Does anyone else think this looks a little bit like Apple's OS X?

EDIT: Or iTunes even.

I've been waiting to bust out the facepalm.jpg for a while. Thank you.

Nope, still think it most closely resembles Media Center. Has a vertical main menu which opens a horizontal-scrolling list of panels. Selecting one of the panels takes you to the main interface for that section.

In function it's similar to Sony's XMB, though on a different axis. The good thing about these interfaces is that they're extremely configurable - categories and panels can be easily added and removed (even dynamically) without mucking up the rest of the interface. And they work quite well.

The Zune also uses a similar interface, though modified to fit a smaller, portable screen. It seems to be the new standard in the Microsoft entertainment products division, so I'm actually not too surprised to see it come to the 360.

I really don't know about this. think t is just another attempt for the xbox to try and reach out to the younger population by making it brighter and more colourful. I will be happy though as long as I get to keep my gamerpic as Dante. If not I want full refunds on all the themes and gamerpics I have purchased. Wait I am on to something here. With the new dashboard the themes I have bought will be useless and so will I get my money or points back? Time to pray I guess.

Well, as a Wii owner, I find it slightly funny that Microsoft would go with a more casual layout with Mii-esque avatars and a very kid-friendly look after all the shit they have given Nintendo about Wii owners "Graduating to the 360" and such. I guess MS saw the light, or excuse me, cash, that the casual market brings in.

And as a 360 owner I find it hard to get too riled up about. It isn't the prettiest interface out there, and the avatars being shoved in your face is distasteful, but it is acceptable. I'm a little concerned that I'll have wasted a bunch of cash on themes and gamer pictures, and that there won't be a option to do a half integration of the update, or no update at all. But that is the problem with digital distribution. What you buy isn't tangible, so you have to be afraid of losing it.

All consoles ripped off the Xbox Marketplace and nobody said anything about it. PS3 was called Wi60 when it came out.

There's is something weird about avatar/Mii:
M$ creates avatars for the 360 as a player image in a console.
One year later Nintendo improves the idea (or not, it depends) and creates Miis as a player image.
Now M$ creates the "XMiis" (optional).
For a strange reason M$ is the only console who rippes off ideas from other consoles.

Anyway, what it's really important here is the full dashboard. The design is ok and the new features are great (Netflix, chatroom for 8 players when you can share data o jump to different games, more resolutions for PC screen, Massive online contests with real prizes, full acces to the Marketplace on internet, built in dashborad witch makes it faster,...)

I wonder how long it will take Nintendo and Sony to rip it off.

It does look a bit weird, but I'll give it a chance personally before judging it.

I think it's going to be exactly the same , but with the new Community blade. Which will be the only blade that has those things.

You spent money on themes and gamerpics?

Why bother when you can buy arcade games instead?

this is a waste, I was really hoping for something that, you know, was something the gamers would appreciate, but no, now I have to take off my cool avatar. Did you hear what he said? He said that we can make our avatar have fashions based off the seasons latest clothes.

-" I just kicked your ass in halo"
-"oh ya, well your avatar is out of style."
-"OH SNAP"

although the netflix thing and watching movies with friends could be cool

I bet those prizes are going to suck, like new clothes for your avatar, or something that wont cost Microsoft anything.
