I got into the Tales of series last year. Symphonia is a masterpiece in my opinion and I'm playing through Tales of Vesperia now.

Not in any particular order:

Final Fantasy III, IV, VI, VII, IX, X and X-2, also XII. (I want to play all of the Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy games like none other!)
The World Ends with You.
Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross.
Persona 3, Persona 4
Kingdom Hearts, and Kingdom Hearts 2
Star Ocean, Star Ocean 2, Star Ocean Till the End of Time.
Suikoden 1, 2, 3, and 5 (sadly I wasn't too fond of 4, although I wanted to like it!)
Tales of Symphonia, and Tales of the Abyss. I WANT to play Vesperia quite badly!

Yeah, I'm a huge JRPG nerd. ^^

Umm... Well, Persona 4 is probably the latest JRPG that I loved. In fact, it bumped its way to my #1. To hell with Final Fantasy.
But I actually think that JRPGs are finally making a comeback after that boring, dry streak of 2001 - 2006.

Last one I played? I gave an abortive go at playing Final Fantasy IX again, and couldn't bring myself to care enough. It seems to be hit or miss with me whether I care enough about the characters to slog through a game until it becomes so epic that I simply have to keep playing. Same thing happened with Tales of The Abyss; I gave up when the characters started boring me (and because you can't fast-forward through the little dialogue screens without skipping them entirely. I read faster than that, jerks).

Last game I enjoyed was Persona 3. I got to the end and felt legitimately bad. It's one of the few times I've really cared about my mute protagonist. Maybe it was the dozens of hours I spent making his relationships, but the ending made me feel like I should be sitting Shiva, black curtains over the windows.

Currently playing Last Remnant and loving it. A JRPG with an interesting setting, a proper villain and a fresh combat system. Yeah, the protagonist is a moron, but it's easy to ignore him :p
Most of the time the protagoist in JRPGs are morons :)

I think the last JRPG I played was Odin Sphere back last years march perhaps, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Final Fantasy 8, hoping 13 will be another rise to form, but I doubt it

Does Super Paper Mario count? It's half a RPG and made in Japan.

The last RPG I played was Final Fantasy IV for the DS, which I kinda liked but is pretty old-fashioned by today's standards. I'm currently waiting for Chrono Trigger which I ordered online (and is taking a damn long time) and I suspect it won't disappoint.

The golden sun series, simply the best put together jrpg I've ever played
the battles looked good, the summons looked good, it had a simple, but possibly very deep class and summon system
It was just well made, as compared to many games that are just
well
.. Poorly done
I also enjoyed Chrono Trigger not that long ago, but I still love good ol golden sun more

Heh, been playing Golden Sun through again since reading this thread. It still outshines just about every JRPG I can think of.
Really hope they make Golden Sun 3 though.

The Last Remnant. They made a battle system that made controlling 30 units in turns seem fast paced. And some of it is quite challenging.

The World Ends With You was the last JRPG I played as well. The story was great, the gameplay was fun, and the characters were incredibly deep, something which I don't normally see J-Games in general.

I have dipped in and out of various old Final Fantasies (pre-FF6), but usually got bored so I won't be counting those.

So what's the last great Jrpg you played?

In my expereience, Jrpg's have always been hit or miss for me, atm I'm severely disappointed with the selection on home consoles because as I'm not into the whole concept of generic gameplay.Over 2008 I felt that the best Jrpg's available were not available on home consoles but on handhelds.

The last Jrpg that I felt was a great experience was "The World Ends with You", it had everything: an innovative battle system, a great plotline, collectables, interesting characters, cool powers, incredible soundtrack.

I'm willing to try out the upcoming Jrpg's that come out but tbh I won't be holding my breath for a new and interesting Jrpg experience.
I played one JRPGs only liked it for 30 min before leaving it (It was a pc one but i forgot it's name)

after that i steered clear from them and till this day i have a disgust for JRPGs
