I woke up this morning and saw my morning paper. On the cover was The Expendables and it only had 1 1/2 star! This movie I thought was to be pure gold and I was so looking forward to seeing it. Question now is, if I read a bad review is this movie still worth seeing?
O and the 1/2 a star is a slap across the face. Thats worse then not having the star at all. Its like saying you could have been but you weren't. Funny those were almost the exact last words my x girlfriend said to me.
screw any reviews, make you own decisions. ... and those are some harsh last words

It's an action movie, have you really ever seen a pure action movie with really good writing?

Pulp Fiction?
Terminator 1 and 2?
Predator?
Inglorious Basterds?

OT: Yea, I can't see myself seeing this sober. Maybe a little happy sauce will make me look upon it more favorably.

Having looked at some of the negative reviews, many of which are far harsher than the film warrents, I've come to the conclusion that many reviewers were expecting Stallone to be Clint Eastwood. By which I mean they expected him to subvert or deconstruct or at least homage his typicalaction films from the 80's, whereas what he's actualy done is gone out and created a straight up 80's action film.

No suprise that it sucked. Most movies that are crammed with super stars of a genere tend to be crap. Too many chefs spoil the soup indeed.

Most of you tykes arent used to these old style action shoot-em-up movies. I am sure this will be a fine old school movie, but always on video at home! I own a ton of DVD/Blu Rays in the genre but I dont think I ever went to see one in the theaters

LOL.. Terminator and Predator has good writing?? no way, Terminator has one of the worst stories ever.. it has the Future happening before the Past. Connor sends back his pal to save his mom from the Terminator, but his pal fucks his mom and that baby IS John Connor - shit cant work that way.

I'm still seeing it with my husband.

We aren't going to see "plot" or "dialogue" or "acting".

We're going to see it to /popcorn and feed our inner need for gratuitous violence and mindless action.

I never intended on seeing the movie in the 1st place. After finding out the movie wasn't very good; my opinion of it hasn't really changed.

I know it'll suck, but meh. I want to see Arnie, Bruce, Bruce, Jason, Mickey etc. just blowing stuff up and doing outright ridiculous things.

I expect 70% of the scenes to involve an explosion.

I'd still see it since its got most of the old and aging action heroes put together in a film plus it has explosions and gore so yeah I'll still see it even if it sucks big fat juicy donkey bollocks.

Were you expecting some epic drama that would be deemed the movie of the year?
If the advertisers describe a movie as a 'mangasm' you're right to jump to the conclusion that it'll have the depth of a glass of water, and will consist of nothing but gunfights fistfights and explosions.
