The entire storyline of Prince Arthas.

The most emotional part of it was definately just yesterday as seen in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIYTTOI35VU&fmt=8

After almost Ten years, he is finally defeated, and Arthas set free.
Christ...It happened

wow, stopped playing WoW 3 years ago and I didn't think it would happen

I know. I didn't believe it. It's cool to see it happen though. Say what you want about Blizzard, but they know how to make a Storyline.

When Uncle Paulie shoots Jenny, while The Darkness restrains you, and forces you to watch. A lot of games try to motivate you to feel for a character, and make you want to exact revenge on the main badguy, and fall pretty fall short of that goal, doing little more than setting up a basic plot wherein the big badguy deserves to die, because he did something bad. This results mostly in "well, guess it's my job to kill that guy, so the guy I'm playing as will feel better, and I get to kill some assholes along the way".

This moment, however, made me feel personally wronged, and as such, killing that bastard at the end of the game felt ridiculously good.
It ties the whole ultimate fate of sucummbing to the darkness that more damning too. Of course there's no choice, but at the time I wasn't even aware, i mean how could i not kill him? The darkness was getting more and more powerful, so I knew what was coming but damned if I was going to let him live. So yeah, great ending...

Anything from Mass Effect is bound to make me burst into tears. That game is just sex, damnit.

I felt sick as hell and this instantly made me feel better.

OT :

Mona's death in the regular ending. Max had been through so much shit, he deserved at least one good thing in his life. That was blown away by a bullet, again. When he crawled back to her, I saw a completely broken man. I have never felt so sorry for a game character.
Thank you, Remedy, for allowing me to drown myself in denial and hope for a good ending after completing the game on DOA difficulty.

When Sheperd burns you alive. The look on his face, the cold, ruthless stare, the heartless triumph in his eyes...Fascinating.

Also, every single minute of Mass Effect 2.

Oh yes, that level in Elite Beat Agents completely blindsided me: a genuinely emotional moment in a game of wacky awesomeness. Dang, that was awesome.

But I'd have to say the most emotional moment in gaming for me was when...

... Aerith was killed by Sephiroth. But not just that scene: the boss fight afterwards. Usually for a fight against part of Jenova, that awesome Jenova theme would start up and get us all pumped and intense for the epic battle. But not this time. Aerith's theme was playing throughout the entire death scene, and when Sephiroth accused Cloud of pretending to care and left the Jenova piece to battle, the theme kept playing. I didn't fight that boss to proceed, I didn't fight it because it was awesome, and I didn't fight it because I was pumped: I fought it because I was sad, and angry. I fought it for her. Amazing moment.

It is moments like this one that make me pity JRPG haters... they will never experience this. Sad, really. Just sad.

Gaz getting shot in the face made me shed manly S.A.S tears, which resulted in heavy swiss-cheesing of Zakhaev.

that or Shepard burning you and Ghost alive (well, at least you alive). the worst part was that he was so fucking cold about it. i was happy to dart-board his face.

Metal Gear Solid 1, Sniper Wolf. Not just the sadness, but the real emotional tug of her backstory and character.

Halo. Finishing it gave me a real sense of completion (Halo 3 that is)

Mass Effect. I really did get attached to the characters, all the way through the story. My favourites of course being Tali, Garrus, Chakwas, but the entire world they built really sucked me in emotionally.

Silent Hill 2. I know it's hackneyed, but I really do have it in my 'most emotionally rending' list. It's a massive mindfucking heart pounding tale, not just an interactive story, an actual tale.

The Final Battle of Mother 3, it really throws things into perspective.
Not to mention the exquisitely done opening sequence, leading you on, thinking that it's gonna be a happy-go-lucky and quirky game about a kid who's a bit of a bumble, and then taking that whole image and smashing it with a strip of torn dress, two twins shivering after being half-drowned, their in-shock mumbling about how they were powerless and couldn't help her...Well played out emotion all the way through.

I second that.
It's possibly the greatest final boss battle. Ever.

No objections. Now go back to the woods, shoo!
Man I love that game. What evokes the most emotion is that hardly anyone in the west has played it.
Oh, we've played it. THe legions of Avid Mother fans are a testament to that. I wish copyright laws weren't such a butt to deal with over here.

But yeah, The entirety of Mother 3 is the most emotional video game moment ever. I laughed, and I cried.
The final battle and the end of Chapter 1 were sad, but what really got to me was Chapter 6.
When I watched it for the first time, I was bawling like a newborn baby. Then I watched it again. And I cried again. I felt sad in the way only a caretaker can.

Having to choose between (Mass Effect spoiler)...
...sending Williams or Alenko to their deaths. That was a hard one.

Gotta go with the death of Heather's father, Harry Mason, in Silent Hill 3. Hot damn that was a sad scene; and so terrifying too! After all that freakish trouble Heather went through to get home, all she gets is the death of her dad. So messed up!

I was surprised at how Mass Effect series has gotten me to be more emotional about some of the decisions I make, based on if characters die or when some sort of watershed occurs. Its really good storytelling from BioWare- as we have come to expect

Seriously though, probably in HL2:EP2 when you have to hold off the Ant lion waves. Do that on Hard.

Emotions start flaring, and then when you run out of ammo and resort to crowbar.

Intense.
Yeah! And then the Vortigaunts come and you get to kick ass for a few beautiful minutes.

THe Strider level on Hard was pretty damn tough as well. Don't think I've ever quicksaved/quickloaded so often.
