Meh. Give it a shot if you've got trials and such. If you've got friends to play with, it's fun (in my opinion), I've always enjoyed it, and *gasp* I have a social life and I'm not overweight hahahaha. But really. It's like any other game. Use it in moderation and it can be really fun.

I tried it, and lost interest, I really don't see these 'addictive properties' people speak of.
I feel like it's worse if you have friends in game. It would be even harder to stop. Trust me i just got out and i want the last two years of my life back. Are you listening Blizzard? Thats one game, three expansions and 14.99 * (at least) 24months!

Edit: watch the 'Skinner Box' episode of Extra Credits :)

Got a free trial? Why not give it a go. If it's your thing then keep at it, otherwise, stop. It's not as though our words should have more value than your own experience with it.

DON'T YOU DARE! I just recently found a way to pull myself out of it... Sure, you'll spend tons of time. You'll probably have a lot of fun... But after a while, it loses it's flavor, but you can't just quit... Don't get like that... If you start this, you might never be able to stop. Not being silly or over-dramatic, just honest and serious. Don't play it. Enjoy actually having a life. You need something to do when you've got nothing to do? Play a normal video game. WoW isn't worth the time commitment you have to put into it. Live in the real world.

(And if anyone wants to argue with me, I played the game for years! I've spent quite a bit of money on it and invested far more time than I care to think about. I was good at it too, but finally found an excuse to leave and my life is so much better without it.)

I hear you man... That game took so much of my life and money away... So glad to be out though. I feel so much better without it.

Do what Yatzee did with Cataclysm: get the goblin-thing, get a flying mount, and then drop it like it's hot.

I suppose it's a matter of taste, but I highly advise skipping WoW.It had good Lore behind it and it's quite fun as MMO, but as game it's a bit dated. MMOs are trying to change th Genre as of late, so I reccomend staying on the fence and keep an eye on the upcoming MMOs instead.

Admitedly every game I've had my eye on so far has failed once it was released. The only ones not out yet are The Old Republic and Guild Wars 2. Guild Wars 2 looks promising and is free to play apart from buying the disk. My interest in The Old Republic has waned as of late though, but I think it's still worth checking out.

I'll be honest, I in fact would like WoW to die. So I'm a little bias. I would prefer it if they made a WoW 2 with better more innovative and interesting gameplay.

EDIT: If you get addicted to games easily the stay away from MMOs in general.

I should also mention they I played it for quite a while. I think I got to 30s or 40s level wise. I didn't really stay for the gameplay itself, mostly the Roleplay(was on a RP Server) and the playing with a few friends I made on there.

Okay, all those people who say it is "addictive" are objectivly wrong.

I played WoW for about 2 years in Classic, stopped after first addon, played second addon for a few months, played third addon for a few months. If they release another addon, I will probably play it again, if I feel like having the time.
And it is fun.
But stopping to play is no problem. You just... don't play it anymore if you don't want to play it anymore. And if you want to play it, it is probably because you are having fun, in which case WoW is a good game.

5-man dungeons are fun, raids are fun, leveling is... not as bad as in other mmorpgs. And people are hilarious.

/edit: And don't wait for other MMORPGs, every MMORPG that got hyped in the last decade that wasn't WoW sucked (at least compared to WoW, which is SO MUCH BETTER!).

/editedit: And if there is anything addictive about WoW, it is the people you meet and play with. I met the people I play and talk with ~2-10 hours every day through WoW. One of them still plays WoW and is quite happy with it. (At least he responds "Sorry can't play with you guys, gotta raid yaaaaay" when we ask him to play LoL or Terraria or Sc2 etc. with us.)

First of all dont listen to anything these guys have said. Yes you will get addicted but it is ridiculous to even compare a video game to drugs or drug addiction.

Also if you aren't an idiot about your time you won't become fat and it will not effect your social life.

If you want to try it then try it. But remember it is expensive and after awhile it'll stop being fun and start being effort.

Whatever you do ignore the over dramatization of it's "side effects".
Someone needs to take a chill pill.

Amirite?

I was in Wal-mart with one of my buddies a few years ago. We were both Wow players off and on. We were in the video game section just checking out a few new titles.

We see this kid, probably about 12 years old or so, pick up a wow box. He looked at it for awhile, but then put it back down and left.

"Dodged that bullet" my friend commented. I nodded my head in agreement.

Well, after people have been harassing me and I've been throwing them on ignore, I actually wan to play World of Warcraft. I have a free trial, a friend who threw me another trial, and a friend who told me he'd pay for the first three months.

Here's the thing, I honestly have never been able to stand WoW. I looks utterly boring and a war of clicking. However, recently I've had the urge for an MMO, but Vindictus, Dungeon Fighter, and Maple Story aren't cutting it.

Someone convince me in or out of this.
Fine, wanna drain cash into a game full of anti social gamer stereotypes who trade gold to female chars for them to strip, go ahead.

Just don't do it, let this beast die you'll most likely get bored but once you pay that first monthly sub your done. Play Guild Wars 2, it's coming out late Q4 and it looks EPIC, Tolkien's got nothing on the lore and art on that site. Take a look at Guild Wars 2 than WoW and try not to tell me that Guild Wars 2 isn't worth the wait. Just go to guildwars2.com and check out the races and classes, nothing like any other game.

I'm chill just trying to give this guy a less dramatic view of WoW.

Meh, I play WoW and I enjoy it, try it if you think you will enjoy it, or don't try it, no one is going to be able to convince you one way or another

Don't join.

There really isn't much to do anymore.
Can't raid unless you get into a super-serious raiding guild, the quests are all samey and repetitive with kill 10 of these and 25 of those while collecting 30 knick-knacks. A lot of the people are complete jerks.

The game quality has really gone downhill.

And yet I'm saying all this while tabbed out from WoW with my hunter chilling in Org.

Though to be fair, if you ignore the plot holes and retcons, Blizzard really has come up with some interesting lore and stories.

Giving the ten day trial a go. If anything, this will speed up the process of the apocalypse.

Maybe by the time I get bored Beiber will vanish from my avatar.

Okay ignoring the first posts. Try it, I too migrated from maple story and though it took a few days of adjustment I had a blast. It's really fun. And if you can control the addictive part of it responsibly, just a really well constructed game.

Good luck in your adventure.

People saying it's boring are fed up with the END game, like me. The process to that endgame is lengthy but enjoyable. So please don't rule it off, and clicking can be totally optional with some proper key binding ;)
Look online for some guides on how to do that well so you can make full use of your keyboard instead, the only thing the mouse should be used for is extra buttons/Camera position.

WoW is the least grindy MMO you can find without getting bored within a week. That is a fact, and I play/have played ALOT of MMO's to compare to. It has it's faults but they're only glaring once you've spent a few months at the end game.

I say again, try it, if only to put to rest that you gave it a shot, it's worth the money.

Personally, i find it went to the dogs after Burning Crusade.

But if i want to take a neutral standpoint yeah, give it a try. If you've played warcraft 3 then you might be won over by some nostalgia moments. Also, since the last expansion, leveling is easier than walking so if you are new to MMORPGs it might be a nice introduction. Although it is quite repetitive and boring you might find yourself staying because of other people that play.

Which isn't to say there are AMAZINGLY BETTER MMORPGS. Or maybe its just that i dislike the problems WoW has. Every MMORPG has certain problems but WoWs big ones are shitty, long, unskippable cutscenes, balance issues and the fact that its too fucking easy, and i rate these problems worse than some that other games have. Like Allods. It does have a fair few glitches but last i checked it was beta, it was challenging, and there weren't any goddam cutscenes.
