Heh, some of these are pretty cool (#526 Gigaiasu, #604 Shibirudon are my favorites for the cool category), some of them are cute (#524 Dangoro which evolves into Gigaiasu, and #527 Koromori come to mind), and some of them are just plain WEIRD (#558 Iwaparesu, a hermit crab with a cross section of earth on its back? #563, a mummy case with arms? #582-584, are those... Ice cream cones?!? #599-601, they're gears?) but overall I like it. The only thing that disappoints me is that a lot of the bird ones don't look that original, and #549 Doreida looks a bit too much like Bellossom for my taste.

See, I WAS going to just get SoulSilver and figure that would quench my catch-em-all desires for a while (I mean, red has lasted me all this time, haven't played one since then) but a lot of factors make it sound like this game will be a must-have for me.

Oh, last note, I'm a lot happier with the starters than I expected to be.all their forms look pretty good, I am not displeased.

I wasn't really looking forward to seeing the new pokes after I saw the initial leaks/announcements. I thought they were really scraping the bottom of the barrel int eh designs department to bleed more money out of a cherished franchise (which they are though, I suppose).

But now I think I was wrong. While there are a lot of misses, there are a LOT more hits. Can't wait to put together my team: Jaroda, Doryuuzu, Roopushin, Abagoora, Ononokusu, Wargle.

And for the record, my favourite generation is R/S/E, and my favourite pokemans is Aggron.
Is it just me...or does Aggron sound like a train in the games?

By the way, Scizor owns ;)

I absolutely love the new grass starter, especially it's final evolution. Definitely the best grass starter yet (with the exception of bulbasaur).

Then I looked at it's stats...

My god Gamefreak, WHY!? You've created a bad ass mother******* snake dragon thing, and you have to go ruin it by giving it terrible typing, horrible attack stats, mediocre defenses and a decent speed which, due to it's low attack, it can't really do anything with anyway!

I was hoping for speed, offense and low defense given it's looks, and I was sorely disappointed.

Although it's not gonna stop me getting the game and naming my new grass starter Smugleaf :p
Serebii might of got the stats wrong, it is early days yet.
I certainly hope so, right now it's completely inferior to the other starters in all but looks.

But damn, that thing is smexy.
Even if it stats are horrible, just give Calcium and stuff :p

If you have only been playing Red all this time, i would easily recommend SS/HG (Or Black and white when released if you fancy a new region all together).

With HG/SS you can still catch all Pokemon from RED/BLUE and don't have to collect others, but a few new other might tickle your fancy :p

Ah, I should have been clearer - I DID buy SoulSilver and have played about 60 hours, now stopped at the Final Four(five... grr) simply because I have almost no Ice Pokemon at level to have any chance at Lance - And I even got the Lapras from the cave! (My own fault, really, but still... double grr). I figured SoulSilver would keep me happy for another 10 years or so, but a lot of things, not just the new Pokemon but all the changes to the game, make me really want to get this. Maybe I'll try and wait until I've completed SS, it'll hopefully be a little cheaper then. This does look amazing though.

It's not like I play Red every day or something though, I first played it with my cousin... what, must've been around 10 years ago or more? We had the hook up cables and all, and we captured all of them together, then my itch was satisfied, and then a few years later I got the urge, played through again, and repeat. I might not get a second playthrough out of SoulSilver though, maybe just enough to capture everything I can.

Well, damn. I was hoping for a different type combo for the fire starter, but whatever. Though I really liked that there were a lot of cool type combos. Also, Sazando, Kurimugan, Genosekuto and Kirikizan are badass.

Ah, Curse my reading skills!

anyway if you want an ICE Pokemon, get a Swinub and evolve it, you can find them in ICE cave before Blackthorn :p

Or if you want a Dragon type (To also beat Lance), get Dratini from dragon cave :p you should of also got a TM from the last GYM leader, which should be Dragon Pulse :p Typhlosion or Feraligatr should be able to learn it then you will have a fighting chance of defeating Lance :p

I managed to beat the Elite 4 + Lance with just Feraligatr, Ampharos, Torterra, Charizard, Kengaskhan, and Pigeot :p My Feraligatr managed to beat Lance since it new Ice Fang and Dragon Claw :p

Just try and improvise and you'll do it :p And about Red i just can't play it any more =\ it's awesome, but the pixels and music just drive me insane sometimes, i can play yellow though, weirdly.

hmm...

too many?

can you really grow attached to that many? and I mean, the need to do more than just re-skin the old ones, jumble the abilities around a bit and give it a new name.

hell, even with the original 150 the only reason I really got attached to most of them was because of the TV show.

quality over quantity.

I cannot say that any of them particularly appeal to me. They're all so busy, even the most simple of them just feel like a clusterfuck of colours and lines. Let me use a few examples:

Dasutodasu
Gigigear
Oobemu
Kurimugan
Goruggo

They just look so fucking mad, some of them bordering on Yu-Gi-Oh! monsters.
I read up until "cluster fuck of colors and lines" and died of laughter. THank you my good man!!!

but yeah, and what about the pokemon and its evolutions that are literally just a bunch of gears?

Their are Pokemon to suite everybody's needs, not everyone will like every single Pokemon (Jyx *shudders*), I know that i can easily grow attached to some of them, hell even most, i already have picked my favourite out of them and will keep an eye on them :p (The Electric Spider is just pure awesome!)

EV training only goes so far, though I'll definitely breed one with great IV's then EV train.

It's just that even though the stats are by no means bad, I just don't think they suit that particular pokemon. He has no real strengths apart from his speed, but with a mediocre spread elsewhere he can't do anything with it.

Compared to the other starter evolutions, he's delegated to running fast. The firepig, while slow, packs a mean attack stat, and good health makes up for the under-average defenses. The unicorn water beaver (what the hell is that thing) has a spread much more suited to his looks, with decent attack and special attack, and good stats elsewhere except speed (for a starter). I can't imagine it running very quickly either.

I'm just saddened that what looked to be a fast, offensive yet fragile pokemon turned out to be some sort of fast defender. If we switched his attack stats with his defense stats he could be great, but unfortunately it's not so.

Creatures in Pokemon and cars in Forza/GT have the same thing in common. The game makers can add as many as they want to the game but people will still only use around 10% of them.

Anyway, when will they stop inventing new Pokemon? Soon there will be in there 1000's and each new Pokemon will look more and more crap looking. Its quantity over quality.
As i stated above, not everyone will like every Pokemon, their will be Pokemon here suited to everyone, just pick out the ones you like and stick to them :p

Hell i hate quite a few Pokemon (Jynx, Executor, Ambipom, Prinplup, Zigzagoon, Baltoy etc.) But i just catch them (so i can say i have had them) and just leave them, and stick the ones who are epic! (Scizor, Aggron, Jolteon, Umbreon, Quilava, Charizard, Pigeot etc.)

It's just like any other Pokemon game, pick the ones you like and stick with them.

I'm sorry, but gear?

Really? A pokemon named Gear? And its evolutions aren't much better. Gigear, and Gigigear?

With some of the names of the other pokemon, that one was pretty disappointing.

Other than that, nice list.

I'm actually quite pleased with how this generation seems to have turned out. Along with finally creating the type I wanted, (dark/dragon) most of the pokemon are fairly well designed. Hopefully the gameplay will back this generation up.

They look more japanese if that makes any sense, but again they just don't look as cool as the first 300 (up to gold n'silver). While some of them look alright, most of them look silly or are just really lame.

That said, I won't be getting anymore pokemon games. I already have about 10 of them and they don't do anything for me since they over use all the same elements over and over.

the frist 20 all look remarkably similar.

Anyway the point being, who still plays Pokémon? It burnt out and faded away years ago. Now it's just EA-styled. Same game, new people in it.

A bunch of them look cool, even have a team working in my head, depending on who i can catch and when. So want the giant eagle thing. But, do we really need yet another fire/fighter as he starting type. The last two gens had that type set up, couldn't we get something new. Like fire/dark. Oh well, makes me choosing a starter easier. Also is it just me or are there a ton of dragon and ghost types in this gen?
