I hope you all got the "why don't you play outside and make new friends" line fed to you. you may try to explain that you're happy just playing games and you have enough friends, but they remain convinced that your play video games because you are sad and it affected your 'friend-getting' abilities. After all, every parent wants to see their kid be super popular and being the best in every sport.
In 2010 with facebook friends, the entire concept of "get more friends" has been undermined as completely and utterly as the Nobel Peace Prize has been undermined by Henry Kissinger's award.

I say treat video games with your parents in the same way you deal with racist old grandparents and your non-white friends... don't let them see it and they won't have an old person hissy fit.

Quite simply your mother - all our mothers - are prejudiced against video games because "it wasn't like that when I was my age" so therefore it must be evil. Quite simply, don't let them see you play it, out of sight, out of mind.
Grrrr! Please don't make assumptions about ''all our mothers'', it makes you as judgemental as the parents you accuse! (See my post a couple above this one for clarity) :)

I get one line. "You should stop that and start studying."
To which I reply, "Ok, sounds about right."

"What is that man doing to the - oh my god."

My mum - and I suspect, many other mums - watching me play Gears of War.

You can guess what was happening.

My dad sits with me sometimes and says that everything I play is the same and boring.

I was playing Fallout 3 and he said, "So what's this about?"

I told him it was set in a world after nuclear weapons had destroyed everything, and you wander the wastes trying to make your way.

He said, "But you're just wandering around doing nothing."

I said that there was nothing nearby and part of the fun was exploring.

"Well find something to do."

I tell him that there is nothing around at the moment.

"Well that doesn't look very fun."

Later on I'm playing Red Dead Redemption. "Well that's just the same, you wander around doing nothing."

"But dad, you can do quests and missions!"

"But it's all pointless really isn't it." He said.

I'm depressed now and starting to think he's right.

My parents make the occasionally comment on "why did you stay up so late gaming" but other than that they're pretty good about not talking to me about it

Dad: "why are you talking to yourself" when I'm playing with a headset online.

Mom: "Go study" she says this for everything even study breaks.

"why does it always take you 20 minutes to finish and save your game?"

nah but my mum's awesome about it. She constantly comes in and tells me that "that noob's over there camping with the noob tube. make sure you cook your nades and don't camp"
Yeah, she picks up a lot to try and be cool.

Nothing. Both Parental units play games so they leave me alone unless there is major revision or they want to use the tv

My parents tend to silently pass judgement on my games whenever they see me play them. For example, when my mom first saw me playing an FPS (and not a particularly violent one at that--I don't remember exactly what it was, though), she stared at the screen in a little bit, made a small dissatisfied noise, and left. She was also convinced for a long time that any exposure to any M-rated games before I was about 20 years old would turn me into a cop killing psychopath... despite the fact that she was constantly telling me how proud she was of my maturity.

My dad, on the other hand, is a bit more accepting. He tends to watch out of interest, not dislike, and I think he's legitimately interested in Mass Effect. Granted, the only games he's ever been interested in actually playing have been Modern Warfare 2 and Halo 3, but it's a start. (I suppose that, to be on topic, I should say that he'll ask questions about what I'm doing, and why, and all that stuff--which is a hell of a lot more fun to talk about than the fact that I'm not doing work).

You know, I've never gotten those kind of comments from my parents. Nowadays they would just look like hypocrites, since they both play WoW, and my mother has an 80 and a 70something, and my father has a 70something (they play the 70s together). My father has come in and watched before, and we occasionally play some co-op (including alot of Gears of War 2 Co-Op). My mother doesn't really like the kinds of games I do, but we both found me running down the sidewalk carrying a car in Prototype to be funny for the same reason: Thwap thawp thawp (the sound of people getting hit with a car being run down a sidewalk).
Oh dear god I wish I was you!

Back when I played CS, and then Wow, and then Dota, and then League of Legends, they would always go "Why do you always play the exact same game? Don't you get tired of it?". Since I got a PS3 that line died a bit tho, since I play more varied games.

Now its pretty much:

"Why are those games so violent?"
"Why are all games about war?"

"Stop playing those stupid games and clean your room."

"Stop playing those stupid games and clean this room."

"Stop playing those stupid games and do your homework."

"Stop playing those stupid games."

"...stupid games."

They don't care if I'm gaming or not... it's mainly the fact I've been on the computer ALL DAY XD
"go outside" is the most common one.
with which I reply "AND DO WHAT?"
"go for a walk"
"TO WHERE!?"
"... somewhere, you just need to get out of the house. Go see some friends"
-_- "I'll just go out and organise something right now ey? Yes, totally just invite myself over."

Pft, or I could just stay here and create something insane or talk to people, or game, or be generally awesome.

My dad saw my sister play FFXIII. It was a cutscene mid-way through the game

He promptly said that it was the worst movie he ever saw.
