OMFG---high end consumable sees a drop in sales during a world wide recession!!!?! Must grab a pen and paper, write this down, and file it under "Bloody Inevitable."
the PS3 never at any point caught up with the Wii, 360 or PS2.

drop in sales- inevitable, new console being outsold by old console-pathetic.

It would be hilarious if they just start to make more games for the PS2 now instead of the PS3.

I didn't think this sort of thing was possible but I guess if you make an even more horrible attempt at backwards compatibility then the 360 did then thats what you get. I mean the 360 backwards compatibility sucks something awful but at least they tried unlike the PS3 that just decided that making their new system backwards compatibile with one of the greatet consoles of all time was a "bad idea".

I'm no fanboy but cmon Sony your better than that. I almost bought a PS3 too but now I just can't justify the expense. The Wii and 360 is plenty for me now.
My PS3 has full BC.

:\

EDIT: Actually I think this is all I have to say right now, it seems like people think this is the only sales data of the PS3 or something.

Well... I'm actually buying a PS3 this weekend to replace my dead 360 and I would never have considered that a month ago so.. they're obviously changing something.

Eh, I have a feeling when God Of War 3 comes out the PS3 will have alot more sales, >.> or they can just lower the damn price.

And my fanboy senses were dead on.
Actually, no. I'm not an Xbox Fanboy.

I had a PS2 last generation and played it so often it died a horrible death from exhaustion.

I'm not really a fanboy of any particular thing, used to be a Warcraft fanboy until they destroyed the story.

Lose it to what? If the Ps3 goes, then that means inFAMOUS goes, as its the only console that can run it. Same with pretty much every Ps3 exclusive.
I don't have to be reasonable or use logic damn it. What I have to do is gather a large crowd and shamble towords the development offices that are making InFamous and gnaw on the door until they cave and make it for the 360.

Oh, PS3, you and your badly marketed existence. Sony could have done so much for itself, but they chose instead to mess everything up...

I agree that kinda is a fail but the PS3 is still young enough to make a come back.
Sony recouping their total losses for the past two years is impossible at this point.

So what else is new? I love how IGN was pretentious enough to claim the PS3 on it's way to domination because of a two month sale increase in Japan, fueled by the FF13 demo. It's becoming more apparent that Sony is getting desperate by releasing the floodgates on their exclusives to justify their ridiculous price. I own one already, and I still realize that has to be the worst plan ever in this current economic state. They need to seriously get it together and drop the price before they go any further into the red. a 1 billion dollar profit loss is not an easy thing to absorb for any company even Sony. At this point the more stubborn consumers are concerned with their console surviving, no one is going to pay for something that possibly will not survive the long haul. Anyone else seeing the similarities Sony is showing with Sega?

I bought a PS3, one with backwards compatibility.

The problem was, the PS3 had only a very small handful of titles that I wanted, and they were all so short it didn't justify buying the system.
I wouldn't consider buying the system a second time until they release some better games. I don't care about the graphics this system is putting out nearly as much as I care about how interesting a game looks, how fun the game actually is, the amount of game play available, and how the challenges progress throughout said game play.
Those are just my main concerns with a game, there is so much more than that, and at the very bottom of the list, is graphics.

I'm hearing alot of people on this thread say they want the PS3 to lose it's exclusives.

Whatever happened to it not having good exclusives anyway? You fanboys are so hypocritical.

Why? Wasn't one God Of War enough? I liked the First but the second one was the same exact game. We didn't need two, much less three.

InFamous is as good as it gets. What else does it have, seriously?

God of War 3 (Recycled Game)

Metal Gear Solid 4 (Boring game, bad story. For the record I didn't play the first two Metal Gear Solids, but I played the third one and the story was.. decent, but the game was terrible.)

Final Fantasy (Overall atrocious)

Killzone 2 (Hell, I remember that the original Killzone on my PS2 was basicly a Sci-Fi mish-mash of the Iraq War and WW2. I remember this city that eerily reminded me of Baghdad and another mission set with pillboxes and trenches with barbed wire that reminded me of D-Day. There wasn't a story I could remember, and the game felt clunky and mishandled. )

Besides InFamous the playstation 3 doesn't have a strong catalog.

As I said, I had a PS2 last time around, this console generation I waited, I did my research on what games were coming out for what console. A big monetary investment like this isn't something i'm going to do based solely on brand loyalty. Playstation 3 didn't really impress me at all. It came down to Wii and 360 and 360 held the stronger catalog of games.

Playstation 3 is failing because its always sold on the promise of good things to come. Well we WILL have this and we WILL have that, but for now amuse yourself. The 360, while having a broader catalog of games, still doesn't have the mass appeal that the Wii does. Not only appealing to teenage girls, but soccer moms, children, and those poor misguided souls who hold hope that Metroid, Legend of Zelda, and Mario will justify a purchase of an entire gaming console. I will agree that the Playstation 2 was the better console from the last console generation but what the fuck happened to all of the good games I remember?

I do want to get a PS3 but one with backwards compatibility as well, do they still make those type's or not? Kinda sucks that you lost to your last model and not from a rival company. Now if you'll excuse me I gotta man my action station during this flame war.

What is your point? The Xbox and Playstation have virtually identical game catalogs except for the odd exclusives.

Every argument you just brought up could be said about any game ever made, really there is no point in even indulging into this kind of comparative thinking.

How do you even know that InFamous is any good, have you spent any serious time playing it yet?

I think it's because they cut the damn backwards compatibility. No one wants to buy a new PS3 anymore, everyone wants to find a backwards compatible one off ebay or in a used game store. Taking it out did more hurt than it did help in my opinion. They took it out to encourage people to buy current gen games, but if you ask me it backfired.
A big part of the reason I bought a PS2 was because it allowed me to keep playing my PS1 games while still being able to have, at the time, current gen games. The PS3 fails to do this, and costs a frakkin' arm and a leg, so I'm in no rush to get one. Maybe if it was radioactive and would turn me into an X-man or something.
