Here's our band playing For whom the bell tolls from Metallica:
I'm the one on the right with the red Metallica T-shirt. Good times.
I know I look like a homeless cookie monster, that's yet another sacrifice if you want long hair.
I can do the vocals now, but I was still practicing them then. I think I have a video of them but it's on an obscure site.DukeBishop said:You guys need to put on some pounds. So thin!Diablini said:Fair enough.

Nice cover nonetheless. Vocals would've made it nicer

Haha! Nice Gonzo post! I actually think that would be an awesome idea, but it'd be hard to do. I have no idea of the technology involved or how to manipulate the videos or anything like that. If someone does and is willing to do it, hell yeah! It won't be my type of music, but it would be fun!ravens_nest said:Okay I was working on doing a cover of the Street Fighter theme but I've had a very cunning plan...
Rather than just doing me playing guitar, how's about we attempt to form...
THE FIRST EVER ESCAPIST BAND!
Yep, anyone remember the youtube orchestra? Well maybe we could attempt to form a song using audio and footage from several users? Then this would truly be a Jam Session...
We would each agree on a song to play, then record our individual parts to a click track. Then with the help of some studio engineering, we can put these pieces together and form the *worlds first song recorded by a band who were all in different places?* It would be even more awesome if videos were recorded during recording so we could even splice together a funky video...
*[small]may already have happened but fuck it[/small]*
What d'ya reckon?
EDIT: I just realised that was my gonzo post... Not bad...
I've got it mostly figured out, it shouldn't be too hard...Inverse Skies said:Haha! Nice Gonzo post! I actually think that would be an awesome idea, but it'd be hard to do. 15-minute drum solo! (cookie for reference).
Well I'm up for it, it sounds like great fun! What about a song like Starlight by Muse? Drums, Bass, Vocals, Guitar and Piano. I'm sure we'd easily find people who could put something like that together very easily. I don't know how you'd advertise it though. I mean the only way you can see it is through this thread and it wouldn't be right to make a new thread just to promote it. But if enough people saw it on here maybe...ravens_nest said:I've got it mostly figured out, it shouldn't be too hard...
Say we had a drummer, bassist, singer, guitarist, and a pianist.
We would all decide on a song to play together. We'll all record ourselves playing our parts to a click track. Which everyone would play to and it'd be set to the same tempo. That'll hopefully mean anything that is played will be in time. Also a key would needed to be chosen etc.
Once I have all of the recorded tracks I can mix them together on a program. Tweak some knobs here, fiddle with my cock there et voila, You have a song. This is how songs are recorded anyway.
Now if we were to video ourselves at the same time, so no mistakesI'm sure someone could make a cool music vid out of it.
Trust me, if enough people are willing and committed to it, it'll work.
You can count me in for the vocals or bass, if we do a song with vocals that is. But I'm thinking we should do an iconic game soundtrack first like Street Fighter for example.
Plus as long as bits are in time, we could make a song that featured any instrument from any number of willing Escapist's. Plus with keyboards we can replicate any instruments that no one can play. I sense some huge potential in this idea...
Hmm Starlight's vocals eh? I'm pretty confident I can handle them *sings along to song*, yeah I think that'd be alright. Cool, I'll assume you'll handle piano duties? I'm actually very impressed you've heard of them, I'm glad to hear they're getting around. Muse have been one of my favourite bands for years. I first saw them before way before they got big in England. In fact, the speaker in one of my old bass cabs came from Marshall, (whose factory is down the road from me) it was actually part of a set that were supposed to be reserved for Muse's bass player. Snooze you lose ha ha!Inverse Skies said:Well I'm up for it, it sounds like great fun! What about a song like Starlight by Muse? Drums, Bass, Vocals, Guitar and Piano. Let's keep it in the memory bank and see if people are willing to do it. I think it'd be awesome, we just need some others to help.
The only problem I can see is there will be too many people wanting to play one instrument (ie guitar). Unless some of those guitar players play bass or something. Or handofpwn might want to do bass for us or something. I'm not sure. There haven't been any drum players yet... but I'm sure they're out there.ravens_nest said:Hmm Starlight's vocals eh? We could look through the thread for suitable candidates and either quote them into this conversation or PM them. Given the nature of the endevour I don't think the Mod's will mind a thread advertising for members if we can't find them. It is from the community, for the community after all...(could even be submitted for the film festival if we're quick enough) Or you can modify the thread title temporarily.. Escapist Jam Thread - Now Recruiting, See Post 186 or something. Or put the idea in the OP, it's your call.
My only concern would be drums but they can be programmed if need be, but I don't have any decent 'virtual drumkits'. So i'd rather hang on for someone willing to do real drums. It's just notoriously hard to record a drumkit properly is all...
Well, I think the best thing would be to advertise via the thread, and subtley plug where appropriate in others, then organise ourselves from there... I don't think everyone will want to do the same songs, so we can make a list of who wants to do what, then do auditions I guess. If there are several guitarist that want to split duties then thats more than do-able, but it's not alway's for the benefit of the song. I don't mind directing multiple songs either, even If i'm not involved in the playing. I'm unemployed at the moment so I'd jump at the chance to actually do something for a change lol.Inverse Skies said:The only problem I can see is there will be too many people wanting to play one instrument (ie guitar). Um.... do you think it's best to mass PM/quote some people who we think might be interested? The only problem is I don't want to invite heaps of people to do it, then have to turn some people away because we've already got five guitar players or something. Or we get them to play a bit each or something maybe. I think it might be best to quote some people into this conversation, as this is the sort of thing where PM's flying back and forth probably won't work, especially if it's a group discussion on what we want to play and how we're going to organise it. What do you think?
Haha! Starlight vocals - just add a massive breath sound between each line!
I never noticed it either until one of my friends pointed it out saying "He's the only singer I know who can turning breathing into a lyric". Haha!ravens_nest said:Well, I think the best thing would be to advertise via the thread, and subtley plug where appropriate in others, then organise ourselves from there... When organised into 'bands' we can keep track of eachother using the User Groups tool.
Ya know, that's the second time I've heard someone point out Matt's excessive breathing... I never really noticed it before. A lot of producers will edit out some breath noises, or at least make them quieter. I guess he wanted to keep them in.
Oh there's always Jack Black and his crazy ways [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LA39LcYkY3Q]... It's actually pretty funny.Inverse Skies said:I never noticed it either until one of my friends pointed it out saying "He's the only singer I know who can turning breathing into a lyric". Haha!
I'll go and quote everyone who has contributed to this thread and see what kind of response we get from there. So keep an eye on this space to see what kind of response we get.
By the way, you're quite right about everyone not wanting to do the same music, but not many will want to do classical with me!

I have a Roland, electric drum kit. So recording drums is fairly straight forward(and fairly real sounding) for me. The problem being...my drum skills are entry level, check my 2 vids to see what I mean...I think Muse is going to be beyond my drum capability.ravens_nest said:Hmm Starlight's vocals eh? It doesn't have to be Muse, we could really play any song we wanted to. That's why we're having this discussion, to work things out about well... everything I guess.
