So, I was playing Assassin's Creed and it finally clicked with me while I was taking down wanted posters, that a lot of them are way up on top of buildings. Generally out of sight to the random passerby. Now of course, I know this isn't true of all wanted posters, but a vast majority of the posters I took down were on the upper area of a building. Wouldn't the whole purpose of a wanted poster to be that people can SEE it and alert authorities of the subject? Hardly effective if they're up out of sight.
I thought exactly this the first time I played the game, and even ponted it out to other peple, who hadn't thought of it before!

The sheer unbridled popularity of Call of Duty.

The inability to see your own body when you look down in almost every FPS.

Why developers feel the need to reduce your movement speed in order to artificially lengthen gameplay.

Why the protagonists that speak feel the need to broadcast every thought that pops into their heads.

Why there's no real game set in the Napoleonic war.

Why everyone has to be either American or an ethnic stereotype.

Why guns are so damned quick to reload.

Why characters without a technologically advanced visor or retinal display have cross-hairs.

Why sniping is so popular.

How people use an analogue stick for aiming.

I could go on.

all the weird betrayals. the one that stood out for me was in {spoiler]red alert 3, when cherdenko betrays you because: you know to much. sorry sir, but I didn't know shit until you just TOLD me, right after you betrayed me. wouldn't it have been smarter to just keep me in the dark and let me kick allied butt? and especially don't betray someone after you just witnessed him wreck someone's shit multiple times!
and what's up with a doomsday volcano fort on easter island anyway? could've just left and nuked the island to kingdom come...

How (in FF7) a scrawny kid can hold a sword that's at least as big as him, and possibly really heavy...

And swing it around like it's nothing. He even spins it...

How the fuck does he even stand up without falling over?
The only possible answer is of course....that it is a very light but strong alloy of some sort. I guess that's what one is supposed to assume as it is never explained. Not a first...in JRPGs.

So I ask you, my fellow Escapists, what sort of anomalies have you come across in your video games that just made you take a second and think: Wtf?
Still though. The wanted posters are shot where the guards see them; on the roofs where they patrol. It's not the citizens that hunt you, it's those guys who hang out on the roof.

OT: Anything and everything in Dwarf Fortress. Make a lava forge out of ice? Man, dwarven engineering must be awesome.

Why, in GTA IV, despite my having completely ignored Kate McCreary and never having phoned or dated her, she is still being invited to the wedding/referred to as Niko's love interest and someone he actually gives a flying fuck about?

And why, oh why, when Dimitri makes his getaway in the post-Deal ending, do you try and grab on to his chopper's skids, rather than just pulling out your trusty rocket launcher and blowing him up?

which would totally negate the advantage of having a big sword to begin with. it's the weight that makes swords useful (that, and the pointy bits). why wouldn't he just take a smaller sword that's as heavy but easier to handle?

How does Master Chief's Shield work? I mean why does it need to recharge? It isn't solar powered. It just arbitrarily is.

In Just Cause Two when falling to the floor from a massive jump how does grappling to the floor projecting yourself faster to concrete save your life?

Inconsistent injuries, why do you not show damage when an enemy bullet or hatchet just took a chunk outa' you?! Halo, Crysis and others with armor get off scot-free here but what about every single other game in the world?!
Mortal Kombat has visible damage. Mind you it's pre-rendered damage, but I've always wondered about this, too. I'd like to see a game where, if a sword slashed my arm, there's a mark that shows I got hit by a sword there.
The pre-rendered.....ness bugs the crap outa' me though, makes it feel awfully false, but the best game for consistent damage was Bushido Blade, basically a samurai beat-em-up. I can't remember if damage actually showed up (don't think it did) but injuries were consistent, like, for example hitting a dude in the left arm would force him to swing his sword with only the right, and taking out a leg would force the enemy into a crouch, t'was awesome. Needs a remake. Now.

In any game where a "Tank" is involved: Why monsters beat on something causing very little damage and clearly designed to withstand its attacks when there's perfectly squishy healers and casters and things that actually hurt nearby.

Why do I have to go to a church and CONFESS to save in Dragon Quest IX?
"Dear lord forgive me for I have murdered many random creatures to become stronger."

Why do shotguns have an effective range of about 2m?

Why, in Crysis 2, if I have cloaked does my shadow still appear on the ground?(can't speak for the first one though)

And finally, why can I shoot someone in the foot and still manage to kill them?

Apologies if any of these have been mentioned already.

The more I think about it, the more levelling up, especially in something like Final Fantasy, makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

You seriously expect me to believe that my characters went from dealing forty damage to dealing nine thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine damage in the course of a few days, and from monsters and robots being serious threats who could kill them at the beginning of the game not even so much as leaving a scratch by the end because you have 9999 Hit Points as opposed to the paltry 200 you started with? WHAT DO THESE NUMBERS EVEN MEAN EVEN? This is like DBZ logic.

How come in Final Fantasy XIII, When the character your controlling dies, noone even tries to use Pheonix Down. And even if they didn't, they could still go on without them.
