oblivion how they talked of how bad things were in Morrowind? Well I would like to go back, and save Morrowind, maybe re-kill Draoth Ur or something. In short I want The Elder Scrolls V: Morrowind II.

Re-Kill Dagoth Ur?

Wouldn't Dagoth Ur coming back make the entire thing about the Heart of Lorkhan pointless?

I'm thinking that an other god brought him back, Maybe he got back through a magical Oblivion Gate. I really didn't think this out. I'm just saying what I would like to see.

My guess is it will cover both cyrodil, and all of morrowind (not just the island) plus one or more areas

The story will probably revolve around Jygallag trying to restore order by force after the death of the royal family and the tribunal

I could be wrong of course, but it would be nice if they were to do something with the lore they setup with the last games and expansions
