You're only seeing the front of the mask. The "music industry" comprises WAAAAAAAAAAY more than just musicians. The Music Industry has the use of keeping hundreds of thousands of marketers and lawyers and album artists and recording engineers and CD reproduction plant workers and lighting technicians and vocal coaches and journalists employed.monnes said:The music industry has no use but to keep a few elite artists on top, and keeping everyone else down. "I expected more from Yahtzee."
Basically any 'explanation' for stealing music/movies/TV/video games:
"Popular music is terrible, why should I have to pay for it?" You're not stealing Ke$ha, you're stealing Animal Collective.
"Radiohead did a pay-what-you-want album and that worked fine." So why doesn't every internationally-acclaimed band with dozens of popular singles just do that, then?
"Blizzard can make money without doing this anti-piracy crap, so why is Ubisoft doing this to us?"
"Stealing is okay if I am very angry when I do it/if the people stealing are incredibly good at it."
"Piracy has no effect on the industry."
"Video games are over priced"
and the one that makes my mouth foam:
"Why make something great when good sells better?" You don't sound smart or revolutionary any more, you just sound like you don't understand business.
Hypotheticals are fun, arn't they?
Now downloading films and games is a whole other issue.
I am aware that the artists and the suits are just the tip of the iceberg, but I think that industries like the music industry, which main purpose (as i see it) is to keep the status quo so that the few elite artists are on top and no other artist has a real shot. Piracy has changed this, as I mentioned in an earlier post. But the way I see it, for the world to evolve, an industry which can't survive without help from the goverment (in this case, with the help of a number of laws) doesn't deserve to live.JuryNelson said:You're only seeing the front of the mask. Your line about "if their job serves no purpose then their manpower could be of better use elsewhere" could make this list, too. Their job DOES serve a purpose, but it's just one that you never see. Or, more universally, their job serves the purpose of being a job and paying for things. We can't all be sunshine and giggle salesmen, some folks have to build the stage for a Ke$ha concert to pay for a mortgage.
What it comes down to is this: I'm all for playing "Fuck-the-man," but it is irresponsible to act like you don't know why things are this way. THAT'S what makes me tired about people complaining about piracy. These people aren't damsel-kidnapping mustache-twirlers, they just see the world differently.

It always came off as arrogant.
Other ones include "Lol ____fag", "I don't want to have to spend 1000 on a computer I'll have to upgrade in a year" (blatantly untrue), and any sentence Where Every Word Is Capitalized.
I Wonder Why People Do That Because It Makes It Almost Unreadable.

No, I deem my statement as an attack on Ignorance, not the political view of some of those whom poseess it. I respect the republicans just as much as members of my own party if they are able to give good reason for doing so, I firmly believe that "cheap booze" isn't a good reason. Those whom follow an ideology like sheep follow a sheperd without thought or ideas of their own have no respect to espect from me! If you want to stand for something, you need a good reason.

The music industry already is falling apart and I blame it on the pirates. Most people I know pirate from bands that haven't even made it big yet and thus possibly never will since they'll never make enough money from people stealing their shit. And even bigger groups aren't immune from losing lots of money due to piracy.JuryNelson said:And if the laws that are put in place to protect the music industry dissolve and the music industry falls apart, well, then I hope you didn't like listening to new music on the radio because that will also stop happening.
?which is kind of why I'm sick of hearing about things like this.
I would have to disagree. Many budding musicians are held back by the fact they can't make enough to make it big because people don't buy their records. Why don't people buy their records? Because they steal their music instead. There's no use in being a popular musician if you can't make any money out of it, is there? You do realise actually buying their stuff might actually might make the music industry take them on, after all the purpose of any industry is to make money and the little people who put on some good shows but don't sell records aren't going to do that, are they?monnes said:I am aware that the artists and the suits are just the tip of the iceberg, but I think that industries like the music industry, which main purpose (as i see it) is to keep the status quo so that the few elite artists are on top and no other artist has a real shot.
