So they left us here... I guess they'll come back for us later, though there is a possibility that they won't come back. Oh well.
As he was thinking of what could happen to them, he remembered mayu being there.
"*sigh* here you are... I got lost trying to follow you. So, are you ok? Did those guys hurt you?" Said Dylan, acting somewhat like a big brother.

Mayu pouted a little bit before saying. "T-they sure hurt my pride. Not to mention my bottom. I don't think that man held back at all when he spanked me!" She buried herself under the hay again before saying. "I got away though, and even got back as much of the loot as I could carry. I gave it to Max though. He'll have to see me as a Rocket sooner or later! I won't just be a burden to him."

Caid ran alongside the rest of the group, making sure Sandy was always within eyesight. Her high of being in a good fight was soured a bit at hearing the psychic ***** call the female grunts weak little girls. She was taking on two officers by herself, and she wasn't the one who freaked out at the sight of a flame dog.

But then she grunted and looked up, looking off into the distance. At least they were getting to move on. "I'm fukkin' tired of this city."

"I'm no fan of Saffron either." muttered Max, looking back over his shoulder at the bright lights. The city was always cold and unforgiving, it had a cruel feel to it. All the richest of the rich and the corporate elite flocked to that city.

Petrel once said the boss had big plans for Saffron.

They encountered some fires left unattended by Fighting Dojo Men.

"What's happening in Saffron that they would all up and leave in such a hurry?"

Max and some of the other grunts were not slow to pilfer what was left behind. He very quickly snatched up a large bottle of vodka and stored it in one of his personal capsules.

"The Commander started a riot in the middle of town, sir. It was a stroke of genius." She nosed around the fires, picking up some of the snacks rather than booze. If the last camp was any indication, she would be ravenous when the sun set. "After we split up, we ended up in a... club." She wrinkled her nose, sitting down for a second. "When the police found us, the Commander turned the crowd against them. And then we got caught in the alley. We were doing well until... well... you now what happened next, Lieutenant."

"Alex isn't a genius, he just got lucky. Bet the punks of Saffron were close to breaking out like that anyway."

He stared at her until she stood up and they moved on.

"Besides, he was stupid enough to get caught in an alley like that. He would have had better luck going through the park."

He would have had better luck if we had camped where I wanted to.

"Maybe it would have been different if you were there Lieutenant. You're a good tactician. You found us either way, and got us out of Saffron." When they had picked the small sites clean and started to move on, she stood up again. "It looks like you had better luck getting to safety though."

A dark building framed against the moon started to loom up in the distance. "And if we only lost 2 grunts, then you did a good job of getting them all back considering the confusion."

Two grunts too many.

Max wondered when the hand of Giovanni would reveal itself. He was already anticipating a white uniformed Silver grunt appearing out of nowhere to give them their punishment. They made it to the barn without so much as a hint of a white uniform.

"I'm going to rally the troops." announced Alex, marching into the barn with the others.

"I'm going to go take a shit." Max muttered just loud enough for Alex to hear. Snaking around a corner, Max entered the farmhouse. The startled family looked at him, eyes strained from lack of sleep.

The father is a sick old man, the son the head of the family now. Only the son loves us. God knows why.

A little girl and a woman in her middle ages glared at him.

"You're the reason I can't tend to the chickens!" cried the little girl. She was almost Mayu's age.

"Shut her up before I shut her up." snarled Max halfheartedly, making his way up to the bathroom.

I should have done this at the chateau. Oh well.

Picking up a razor, Max trimmed away then carefully cut off the tuffs of blue hair attempting to grow out. When he was done he was bald again. Clean. He left the sink a mess, descending back down the stairs.

"Sir, was there anything I need to do for you?"

"You said you could heal Pokemon?"

"I have a basement full of mil-"

"Heal my team."

"At once."

Max walked back as Alex stood beaming.

"...and that's why we're going to take back Lavender for Giovanni!"

From the looks on the grunts' faces Max gathered it wasn't really well received. All of them were sober, defeated and bored. There was also the fact that almost every female grunt in the team hated Alex for obvious reasons and most of the men were scared witless thinking about what he was capable of.

"Where have you been, Lieutenant?"

"Securing some healing for our Pokemon. I assume you want to march into Lavender with Pokemon who can fight, Commander."

Alex grimaced.

"Let the Pokemon limp, makes them strong."

"Sure, but we don't have the time for that. We should be marching now."

Alex considered that for a moment.

"Heal up and march East. Now damn it!" he said, startling a nearby grunt with his bat. The threat of him beating another man down bloody got them moving again.

Sheep.

Max had stolen a hatchet from the side of the house, putting it in his capsule. The thought of having something to get rid of Alex with pleased him.

I'll bury that in his skull if I can.

He watched Alex carefully before getting in line to take his turn with the milk. After all the Pokemon were restored, Max shouted.

"MARCH! LET'S LEAVE THIS FUCKING TOWN!"

As the Rocket filed away, putting a new (and empty) saddle on the Tauros, the Rocket sympathizer came up to Max.

"Will I see a boost in my pay sir?"

"We'll see. Forget we were here. Goodnight."

Everyone walked along in the bright moonlight.

"After Lavender everyone gets booze!" a cry went up.

Mayu was more than happy to leave this place behind her. Her experiences here hadn't exactly been pleasant so marching along in the moonlight was a nice relief. Looking around, she remained vigilant and hoped that no patrols of any kind would capture them. The last thing she needed was another muscle-head spanking her again.

"Great. walking. again."
He began to march off, looking at the beautiful moon. The bug pokemon seem to make the surroundings much more interesting and beautiful. It would have been great if he weren't so tired and sleepy. "So...*yawn* where are we going again?"

"We're going to Lavender town." said Max, disapprovingly.

Honestly, didn't Alex just do a speech? Even I'd hope to give grunts more credit than that.

The soft soil became gradually rougher and rougher until great rocky faces started jutting out of the ground like teeth. They veered North, staying away from the well traveled route 8. A Vulpix in the bushes cried out angrily but was swatted away by Boris's Raticate. The walk was turning into a hike.

We should have been here hours ago.

They trundled along solemnly for the most part. Max was set between Dirk, who had been quietly marching along despite his injury and Leels. He didn't feel much like talking to either.

At least the kid isn't around me right now-

A small form brushed passed his legs and there Mayu was, walking backwards and saluting him.

Great. Just fucking great.

* * * * *

Giovanni's hand fist against the table hard. The note from the Zubat was the last thing he needed.

"PETREL!"

The weasel like man appeared before him immediately, smoothing his suit.

"Yes sir!"

"Dispatch Ridner to enforce discipline in Yellow. Alex may have his uses but I won't allow him to run amok without my orders, you hear?"

There was a flash of a smile in Petrel's eyes but it vanished as quickly as it appeared.

"As you wish boss."

He slunk away, stepping outside onto the deck of the black Rocket yacht.

"Sir... might I tell you my thoughts?" said a Rocket in the standard uniform, sitting across from Giovanni's desk. He wore a badge that shimmered white and gold in the light of the yachts lamps.

"Speak your mind Archer."

The blue headed Rocket Admin smiled, sitting forward.

"Alex may have blundered by entering Saffron and his punishment must be delivered but your intentions remain a mystery to the government. Rangers and a good number of cops still trail James and Jesse. This incident in Saffron has provoked some rioting if the messages ring true. That will make the mayor even more concerned for the safety of his city and his elite. He might even cancel transferring cops to Lavender."

He spread his arms wide.

"Whip the man, yes but you have to admit he got away without many casualties. Just two grunts?"

"Two grunts too many. Commanders must conserve their force. I'm not under any illusions Archer, I know how weak and pathetic most grunts are. Its our numbers that make my goals a reality."

There was a pause. Archer was about to speak when there was a knocking on the door.

"Boss!"

"What?" snapped Giovanni, his Persian turning to leer at the newcomer.

"Blaine has left his island!"

Ellie sat down right inside the door to the barn, taking out her pokeballs. Three revives and a few potions. She took out the Ponyta first, feeling pangs of sympathy when she saw the bite marks. It took her a few minutes for the revive to work, but it finally stood up, looking around at the other rockets for a second. Ellie looked over her one last time. "Don't worry, we'll make sure that doesn't happen again." She repeat the process with her Nidorina and the Zubat, quickly reviving them before going to get them healed.

Since she was one of the last to get in line, she was one of the last ones to leave.
"So...*yawn* where are we going again?"
Lavender...
It took her a second to remember as well. It seemed like they had taken the largest possible detour, and hit almost every piece of bad luck on the way. Maybe she was trying not to think about it. She had left Lavender without any thought. The only thing she had done was lock the house before she left. The fridge was probably rotting... the yard overgrown with weeds. If she could, she would clean it and lock it properly before they left again.
But with their luck, she probably would have no time at all.

There were angry murmurers in the ranks and Max kept an ear open.

"I hardly slept after that Belt hit me in the head. I feel awful and now there isn't any booze."

"I say we tie up Alex and leave him for the rangers."

"Yeah! Fuck the officers, it was better when we were with the Great Hooks."

Their whispers weren't as quiet or as subtle as they had hoped however. Max grabbed the nearest conspirator around the neck and made the others watch as he ripped the man's face against a rocky outcropping. Max enjoyed the screams of the grunt who was pulling uselessly at his legs.

I might have been beaten by the cops but I'm still stronger than you shitheads.

Max threw the man down against the rock after tearing his cheek open. The man scrambled to his feet, glaring at Max but didn't move a muscle more. He clutched his bloody face.

"The next man who considers breaking ranks or attacking his officer gets more than a cut up face. I'll beat you till you're unable to move. Then I'm sure Alex will want a turn."

That put an end to the mutterings. Despite some of the men hating his guts, Max remained popular. Probably because he wasn't Alex. The men were scared witless of their leader.

"Talk to Eric, he has some dressings from the Barn. If you ask nicely I'm sure you can get some."

Max noticed Ellie watching but she turned away when he looked in her direction.

She likes watching others get put in their place...

Mayu's eyes grew wide when she saw what had happened to the man talking about defecting from the team. She knew that things were rough but she didn't think it was that rough. Gulping, she decided to put a little distance from Max for now. She had no intentions of leaving the Rockets, but she did think that trying to gain Max's favor could take a small hold for now.

Idiots Ellie's mouth twitched a little as she watched the Lieutenant spill blood. It was a break from hiking for a second, and second, it was hard to look away. The grunt had been asking for it. She had heard their complaints from the back of the line. That's when his eyes momentarily landed on hers. She lowered her gaze out of respect and submission, instead staring at Mayu, who had backed up a considerable amount for having just been stuck to the Lieutenant for the past few miles. She must have been the kid that the Commander had a fancy for the other day...

"How long have you been a Rocket, girl?" she asked Mayu, taking out a cigarette.

Mayu looked behind her when she heard a voice, and when she saw that it was one of the older females, she smiled and said. "Only a few weeks, but I'm going to do my best to live up to the Team Rocket name!" She smiled proudly and said. "I even swiped some of the loot back from those muscle-heads and gave them to Max! I think he still sees me as an irritation, but I'll prove myself to him soon!" She, of course, kept quiet about the circumstances before her swiping the loot.

Well, that's interesting Leela thought to herself as the grunt's face soon became similar to sandpaper. After that small intermission in her thought process, she went back to walking along. She hadn't walked this much since her father's company picnics and the like. Her thoughts were taken back to reality again as one of the other female grunts started chatting up the kid.

I think he still sees me as an irritation, but I'll prove myself to him soon!"

"Right, kid," She said, speeding up a bit and tousling Mayu's hair,"I'm sure you'll get to be an asset here eventually."

"Name's Leels, Smokes, anything you'd rather be called? You froze up over a couple dogs, right?" she extended her hand, in the "proper" way, palm facing downwards, parallel to the ground, pinkie slightly out from the rest of the hand.

"I think you're irritating him." She lit her cigarette, taking a few breaths before talking again. It was kind of funny: the extent to which this girl vexed him. "You did well getting the loot back. But don't look for praise. You aren't going to get it. Good Rockets don't need to 'prove themselves'. If you need to ask if you're useful, you aren't. Okay?" How this girl got in the Rockets in the first place was still a mystery, but she was here now. She wasn't about to coddle her like everyone else though. Honestly, it was like this girl was the Team Yellow mascot.

"Name's Leels, Smokes, anything you'd rather be called? You froze up over a couple dogs, right?"
"My name is Ellie. And if I froze up over a couple dogs, I wouldn't be here right now, would I? Seeing as Growlithes seemed to be the only pokemon in that town..." She paused again to blow out a cloud of smoke, pretending to not notice the woman's outstretched hand. "It was an Arcanine that had just torn through my whole team, and every other pokemon nearby, with its teeth. If you've made up your mind about me, I won't bother to try and change your opinion."

Mayu giggled happily when Leels ruffled her hair and told her that she was going to be an asset eventually. Smiling, she said. "What do you mean eventually? I'm an asset already! I just have to get the others to see that."

She then turned to Ellie, who had said that she shouldn't look for praise, and that good Rockets didn't need to prove themselves. She knew that Ellie had a point, so she nodded and said. "Okay, I'll do that then. I really don't wanna irritate the Boss, so I'll back away some from now on. But a little praise every now and then would still be nice.

"If you've made up your mind about me, I won't bother to try and change your opinion."

"Ooooo,"Leela said, withdrawing her hand,"You're cold aren't you? Haven't really made up my mind about anyone but Alex here yet, so everyone's still out of the boardroom right now on that."

"I just have to get the others to see that."

"Sure kid, we'll see later."
