To Emipreth, I know you wanted to see my left hand but I promise I'll do that in the next piano piece I upload! (should be Chopin's Prelude in C minor).
Oh, that's fine, I just thought I'd be interesting to see.
There's no pressure to do it, though.

Also: You messaged Asciotes about the band idea, but he hasn't been on much lately, so I'm not sure if he'll contribute or not. I'll ask him about it.

And I have tried recording some videos of me playing a few songs, but I can't find an angle that only shows my hands, and has no reflection in the piano... So I'm sorry, maybe some other time...

Pity, I'm still very interested to see what you can do! Damn shiny pianos! I'm sure you'll figure it out eventually. Have you tried what I usually do, just set the camera up on the edge of the piano (I use blu-tack to keep it on... you might have to Google that because I'm not sure if that stuff is exclusive to Australia or not) which does only show my hands, although my piano isn't reflective so I can see why you might still have that problem.

Good luck! Hopefully you can work it out!

Remember the left hand thing? I tried it in this piece only to find with the deep bass notes that half of the time the camera was obscured by my hand! Haha!

This piece is Chopin's Prelude in C Minor, it's a dark piece consisting of almost nothing but chords, it's quite fun!

Hooray! I finally got my violin today!

http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=2839565&l=f83890f12f&id=608038441 if anyone is interested.

Now just to learn how to play the stupid thing. Does anyone have any tips when it comes to finger positions or anything like that? I could use a good tutorial.
When you learn to play that thing I have a few songs to suggest that might be good, maybe too difficult though.

Exactly like you. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqnf_HrLJXM]
Limehouse Blues [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=En7EGSxUbTM]
La Mer [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgNQ4FR6Me8&feature=PlayList&p=E3E98C0EDF69387B&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=8]
Vajra [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0UMQeLd_UU]

All great violin songs.

I shall leave now as I have no musical talent. :/

Thanks for the suggestions! It might be a little while, I've only had the thing for a few days and it's screeching all over the place.

Appreciation of music is a good talent to have, even if you can't play if you enjoy nice songs that in itself is something to be proud of.

You are most welcome.

I guess appreciation is a sort of talent, although to most people my form of appreciation comes off as muscial elitism, I'm okay with that though. :)

And I just remembered another song, this one may be slightly easier than the others.

Welcome to Rapture [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEFIZh_Zscc]

^That is BioShock's main theme.

Ohh! Haunting! Nice.

The first piece I'm learning on the violin is this piece, Elgar's Nimrod from Enigma Variations. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUgoBb8m1eE]. It's a little slower than those other pieces which makes it a bit easier for a learner!

Yes, that would be a hard piece to film the left hand...
I love chords. And the really, really low notes.

I would've showed you my wonderful rendition of The Black Pearl (the song they play in Pirates of the Caribbean when the Black Pearl shows up... in the first movie, at least) or Imagine (you know, the song by John Lennon).
Darn shiny pianos.
I'll have to try when it's actually daylight, and possibly on a cloudy day.
You wouldn't believe how much thought this takes!

Ummm.. this might sound like a silly suggestion, but you could tape paper or something over the front of your piano to prevent the reflection off it...

You're really set on me doing this, aren't you?
I'll see what I can do.
The tape might not be the best for the piano, though. Oh, and blu-tack isn't exclusive to Australia.
Just keep in mind that if I manage to get a decent video with no reflection, I'll still have to possibly get a youtube account.
As I've said, we'll see.
It's currently two AM, so I won't be able to try anything for quite a while, though.

Blu-tack isn't exclusive to Aus? Damn! I thought we were awesome like that! Haha! Sorry, now it seems like I'm being pushy about it or something! I just enjoy hearing people who have had so much more experience and are much better players than myself play, it gives me something to work towards personally.

Actually i'll need you to play the root chords during the solo, once per chord change. This'll help keep the song intact whilst the guitars to their thang...

It's quite a simple song, i'm sure you'll get the hang of it. Besides if something's not working, I can edit out that particular part. So you can do as much as you like, maybe even improvise a little... So long as you're playing along to the music (on your headphones) I can use your parts anywhere...
I had a bit of a practice today, it's coming along alright. It's still not quite ready to be broadcast as part of a song but it's not too bad. How are the other parts of the song coming along?

Yay, more acoustics!

Oh, about Wish You Were Here. Well, maybe I'll get that up eventually. I'm pretty bad about taking requests though. But, for the time being, here's a really cool Frampton tune!

Cool, maybe have a chat to ravens_nest and see what's going on. I'm not too sure about whats happening, all I know is I'm playing my own little piano bit.

Haha, I know requests is asking a lot! Don't worry about it if you can't do it!

... I don't even know what that genre is...
That'd be because I invented it. It's a mixture of jazz and black metal, without bothering to pretend that people can actually understand the lyrics. And every so often saying something coherent.
That sounds absolutely amazing.
I'd love to bust some sax out on that.

I asked Pireth to say no for me because I'm not as active on the escapist anymore, but seeing that she hasn't yet I'm going to post before she does because I changed my mind. If that little bit made sense.

yeah I'm in for it, in other words.

I've improved on guitar since those vids and I've got an electric now so I'd be more than happy to help out provided I have enough free time and can get this done.

If you guys have more info, pm me :D

I've added you to the list, but at the moment it's the sort of thing where if you want something to get done you have to organise it yourself. Ravens taken the initiative with Another Brick in the Wall and although I haven't heard from him in a few days, it seems to be going along alright, so that's the best bit of advice I can give. If you really like a song and want to do it, say so and ask others to help.

Yo,

Sorry took so long to reply. I'm waiting on everyone's pieces to trickle in, so in terms of progress, well, there isn't any yet but I am hopeful :)

Looking forward to hearing your parts though.

Hey, sorry I'm taking so long. I live in two different houses and spend half the days of my fortnights at each. So when I have my electronic drumkit at my dad's house...

Anyway, I've recorded the piece now, but the file is so big it won't let me email it to you (whoever said .wav files save on space was lying. They offer best quality for most disk space. This recording is 3:15 and takes up 16 MB, six more than my email will allow to send in an attachment). So currently, it's on a music hosting site I've found, and it seems quite legitimate. Here's the link [http://www.supload.com/sound_confirm.php?get=1120465966.wav]. I've tried it myself and it seems to work. Sorry about the static on the recording, though, my connectors aren't as good a quality as they could be.

Oh, whilst I'm here.

Upon playing it through a few times, the thing I was worried about with the solo has happened, I just can't keep up with my current level of skill. I might be able to supply the bass notes for that section, but the treble notes are just too quick sorry. Apart from that it is fine... hopefully get a recording out in the next few days. I've been busy with work, we've just opened a new store and I've been doing 32-40 hours a week, yikes!
