Hmm, I surprised at how many people NEVER knew this. I always knew he hit it with his hand; even when I was a child I was aware of this.

It's hard to notice it at first; because while playing mario games, you generally DON'T look at mario, and you generaly look where you wanna go. But if you pay attention to mario, you CLEARLY see him raise his hand and PUNCH the block.
