"Oh, but naturally," Katie chipped in, moving to stand next to Jason. "I assume Leland won't be joining us? Even with medical assistance, super-based or otherwise, I'd think he needs a fair amount of time to recuperate, maybe a few days at least. And that's time that he doesn't exactly have."

"He won't be joining us. He'll be comatose for a month or so as he recovers, and then I'll have to put him through therapy to rebuild his mind. That could potentially take years due to all the brain trauma and that fucker Omoi's mind control devices! There goes my space-cop job too," Camille replied.

Richard decided to chime in.

"I'm sorry, space cop? Why are you choosing now to go back to law enforcement instead of law breaking. I mean you set up an entire organization of villains only to leave it and go back to the other side of the line?"

"I thought Leland would have told you that that was what I had planned. Well I guess deep down I do just like helping out others, plus earth is a little boring truth be told. Exploring space sounds like a fun job; get to help people out, new exotic locations, and fighting off extremely powerful enemies to keep the universe from being destroyed. And there's a 'killing is okay' policy with them, so that's good too," she said before adding, "And the uniform is pretty snazzy."

"Besides I've become disinterested in all that Union stuff now. I'll help Major Crime rebuild it, and then I'll let him take up command."

"Two things. Are you a recruiter, because you made that sound damn nice? Secondly, good to know the whole Union thing was for shits and giggles from the sound of it." Richard replied.

"I'm not a recruiter, but I was recruited. I dunno if they'd take you though. Pretty sure they mainly go for those who can actually survive in space without any help," she replied, "You know I didn't make the Union just because, and I'm still proud of what I did with it."

"Yea I know, the reason you're leaving would paint that picture for anyone who doesn't know you that well though. Now being proud of it depends solely on how you look at it, then again, so is everything. Now about the surviving in space thing, enough upgrades and I could damn well pull that off. Don't underestimate what you can do with time, technology, and enough money and ability to do it with." Richard replied.

"Well try to contact them then. Until you get to that point though I think they'll say no," Camille replied.

Jason smiled as Camille conversed with Richard, putting a arm around Katie as she eased up to him. He was happy to know that powerful, veteran supers were going to help defeat the upcoming oppressors. His mind began to wander, thinking about all the people that'll participate in this war. Eventually his mind began to drift into stranger tides as he began to think about issues that could force the war to take a turn for the worst (for the heroes at least).

"Ummm...Mrs Claidt? Would Sykes happen to know of any...outside forces? Ones that he weren't already commanding?" He asked nervously.

"Oh I'm sure he knows a lot of outside forces. The only thing is that I'm not sure his huge ego would allow himself to rely on anyone else," Camille replied after thinking for a moment.

"Which actually would be good for us. Though if he sees it as using them, like he did with you and the Union Camille, he may work with other groups. Luckily him not killing us has earned us precious time, as I said before. We know the attack will be soon, and we can be ready for it." Richard replied.

Jason chuckled nervously. His face straightened. He began to tremble slightly.

"Ero...you think this Sykes guy might know about the Corps? Do you know how fucked we'd be? I mean, I got stabbed right through my armor-something I didn't think was possible, might I add-and to think, if there were more of them...and my family..." Jason thought frantically.

"Get a hold of yourself kid! Believe me, if they were getting ready for a fight, I would've known. Don't worry, nothing's gone off just yet..." Erebus tried his best to reassure his user, but in reality, he was just as nervous.

Katie had become a little uncomfortable with Jason's arm around her shoulders: the feeling was unexpected to her. Perhaps they had grown too distant from each other... that was probably it. She decided that it was that time... time to end it. She pulled some of her plants off her head, revealing her face, and turned to Jason. Not really sure how to say it - and not wanting to in front of everyone else - Katie asked, "Um... Jason, can I please talk to you for a moment? In private?"

Well, I've done it now, she thought. Now you just have to get the rest of the words right.

Jason's troubled mind was instantly calmed once Katie addressed him.

"Oh. Ok, sure." Jason answered as if he just wasn't experiencing a mental breakdown. Taking her by the hand, the two walked out of the infirmary and made their way towards the entrance.

"Wow, it's been awhile since we held hands. Maybe we should like, take a break or something after all of this." Jason realized as he looked down at the conjoined hands. Once they got outside, Jason looked around to see if anyone was around. Once the coast was clear, his eyes met hers.

"What'd you want to talk about Kate?" He asked with a smile.

Katie didn't answer for a minute or so, thinking over the right way to say what she needed to. Eventually she said, "Jase... I don't want to lie to you, but I don't want to hurt you either. Um... I think it would be better for both of us if... well, if we ended our relationship. Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike you - you've pulled me out of the fire more than a few times, and I'm grateful for that - but I feel that we've kinda been drifting apart recently."

She looked up at Jason, hoping that he wouldn't be angry, but she forced herself to continue speaking. "Our relationship didn't really mature emotionally. And you kinda have to admit that we started it before really getting to know one another. That was my fault more than yours. I was the one who threw myself at you, I should be the one to end it between us... You understand, right? We can still be friends, but nothing more?"

Jason's smile slowly faded as Katie broke it off. He stopped in his tracks, staring blankly ahead. He stayed like this momentarily before letting out a low chuckle.

"Your superhero name is Heartbreaker. How did I not see this coming?" He said, smirking before looking back at her. With a soft smile, he moved in close, giving her one last embrace, and one last kiss.

"Well, it was fun while it lasted. Maybe we would've had more time to ourselves if we weren't in this current predicament, but...we're heroes. We never have time to ourselves. It's gonna be real awkward seeing you around now though." He added before letting go. With that, Jason turned from her, making his way back into the Promenade. As he walked, he spun, walking backwards to face her.

"Maybe now you can go out with Leland. He seems to be a cool guy...that is, when he isn't trying to make us sing showtunes, or sending illusions of our siblings after us." He called out to her, baring a joking grin before stepping through the entrance.

Katie had simply let Jason kiss her; she didn't kiss back. He had taken it a completely different way from what she had expected. Surprisingly, he was fine with the break-up. And she had been agonising over it for a while... perhaps it had been the right thing to do.

Making a mental note to ask someone about changing her alias - the name "Heartbreaker" would bring up memories later on, and she disliked recalling things like that - she turned and walked the other way, heading for the gardens. The plants would provide comfort for her. Something Jason said about going out with Leland had unsettled Katie. She had no intention of dating him, she had made that clear back at the Lodge.

When she reached the base of the tree that was her home in the Promenade, Katie sat down and began removing her armour to bring it back up to strength. As she did so, a sense of freedom came over her, not just from the act of shedding the armour, but as a realisation of what she had done.

"Perhaps Masterson. Ethan is outside doing some work, you can fetch him whenever you want to work on your suit," Camille explained before leaving the room, going to check on the status of everything.

"That Lillian," Garrus started after Camille left, "Was my mother."

"Alright." Richard said as a simple reply. Lillian looked over the woman one last time before looking at Garrus.

"She seems to be an interesting woman to say the least. If I didn't know what she had been saying was true, 'psychotic' would be the next word that comes to mind. No offense of course, everything about my life seems that way. You think you're a normal secretary and then this idiot is my boss and suddenly I'm involved in things most people would find insane."

"Yea, well this idiot will need help getting his suit back in order." Richard shot back.

"What kind of secretary would I be if you didn't need my help?"

"Interesting is a good word for her," Garrus replied with a laugh, listening to Lillian and Richard.

"Is there any way I can help? I know you probably don't need any, but maybe I could still tag along and watch," he said.
