League of Legends and all games of the moba genre really but League of Legends seems to be the worst offender.

World of Warcraft. I can't stand to play the game for 5 minutes without being disgusted by how awful the community is. 5 years ago I was addicted to it more then any kind of drug, now even thinking about it makes my stomach turn and changes my mood negatively.
Now that raids are open to newer players (and I can finally get on one!) its only gotten worse. Thralls balls, if you don't crunch your numbers to Noxxic's percise class sets, you might as well not play as elitist butt holes will laugh you out of the raid.
I agree. The community in that game made me not want to bother with any of the Cata content past level 80. People just seemed to develop very hostile attitudes towards each other. It was considered an insult to have started playing the game during Wrath, group with people outside of the guild to run a raid or dungeon, to consider to content to be too difficult, and to go into a dungeon or raid without reading a guide or watching a video on how to beat it. I've heard stories of people getting kicked out of groups just for asking about the mechanics of a dungeon. It just became a very bad environment for any new, casual, or lower skilled player. I ended up just playing the revised 1-60 zones before getting bored and quitting.

Nothing has made me stop liking omething, but fans can top me from declaring my love of game/media.

It's with almost everything. Sonic fanboys and the bad deviant art jokes. Call of Duty fans accused of being 12 year old twats. MLP fans for...existing.

I'm just drawn to fanbases with bad reps subconsuoisly it would seem.

I might get the scalding piranha tank for this one, but Firefly and Nathan Fillion...

I've known people who have gone out of their way to bring just about any conversation back to Firefly, and identify themselves as browncoats more than once in the same discussion... After a few conversations, familiarity breeds contempt very quickly...

Basically the same, but more diffuse experience with Cap'n Mal / Fillion worship... He's a fine actor and seems like a charming person, but just leave it alone for a bit. I think repeatedly speaking his name is some sort of coping mechanism for the jilted fans who think maybe it will work like Beetlejuice and bring it all back.

TL;DR - I loved the show and the main actor. They do NOT need to be the cornerstone of all discussion.

D&D fans and stereotypes of said fans can make me hesitate before admitting to DMing for years. I love the game, but there are far too many basement dwellers who rarely shower who take up space in the local game rooms.

MLP,Hentalia and Homestuck...my god Homestuck fans can be the grossest people.
Also Puella Magi Madoka Magica to a point I still enjoy it so it hasn't been ruined but it seems like a chunk of the fans believe it is some sort of masterpiece(Its good but it isn't a masterpiece.)

Just thinking that :D

Every time a custscene started playing in Generations, I couldn't stop thinking, 'You know what, I bet somebody, somewhere, is doing something very wrong with these characters...'.
Theres a rule 34 of young sonic fucking older sonic..... No, don't you dare search it up.

But yes, Daystar is once again right, someone is always making something entirely inappropriate out of certain subject matters.

V for Vendetta, specifically V's outfit. I think he looks really cool, and I love the mask, but since it's become the symbol of Anonymous and the Occupy movement it'd be impossible to wear it as a costume.
There's reasons they use Guy Faulkes as iconry.
I honestly thought it was really good symbolism.

I can agree with this. The DM that I was with for about a month or two was both very bad at actually playing the game and instead would just strike up casual conversation. One of his favorite topics pretty much defending what you stated... Just... Just the irony of it.

I prefer not to judge people like that, we're all so flawed I find it kind of arrogant to assume that you're better than someone because you don't like how they respond to a show.
By the same exact token, no one was claiming that they were perfect because they didn't like X, just exposing the flaws in others so that they may become a more well-rounded individual. If someone was unnecessarily whiny, not pointing this out to the person would mean they would continue to be whiny. If you do point it out to them they will change to be a more fun and rounded person to be around.

Just thought.

Bioware fans. I have never seen so much hatred in a community. They are spoiled brats who are never satisfied with what they have. I'm not just talking about the endings; I'm also talking about facebook and forums.

Portal fans literally ruined the game for me. People randomly spouting "the cake is a lie" ruined my experience to the point that the charm that drew people in wasn't there for me. It's a game I want to like, but I can't.
That's right, if the box was full of shit we should be happy that we can play with shit.

Also, on the latter, people who are spouting that are not Portal fans, their people who like Memes, difference.

My thoughts on fanbases that have ruined something for me.

The MLP:FiM community, all of them. Ok, not all, I'm sure there are a 10% chunk of them that actually manage to know how to not be annoying about their like of the show, similar to how I don't rub everything I like in someone's face.

I mean... I really can't drive a nail into it, its just everything. So I suppose we'll hit big ones.

The artists who either beg or ask for donations to make things that are copyrighted. What this is doing is pretty much a lawsuit waiting to happen. Most art created around this show is usually either 1) porn 2) sexually suggestive imagery 3) actually publicly acceptable pictures of all the ponies having fun together, however this is ultimately the minority of what I have seen. Also, fuck memes, real memes are actually funny and not the same shit over and over again.

The people who create fans songs usually do not work well with the source material and are very much trying to cash in on its popularity [I hope] to get attention for other works they may do down the line.

The fanfiction..... I mean, there exists a Sweeney Todd fan-fiction with the Cast of MLP. I mean... I really can't say much, a large amount of it is just really bad and the few that do turn out to be good is still connected, less of the cannon but made up cannon that this community has made. Its like someone claiming that Luigi wore Mario's outfit in one of the levels and that is why Princess Peach isn't there. Sure you could speculate it but at the end of it the day, she just wasn't there.

Overall, I feel that the Escapists pony fanbase are among some of the best of being respectful of others and not shoving their likes down the throats of others, and I commentate them for that, however the fan-base can be pretty annoying to be around and I honestly don't think that just because you like a children's television show that you should be taken more seriously then anyone else.

Runner up, the TV show's fanbase for the Walking Dead. The comic had more balls, was three times better, was deeper and did the apocalypse, the end-times much better. If it wasn't for the occasional zombie in the TV show you could make it out to be a family going on a camping trip.

There are fanbases I refuse to associate with, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying the thing in question though.

Absolutly. Love the costume, not a bundle on the ideology but still. Yeah now you cant wear that to a party without people associating you with anonymous or "the 99%" or one of these other riddiculous pressure groups who think the world can be made a better place without making a positive or productive contribution themselves.

I am gonna jump on the Mass Effect 3 bandwagon. I hate the over-analyzers. Waaaah the explosions, waaaaah the God-thingy, waaaah Harbinger standing there like a stick. I try to overlook the massive whining and say that I picked the right ending but every time there are these...individuals drilling their way into my head.

FTR, I went through the indoctrination theory and all that crap. Still doesn't make enough sense for it to be a good ending. CONTROL, CONTROL AND CONTROL !

The Total war fans believe it or not. You're average fan is grand but the fans i see on their forums from my lurking leaves much to be desired. A lot of them are grand as well but it seems like no poster can say anything without it becoming this huge debate completely removed the OP half the time. Could be i'm over analyzing but there Seems to be a lot of big egos on that forum at any rate its quite off putting

Furries.

I'm not a furry myself, but I can respect it. There's definitely an appeal in reverting to a more primal state, and in our world there's few things more primal than animals. Wanting to be a half-human/half-animal? Or completely an animal? Or whatever? Yeah guys. I can totally see that. I can even get why you would dress up in suits to achieve the illusion. I respect that.

But Jesus Christ why did you have to install such lifeless, robotic eyes into your robotic, horrible fursuit heads??! It's scary like... like Disneyland animatronics. I mean JEEESUS FUCK. FUCK. FUUUCK. Please stop doing that. I can take the yiffing, I can take the concept of a fursuit, I can take the erotic art and everything that accompanies the lifestyle/fetish/sexuality etc. etc. ...but NOT creepy-ass lifeless uncanny valley robot heads. Fucking... fuck. FUCK.

Didn't they sexualize most of those characters in the show anyway? I mean Rei did become a giant, naked woman in End of Evangelion. So like... y'know.

Plus that Shinji is totally cute.*

*Not really

Eh, I agree. Doesn't mean there isn't something sexual or sensual about it. I mean, I'm pretty certain Shinji's sexuality is purposefully thrown into question several times. I mean, fetishization is one thing, but sexualization is definitely in place and the internet has taken that further until it reaches its unholy logical conclusion.

Art is allowed to share the bed with petty sexualization. Even if it is done so in a symbolic matter. ...just my two cents.

Oh I definitely agree, one of NGE's many themes is sexuality and that is exactly why I find it annoying when someone draws up a half-naked picture of Rei in bed with Shinji. I'm sure I'll get over it though, it's rather petty.

I don't like cloppers (MLP:FIM) love the show myself but that is a bit creepy. I don't like teenage girls who play the sims 3 either. I never go on the sims 3 forums it's like COD bro-dudes but with girls D:

I didn't realise the Megaman fanbase had a bad name (probably because the only videogame fanbases I know about are the ones for FPSs and Sonic). What have they done wrong to earn the hate?
And to answer the OP, the fact Sonic appears to have such a large Rule 34-centred faction of its fanbase made watching cutscenes in Sonic Generations more difficult than it would have been.
