I got one actually, the token black character.
This is a trend that has to stop.

Oaky first of all the writers have no idea how to write black characters, so their behaviour is essentially a stupid stereotype.

But the main reason is that most of the time movies add a black character to the story so as not to be accused of being racist when casting....
So to try to announce how 'not racist' they are they decide to add an out of place, obnoxious and annoying ethnic character who stands out from the rest of the characters and usually has little to no relevance to the actual PLOT. Who was added just because (s)he is black.
Isn't that just as racist when you think about it? Because they only do that to draw attention to the fact that the person's skin is a different colour to the others. You shouldn't need to add an ethnic character to a cast just for the sake of having one.
"'Tru dat yo' indeed, inevitable black gang member!"

I like this, and I might take it a bit further. Token ANYTHING should removed from movies. Especially the token love interest. It's just a product of lazy writing.

I see your point with the vampires, but I thought the mannequins really worked, it turned the first part of the film into an analysis of a man and his deterioration through isolation. But I'm never going back to it, it hurt me too badly.
It wasn't that bad...but it really lacked subtlety.
The Novel, once again, was a bit more realistic/believable with that.

But back to Topic:

What i really hate are "Disneyfied" Endings, especially in Pixar Movies.

Two Examples:

Monsters, Inc.

I love the film mostly for all the Sci-Fi-Horror like Scenes when this Child is discovered in "the monster world" and everyone panics. And scaring these Kids to produce power is very clever.
I'm okay with the kid turning out to be not "toxic" and the protagonists bonding with it...but the reveal that laughing kids produce a lot more power? Come on, that was just lame (along with the entire epilogue...it just sucked).

WALL-E

I really like that movie, but the third act is so....generic.
And it would be a lot more touching if the repaired WALL-E would've stayed "resetted", maybe regaining his personality SLOWLY thanks to EVE, but the wonderous Insta-Heal thingie was so forced and boring that it would've been just better if WALL-E would not get damaged in the first place...

How about some examples of movies with a token black character that was not integral to the plot?

Transformers could have done without a car ad or 2....thousand.
You mean that movie where the giant alien robots disguise themselves as vehicles?

Let's take Hayden Christianson out of the Star Wars sequels. We could have him digitally removed.
Like they did with the actor who played Anakin Skywalkers force ghost.

Hey my seven hundreth post.

My main example is that after Scream had an entirely white cast that all fit in with the actual story people complained about the absense of black people. So they came back with a tonne of other black characters who were not needed and stood out in the story.

Also that movie evolution, the black guy could have been completely cut from production.. no one would have noticed.

Superman Returns. End the movie on a better note than "hey kid, I'm taking off, good luck with that being a freak thing". Just made me really hate Superman right there. Guy just came off as being the galaxy's biggest dick.

Dawn of the Dead. The original. Apparently there was an alternate ending that had been planned and then later scrapped that involved one character throwing her head into a helicopter rotor and another one just shooting themselves. Why? Because they realized that there wasn't any escape and that the whole damn world was covered in undead and would be no matter where they went. That would have made for the better movie I think, not some bubblegum pop happy ending "hero riding off into the sunset" bullcrap. No. Something real, and depressing. It's actually something that the remake nailed with their epilogue.

Donnie Darko would have been better if Frank's appearance (Evil Bunny Rabbit Suit) was just a part of a hallucination and not the halloween costume of the person Donnie ends up killing.

The Harry Potter and Lord of The Rings films would have been better if they didn't take out vital character building parts (in the books) to put in prolonged, pointless action scenes.

I Am Legend.

The film was amazing, at least for the first two thirds. And then the kid shows up, and everything turns to balls, and the original message of the novel is completely turned about and shat upon.

I don't think I've ever been so disappointed.
Not read the book but I agree that the film was amazing up until the part where he meets the woman and boy.

How do you feel about the original ending on the DVD?
The one where it's revealed that the alpha male... vampire monster thing... was in fact this whole time just searching for his mate that Robert Neville had captured and that was the reason he had exposed himself to sunlight and had been searching frantically?
The moment of love and humanity?

Yeah... that ending actually made sense and gave me something to ponder about, better then just 'blow these evil guys and myself up with a grenade to save some characters that no one likes' as an ending.

Wanted bugged the shit out of me.
I hadn't really payed attention to the film when it was out in the cinema but was bored and asked my flatmate for a loan of a dvd to watch - he had Wanted and thought why not, it was special addition or somthing and had the first chapter or so of the original comic inside so I gave it a read and thought

"Wow this looks awesome they hinted at traveling through dimensions and supernatural creatures, hot chicks shooting up places for no reason and general crazy shit!"

Then the whole film turned out to be a bunch of people spinning bullets round things - meh.

I rather enjoyed Jar Jar for his pathetic humor in him.

To be annoying, I think if Star Wars: Episodes I, II and III had their entirety removed, they would be a LOT better.
God, you people are way too critical when I came to Star Wars: Eps 1-3. I'll admit that the second one was very iffy but does that really condemn the rest of them? Think about it, lightsaber battles wouldn't be as badass as they are now if we would have left them to Luke, Vader, and old Obi-Wan.

On Topic: They could destroy the Watchmen movie, re-film it and follow the comic better, or alternatively they could just leave it in the comic.

If they changed the total BS ending of "The Mist", it could have been a great horror film. The end just tried to screw with your mind.

The main character shoots his 8-year-old son in the forehead with his last bullet so he doesn't have to experience the horror of being eaten by monsters. Not 2 minutes later, the main character gets rescued by the military and taken to a safe camp. It was messed up and just left a bad taste in my mouth.
