Doctor with a gun? Has that ever happened before?
Doesn't neccessarily mean he's going to kill anyone with it, he could be shooting a control panel/window/airlock/lever etc..
This is true, but i'm sure he can use the sonic screwdriver to do all those things, gun just seems do, un-Doctorish.

Loved it. I was one of the (sadly few) people who were prepared to give Matt Smith a chance when he was announced as the new Doctor. So many 'fans' of the series wouldn't give him a chance and were complaining that he was 'too young'. My view? Matt Smith has basically taken everything that David Tennant brought to the role, and kept that personality, while adding his own, more quirky, twist to it. Steven Moffat is a great choice to replace Russel T. Davies, he proved his skills as producer and writer with some of my favourite episodes episodes (most notably Blink), and from the looks of it he will be even better than Davies (and that's no mean feat as Davies was a brilliant and visionary executive producer for the show). Matt Smith was a great choice, too. I read somewhere that he actually sat down with Tennant and the two of them discussed the role, and everything about it, from the character to the public perception of the show, to the tiniest details about the Doctor. And that really shows. Smith has done a great job of bringing that to the fore while still creating a unique personality with his own signature twist, and the best of the Doctor is kept throughout. If the rest of Series 5 is going to be like this, then we have nothing to worry about :D.

Oh, and as for the new companion, Amelia 'Amy' Pond? When she appeared I was reminded of a Scottish version of Rose Tyler, if Rose had been raised in a village instead of London. Amy is a great companion, and I really think she's going to add a great dynamic to the character of the Doctor, as well as bringing her own talents to the role. And it doesn't hurt that Karen Gillan, who plays her, is pretty attractive too. As Steven Moffat said, she's "funny, talented, attractive... basically, she's Scottish" :D.

I have been avoiding those digital transmissions until things cool down for my friend.

I'll just have to sulk in my wrong time zone.

Well we've already seen him bust one sonic screwdriver, and Matt Smith has admitted to carrying the sonic screwdriver with him wherever he goes when not filming.......and he's broken four of them!

Something tells me he'll bust more this series!

I agree, he shouldn't be shooting, never, it seems very undoctorish.
Some of the lines he said made me laugh, "get yourself a girlfriend" for example.
I'm looking forwards to more episodes with this couple, should be entertaining.

Lots of times. You've probably just had too much Tennant shoved down your throat.

Hm, never seen him with a gun before, not shooting anyway, not seen the old ones though, only since the last 3 ones.

Matt Smith was OK as the Doctor, and the new assistant was decent enough. Although I don't think the episode was very good, I don't know about anyone else but I could see most of the plot coming from a mile away and it just wasn't very gripping. Here's hoping the future episodes are better.

He's good, but sounds like David Tennant who's a little less anxious. If you only listened to him you would have thought it was Doctor Number 10 with a cold. New screwdriver, TARDIS will take some getting used to, and the assistant looks to be worthwhile-ish. But the new music is faaaar from good. Sounds like they let a drunken dog onto a mixing deck of something made by Basshunter.

Calumon: You should delete your internet history too Jack! :p

To be honest I found the Doctor and his new assistant unbelievably insipid and devoid of personality and was pretty bored by the episode. It really did not work for me but, to be honest, the last few "feature length" Tennant episodes fell pretty flat as well. And the week long Torchwood sucked as well. Feels a bit as if the Beeb has lost its way again with Sci Fi.

I think the new Doctor looks like a complete dick in every way imaginable, and the advertisements i see for the new series are so cheesy and badly written it made me want to put my head through a concrete wall.

Not that i've ever been a massive fan, Tennant was at least watchable.

They've succeeded in turning Doctor Who into a children's show. Don't get me wrong, it's always been one for a younger audience, but Eccleston's era had some real gloom to it that I think really made the show. Tennant had none of that, this guy's probably going to have even less.

I'll probably carry on watching though. While I don't think this guy will hold a candle to Eccleston, I'm almost certain he'll be better than Tennant, I couldn't stand him, he tried to pull off humourous and zany and couldn't, this guy can from what I've seen.

Since I know there will be none of that gloom I so sorely liked in the show, I'll settle for humour, as long as it's done better than Tennant.

Lucky Brits. Us Americans have to wait for April 17th before the first of the new Doctor Who episodes air on BBC America. As such I'm avoiding reading pratically any of this forum so that I don't learn anything yet.
From what I've seen I don't know what I think of the new Doctor. I saw a commercial for it yesterday and I saw the final episode of last season, but that's about all I know so far. The new Doctor doesn't seem that bad to me, for now. I'll have to reserve my judgement until 4/17.

Actually, it doesn't. But I didn't think to try it until you mentioned it. When I click on the "Watch this Episode link" it says, "Not available in your area."

Good idea though, but apparently BBC is aware of that work around.
