Thief 3 did this fairly good. If you faced an object that you could realistically climb on top of (box, window frame, etc), pressing jump would make Garret just climb on top of the thing. The downside was, sometimes it would bug, and instead of climbing you would just do a little bunny hop, which makes noise. Noise is bad in a game about sneaking.propertyofcobra said:I don't want a "jump" button ever again in a game. I want a "jump-roll-climb-scale" combined button that does whatever makes the most sense contextually at the moment.
What Im tired of is shooter games where you cant see your goddamn body. Its stupid that you can look down, and evidently youre just a disembodied head. Its hugely more immersive when you look down, and see that you have an actual body. The only games that come directly to mind that did this was Thief 3, and Jurassic Park Trespasser. Actually Trespasser used it uniquely, as your health indicator was a tattoo on your chest.
I also want more shooter games to implement realistic ballistics. True Combat, a mod for Quake3 did this the best that I saw. Hiding behind a wooden fence wasnt much protection against someone shooting an M-16 at you. I understand that lots of shooters couldnt need this, where the over-the-top weaponry and physics are the point. But for gods sake, any game that gives me a modern projectile weapon, I expect to be able to shoot through drywall, use the sights on the weapon, have to adjust for bullet drop.
