I've been bullied plenty. I'm better at ignoring it than most people. I carried on talking to my friend(only one at the time) and actually forgot they were there. Truth be told, I found it a little amusing how hard they were trying to get to me.

It's not so much a psychical trait but more of a personality defect:

I'm the quiet girl. Apparently this labels me a mass-murderer as my overzealous classmates insist I'm keeping a "list." It would be so tempting. Doesn't help with my less than impressive conversational skills. But to the point - because of this constant influence in my life I now have such a bad inferiority complex that I find it hard to believe that anyone would genuinely like to talk to me or spend time with me. Even family. As such, I avoid people. Go figure.

Doesn't help that numerous of my teachers have tired to figure out "what's wrong with her." As apparently trying to focus on your work is a bad thing. So far they've considering my being depressed, suicidal, shut-in, "slow," and just plain stupid. Thank you, educational system, for assuming my good grades are just a flunk. Does wonders for already non-existent confidence.

It's annoying when people insist something is wrong with you because you don't fit in their little box of cookie cutouts.
Been there. The lack of confidence thing really ain't fun. I spent most of my elementary school years as the class punching/kicking/batting bag and being ignored by adults, which did wondrous things to my self-image. It's painful, but it can be overcome.

It took me living on my own for a couple years, well away from pretty much everyone I knew, to really get me over it. I'm still rather quiet around people I don't know well, and while I no longer make a point to avoid people, I don't seek them out either. That said, I'm much more secure with myself and who/what I am.

My best advice is do your damnedest to not to let what people think bother you. The majority of the time, when people try to demean you, they're just trying to call attention to themselves, or judging you on stereotypes. If you know they're full of shit, then you know they're just idiots, almost universally not worth listening to.

I know it ain't much solace, but it's what worked for me.

What also helped, believe it or not, was WoW. I feel rather silly saying this, but WoW really, really helped me in the social skills and confidence department. I got into it right before I went off to college, and getting to know people and interacting with them over the internet, where they have no choice but to get to know you for you, really helped my confidence and self-image.

Best of luck dealing with it, I know just how hard that kind of thing can be.

If you're academically inclined, work your ass off, and get in a nice university/college. Generally, places of higher learning are free of ignorance, but certain individuals within these institutions will not be. Most of the people there will be, and it should be easy to avoid those who don't. If you aren't as academically astute, but you have skill in an art or a craft, such as wood, metal, cooking, drama, etc, train to be the best in your skill and you will make it far. And if you have none of the above traits, simply find something you like, and find a way to make money out of it. For example, if you love swimming, become a swim coach. The key in life isn't money, it's happiness. For some it may lie in money, but all people can find something they like, and make a living out of it. Don't worry to much about what happens now, because as soon as you graduate high school, you're free to leave.

As for religion, the problem in religion is not physical discrimination, (as said by a number of people in this topic, shouldn't have happened) but is that religion creates a lifestyle that all people must fulfill. Whoever doesn't fulfill said lifestyle is considered pagan, and therefore is a "bad" person. In reality, morality is and should be decided by each person individually, and not as a group. For example, if God or the people who wrote the bible said killing was right, would it be?

My eyes turned red when I started smoking pot. Everyone looked at me funny but I just burst out laughing at them, I... couldn't really do much else.

But seriously I used to have a friend in school with similar eye condition to you (her right iris was red and a little of some other colour which escapes me right now) and no one really said anything to her. Apart from another friend of mine who used to wind her up all the time, only because he fancied her. Strange what people do to show their affection...

There you go, just think of it as them showing affection to you...?

Oh, I have another one!
I let it slip that I draw manga in class. Big mistake, because every 5 minutes, someone asks me to draw porn for them. That gets irritating FAST.

i guess im the weird person in school, i read a lot, which according to most people in my class makes me stupid(i still don't get that) i sit at lunch with 1 other person, we have been "friends" since 5th grade, but all we do is sit at the table, we don't talk much from a sentence or 2.women (girls) are not interested in me. i don't have any friends that i could call friends. and for some reason i am made fun of for having long hair and wearing my jacket strangely (i don't put my arms through the sleeves and i just drape it over my shoulders) and really, im the ONLY hard-core gamer in the school. and to top it all off i got 2 D's 1C and 1 B on my last report card ):

they are missing out on how awesome you are.
I can't believe people would MOCK (instead of praise) you for having odd EYE COLORS.
For God's sake its just eye colors ._.
Surely they have something better to do.
The mentioning of your parents being banned from Church also make it sound like you are residing at a backward community.

Having red eye color should be unique... people are douches.

I regularly had the shit kicked out of me in primary school because of my english accent. I got big, and my mates helped, and it stopped. However, from then on, I was very quiet except around my friends, so people thought I was wierd. They gave me shit for that, and because I was big and they thought I was afraid of them because I ignored them. Most stopped, because I'm actually quite funny, and apparently likeable. The one guy who kept going on only stopped when I punched him in the face.
In short, people are arseholes for the most part, and having the simple bad luck to be born where you are and with the red eyes has just given you much less chance of fitting in than most people who are different. That your parents do that to you though, I don't mean to offend, but when you can leave, do it, and don't go back.
you punched him..?bwhahahahahha

I would've taken advantage of the people from your church and walked in every day saying satanic things, thus scaring them away =D

I'm not tired of being the "weird person".

Try: Good Manners, Tolerance and Avoidance in that order.

An acceptance that the world is imperfect, that life is neither a gift or a curse - just some state of existence and set of experiences which will, ultimately, not last forever, so you may as well wait it out. Engagement, self-improvement, socialization are optional responsibilities which may involve increased struggle. Just do enough to survive and cultivate a private passion - e.g. read a classic novel, take up yoga...

Some years ago i had a really bad case of whats in america called "pink eye". In my case it was so bad that you couldnt see any white in the eyes at all, i was extremely sensitive towards light and it felt like someone had stabbed me in the eyes with 2 extremely cold forks. So i were somewhat grumpy, and this is the time my boss at work came to the conclusion that i made it all up and just were lazy, and tried to have me fired.
Well as i had papers from several doctors that tried to cure me, the union came to my defense, everybody blamed everybody , and in the end my boss sold the place where we worked to the rival company ...who stopped produktion and fired everybody.

I am not saying that i am to blame for the outcome ....rather that my boss is and idiot.

...And in the end, i learned to embrace my wierdness.....oh ,and after 2 years of treatmen and some laser surgury, my eyes are better now...

If I had those red eyes for my red hair, it would be awesome. I doubt anyone at my school would think of it as demonish, but it would be cool for Hollyween.

Well I went to a small private school for grades 3-8. So anything you do haunts you for years siunce you have the same 32 classmates every year. Yes, I was the weird guy, but the worst time was when Napolian Dynamite came out. Everyone said Im looked like him and everyone assumed I could dance, hunt wolverines, owned nunchucks, like to draw, etc. All I needed was a "Vote for Pedro" shirt. I'm so glad that craze was over by the time high school started for me.

It's reasons like these that I left the Church. From the outset, churches can look like places of God, where everyone loves and respects you. It could not be any less true. People turn their love for God in stupid, sometimes even terrifying ways. In this case your parents and church have essentially "banished" you away from their religion, since red eyes apparrantly go against their beliefs. I am disgusted. this is no different then when the churches used to o on witch hunts and burn innocent women to show their "love" for the "holy" god.

I can tell you this. I don't mean to get all religious or anything. But if people actually had brains inside their skulls, they would know that God loves all, no matter what they look like. Red eyes are just as nice as anything else. You need to remember that. Thank you for sharing your story. It has opened my eyes further as to how sick the world still is.
