Also, I've had the Ikaruga boss music stuck in my head for about a week. Does that make it a particularly memorable soundtrack? It was my own fault really, I was wondering "If I was a final boss, what would my theme music be?"

Morrowind or Oblivion but mostly Morrowind.

Few games I've played have been able to suck me in based on soundtrack alone, but the music just sets the stage so well in those games, its hard not to feel like its part of the natural world of the game.

Mass Effect gets an honorable mention.

For me, Pokemon has a really memorable soundtrack, but more recently, there's the soundtrack of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game that sticks to my head

Eufloria's soundtrack was beautifully suitable:

When Jose Gonzalez's Far Away starts play in Red Dead Redemption, I think it is my most memorable moment ever in a videogame:

I've also never managed to get the Morrowind/Oblivion theme tune out of my head. I s'pose that makes it pretty memorable in its own way.

Edit:

Assassin's Creed also deserves an honorable mention

this is a topic that's very close to my heart. video game soundtracks aren't appreciated enough in my opinion. there's so many memorable soundtracks such as any final fantasy game with nobuo uematsu doing the music, valkyria chronicles, soul calibur, eternal sonata, god of war i could go on. but one track which stands out for me in particular is night of fate from kingdom hearts by Yoko Shimomura. check this beast out

More then anything, the Halo theme song. Everyone recognizes it. You don't even have of played the game, and you know its Halo.

Best video game song ever... Cohen's Masterpiece from Bioshock. It was by far my most memorable instance ever playing a video game. You have to play the game and listen to the song (Sorry, I don't know how to post links).

There's a reason anyone who hears this instantly remembers the game it's from:

But in all seriousness and I'm not exactly sure why but this:

I'm gonna do the cop out answer ans say Super Smash Bros, because it combines a whole bunch of memorable soundtracks. Other than that, Ocarina of Time, just because I'm so Nostalgic about that game even the music makes me happy.

Half Life two + the episodes. When ever I play a different FPS, I turn off the native music and start playing HL2. It sounds surprisingly good on Oblivion and FO3, btw.

Well maybe this will help other people too so I'll post it here rather than PM'ing you.

First get you're you tube link e.g:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIq09rILxzQ

Then you take the part after the equals : RIq09rILxzQ

Then you basically just type [ youtube=RIq09rILxzQ ] <--- without the spaces (yes the square brackets are necessary}

Optional:

If you want to be nice and minimize the amount of stuff people have to load on the page, put it in a spoiler by typing

[ spoiler ] your youtube link and [ /spoiler ] to close it. (again without the spaces and with the square brackets)

And while I'm here I might as well point out that you can give your spoiler boxes titles by doing this:

[ spoiler=insert title here ]

GTA4 had a great soundtrack.

Not to mention all the music on the radio. Vagabond by The Greenskeepers is still stuck in my head.
