Good reworks Root...

I don't think they'll do Freeze or Ivy, too many bad memories of Batman&Robin.

But I'm now really intruigued at the prospect of a gritty/realistic Clayface with Mimcry abilities, if paired with another good villain that'd be pretty awesome.

Be nice, if they do keep with the 'completely, to the degree of boringness, scientificly viable villains'. To give us Riddler and Hush, or replace Hush with Clayface, Bane, or someone like that if Nolan's feeling more adventurous

INT. The Superbowl Stadium.

Thousands of people cheering. The Superbowl is underway.

Cut to

INT. Dressing Room

CLAYFACE sits and looks in the miror. Reflected back at him is the tired look of a man haunted by his memories.

SCOOTER(O.S.) : Ten minutes, Mr. Beckham!

CLAYFACE looks up at the door, sighs and looks back at the mirror. On the bench next to him is a newspaper, the headlines read "WAYNE INDUSTRIES PROVE LINK TO CANCER IN MAJOR PHARMACEUTICAL PRODUCTS."

CLAYFACE : Damn them.

He smashes his fist onto the paper. As he lifts it off, little lumps of flesh remain on the paper.

CLAYFACE : Why are they trying to ruin my life?

He reaches over for a hypodermic needle. There's a small amount of green liquid inside.

CLAYFACE : Keep calm now. Only five shots left.

Taking out a rubber tube, he wraps it around his arm and taps his wrist with his fingers.
Gently he moves the hypodermic into place and stabs it into his arm.

CLOSE UP on his face.

First the agony, then the ecstasy and then his face starts to mould. Slowly, as if trying on a new glove, but eventually his face transforms to Beckham's.

The new Beckham looks into the mirror again.

CLAYFACE(mimicking Beckhams accent) : I'm very pleased to be here at ...

He looks mock-confused for a moment, and then his face drops into serious confusion.

CLAYFACE(normal accent) : at...

Looking round, we follow his eyes as they pan across the room. Hundreds of photos stare back at him, all with different faces.

CLAYFACE(panicking) : at...at...

Under his view, we see all the faces melting slowly. He quivers, almost literally, but then...

CLAYFACE(shouts) : THE SUPERBOWL!

SCOOTER (O.S.) : Are you alright in there Sir?

CLAYFACE looks at the door and squints as if in pain.

CLAYFACE(Beckham's accent again) : Fine. Tell Victoria I'll be out in a moment.

He walks back to the mirror and we focus on the lumps of flesh slowly sinking into the picture of Bruce Wayne.

CLAYFACE(normal voice) : Next time, Mr. Wayne. I'll be you.

One possible route being ignored is to extend the Ra's al Ghul storyline. He had two daughters, Nyssa and Talia, that were involved in his organization. Talia even had a relationship with Wayne in the comics that resulted in a son.

Here's a solid article talking about possibilities, with a couple interesting ones. I like the thought of Black Mask as a versus to Batman, and a more deranged Riddler in the vein of Cillian Murphy's Scarecrow sounds better the more I think of it, especially with David Tennant in the role.

Plus, here's a quote of his from an old comic: "You don't understand. .. I really didn't want to leave you any clues. I really planned never to go back to Arkham Asylum. But I left you a clue anyway. So I... I have to go back there. Because I might need help. I... I might actually be crazy." I like the idea of a villain with little control but who can't help it, as a counter to the Joker who has no control and doesn't want any.

Batgirl might work, Batman needs something he can care about again to humanize him.
I used the same reasoning to conclude that Selina Kyle would be perfect... despite the Catwoman flick that missed the litter tray and stank up the place, the Wayne/Kyle : Batman/Catwoman symmetry would be right down Nolan's alley.

Besides, I think it's too early in the series yet for Batgirl unless the storyline clock winds a long way forward between TDK and its sequel.

The thing I like about the Batman franchise is it's not just doing the whole Dragon Ball Z thing where it's one super-powered guy versus an even stronger super-powered guy, and the hero has to become stronger to overpower the even stronger super-powered guy. Once the even stronger super-powered guy is defeated, he makes way for a yet even more powerful super-powered guy.

No, Batman is everyone outwitting each other. The only actual "super" villains are Freeze and Ivy, and maybe a couple other guys. For the most part though, it's just heads of evil organizations taking over a city of morons who decide to live there even though it gets pwned on a daily basis. With that said, it's hard to actually say who might be next. I'm still betting on Riddler, or maybe Penguin if they're really desperate.

I think Batgirl and Catwomen would be really bad unless Joss Whedon was doing the writing. Not many people understand how to make a strong female without making her act like a man.

I think it is still open that Two-Face is alive so I bet he turns up in the next film but doubt he will be the main storyline.

Well, maybe there were some clues in the second installment that may open up a few doors for the 3rd movies antagonist.

1) Two-Face will be back. My guess is that Dent, having no place in the legal system starts brandishing out his own "justice" against the people who he perceived were responsible for Dawes death, Batman and Gordan, though indirectly at first. Sort of like the Joker, only more methodical.

2) Batman/Wayne need a new love interest. And a potential hint thrown by Fox, Batman's suit doesn't provide much protection against cats. Perhaps there's a dual role, one as Waynes new love interest who happens to be 'Catwoman' as well. Obviously the whole cat thing will have to be toned WAY down. Say she's a cat-burglar that maybe the media give a pet name to "The Cat Woman" hired by Harvey/underworld figures, to steal from Wayne and along the way sort of get tangled between Wayne/Batman. Or something along those lines. Two face being the main villian, "Cat Woman" being sort of the secondary villain. Again, the whole cat thing would need to be far darker, and way less about being a cat.

3) The Penguin is a possibility, though don't think Danny Devito stupidity, think more along the lines of Raymond Calitri from "Gone in 60 Seconds" only less of a doufus, sort of a Daniel Craig meets Jason Statham. A British guy, maybe a hit man/import mob boss, wears a Tuxedo, that sort of thing. Maybe even has an umbrella that's also a gun, and many other concealable type weapons.

4) League of Shadows (Assassins). Sure, Ra's died in the first batman, though why couldn't someone else take over the League of Shadows (or another Ra's, which is just a symbol, like Batman himself)? Say, his daughter? Limitless possibilities here, including the fact that the Ra's we knew in the movie survived (unlikely, but possible). Also there's literature that suggests Ra's actually was the head of two factions, perhaps the combination of League of Assassins and Society of Shadows (into League of Shadows) was intentional in the movie. Maybe the two factions split after Ra's death. Or two new emerged.

5) Definitely no Poison Ivy or Mr. Freeze. And ABSOLUTELY no Robin.

6) The Riddler is definitely a possibility. Though again, no funky green suit. More of a serial killer with a knack for leaving riddles. Think Joker, but with more hint dropping and less theatrics. And his name is definitely not Edward Nygma. Just some guy targeting the Gotham elite. Again, could be a secondary villain to Two Face.

7) The Joker. As long as you can find someone to pull it off, there was enough going on in makeup so that the look wouldn't be too far off. But man, that was some Oscar winning stuff Ledger pulled off, so good luck with that.

8) Man-bat I find sort of dumb, unless there's some guy out there copying batman, trying to bring down Batman's name. Of course, you couldn't call him 'Man-Bat' in the movie and get a serious reaction, nor could he be half bat and half man. He'd have to be some sort of diabolical copy-cat.

9) Bane is possible. Though I would think more along the lines of an Insane Arkham prisoner. And no silly purple outfit, or S&M mask.

I say Nolan should completely rip off Frank Miller's "Dark Knight Returns" and have Batman kick Superman's ass in the next flick. Nuclear winter + synthetic kryptonite 4tw!

Well there are no new crime bosses and since penguin is just a crime boss they could introduce him as just the new crime boss. i'd like to see the riddler, they can make him more of like a serial killer that leaves riddles on who he will kill next. It seems that they are trying to stay more realistic so you can't hope to see bane, clayface, or killer crock (which is a good thing) I hope they don't try to add robin or cat woman. My vote is for riddler.

I say Catwoman. Sure the Halle Berry movie sucked, but that doesn't destroy the character. Now Batman has lost his love, so he may be up for a manipulative lady.

As opposed to Keaton's raspy whisper? Or Kilmer's lilt? It's actually part of the character, just FYI. The voice and the cowl that changes the shape of his head are crucial parts of hiding his identity, 2 things that these versions of the story get dead bang on in my opinion. If he spoke in his educated Gotham socialite voice, it would just be too easy. At least he's not hanging the whole thing on a pair of glasses and a geek shtick.

You'd prefer maybe a Patrick Warburton/Brock Samson voice on your Batman?

The actor for the animated Batman (Kevin Conroy) did a really good job with the two voices. Keaton's was definitely better. Bale sounds like he's about to cough out a hairball at any second. Blech.

I love the idea of Bane being the next main villain. It would be a good time for Batman to fall. Have Bane release all the crazies from Arkham Asylum and just like someone stated earlier, wear Batman down then break him. End the movie right there. Batman 4 should be filmed at the same time so the space in between films can be no more that a year though. Batman 4 can then show the end of Batman's rehabilitation and recreate him for Batman 5 and 6.

In response to all the Penguin stuff at the beginning
Penguin was an economical terrorist, and as such very relevant to current events, also he was often flanked by cat woman so that might make things a bit more intresting.

But for the third one, my vote's for the riddler, he's the most likely even if not the most interesting
