Seems like a lot of people agree on the first time he/she stepped out of into in .

The first time i stepped out of the prison ship into the jungles of Na-Pali, in Unreal 1.

My favourite moment has to be at the ending of Mother 3 (SPOILERZ) when it it turns out that the Masked Man is your twin brother so you cannot attack him (Lucas will refuse to attack, he'll only heal himself), then the ghost of your Mother comes along and tries to coax Claus (the twin brother) to stop fighting. In the end he kills himself by shooting lightning at you which he knows will be reflected back at him by the Franklin Badge. It was really touching. Also the ending to Portal and Half-Life 2, seriously, the G-Man's speeches are awesome in a creepy way.

i've honestly got to say any time your are going to fight Ganondorf at the top of a castle. just the tun that plays on the way up, ya know. slightly erie yet soothing and builds the tension to the final climactic fight because as you climb the stairway it get louder and louder and you start thinking. "Is this a good idea. I know i have the almighty sword that will kill him, but what if..." and as you climb more and more floods your head. then you fight him and all these thoughts rush through your head as he is throwing balls of energy and breaking the floor below you making the fight a frantic mind fuck which afterwards you feel so relived when you beat him then there is a short cutscene and then another battle ensues after you have let your guard down then after that fight it's done. no more Ganon(well until the next game) and you feel so great, but no matter how many times you try it over and over again it will never be half as good as the first time because you know what will happen.

also riding a Cocobo in FF9. ya gotta love that happy lil tune =D

I'm tied between the bittersweet ending of Planescape: Torment, and the moment where the group brings Zidane from the brink of apathy and despair in Final Fantasy IX.

I disagree. I think the best part of any *thing* ever, regardless of medium, is every single Monster Hunter boss fight.
Second that.

Though given the Boss Rush nature of the game why not just say most of Monster Hunter?

This bit was amazing way back in 2000.... also I love in FFX when you finally catch up to yunalesca and Tidus lunges to attack her only for the shade or Auron in the past to do the same move and get blasted backwards

The opening cinematic in Bioshock because it essentially created this fantastic universe of infinite possibilities in an instant.
Though the game was progressively linear.
Disappointingly I never got to kill that whale.

Finding Andrew Ryan in BioShock. The part with the 9 iron.
This! and the revelation of the three words that came along with that scene. Completely blew my mind.

Ending of Conkers Bad Fur Day. It broke the 4th wall and made fun of glitches in games... CLASSIC!

The scene where it shows you what really happened at the attack on the Sun Palace in Suikoden V. I was amazed the first time I saw it and I must have seen it close to 15 times and I still like it just as much.

I'll agree with M.W. 1, as it's one of the largest fears of the past 60 years realized, and in one way, experienced. The saving of all those people for nothing intensifies the situation.

I also found the MegaTown Nuke event in Fallout 3 equally charged with emotion (probably why they removed it from the Japanese version, if I recall correctly).

In that, the Nuclear Event watched at ("whatever Towers--Tenpenny?") akin to a person watching a sports show--humanity at it's lowest.

Both were quite shocking, and thus memorable.

As far as a "Personal Best," I think a glitch in Castlevania 2: Simons Quest was the best single moment. I walked an invisible staircase and was able to "rapid travel" through almost the entire map at the top of the screen, until a spider hit me with a web. That was 22-23 years ago, if that means anything.

Well there was the time when I was playing Spider-man: Web of Shadows, where I accidentally web striked a passing car causing it to explode and then swung in and caught the driver of said car out of mid-air. So it was like "Thank God I saved you, from uh... me."
I don't know how awesome that was, but it was fucking funny.

Killing the monster in the Monster Hunter games. The trumpets sound and the culmination of hours of preparation and an hour of deadly single combat makes you feel epic. Especially when realize that all you are is a regular person with a good diet, great physical shape, and a network of friends to make stuff for you.
