When I'm roleplaying, like in my serious Morrowind accounts, I'll come up with a serious name (sometimes even fitting to the lore or race) but when I'm using a cheat account or just plain old bored I'll come up with something like theguywhogoesaroundfuckingpeople'sanuses or HURR I DONT KNOW YOUR NAME just to get some boring-amusing responses from NPCs.

I recently started playing Ass Creed 2, I was given the option to name... I guess it's my save file? Anyway, they prompted by to name it Desmond, as in Desmond Miles, the bland dude from the future I'm supposed to be. Anyway, I decided to name him Douchemond, which made me giggle probably a lot more than it should have. Later, whenever any character would say Desmond's name I would, out loud, say: "No, my name is Douchemond". This also caused me to giggle far more than it should have. Thus ends my pointless anecdote about naming characters.

I tend to stick with the default. In Mass Effect, my character is Jane Shepard (which was the default name suggested by the game).
In ME, my character was named "Miranda," because I'd watched Serenity recently. Got amusing in ME2.

I think my male Shep was just the default, though.

I pretty much always use the name "Rabidiah," a fairly obvious play on the word "rabid" and the name "Jebidiah." I have an odd fascination with rabies, and hey, the name Jebidiah is cool, so it works.

If I get to choose my character's gender, I name the character Kimmy. If it's default male (ie: Legend of Zelda), I use Stigwoe, or more accurately: Stigwoe Von Pawsyfuzz Tabarnack Rassenkrieg SPAM SPAM Eggs SPAM Togglebottom and it goes on like that for a while. It's written down on a Dungeons and Dragons character sheet somewhere in my apartment. It consists of approximately fifty words.

I normally go with the default name because when I have to think of one on my own I always just name the character after a trait or a different character. In persona 3 I ended up naming MC Oz Rigel, I love names with Zs in them for some reason and since his hair is blue like the star Rigel.

Except for Final Fantasy I'm always my real name. For some reason I was never comfortable with my own name in a Final Fantasy game, no clue why.

Usually I stick with the given name unless it's a series where the character is more of a blank slate. Notably Legend of Zelda and Pokemon, where I go with ether my name or a character from another RPG. Like Isaac from Golden Sun or something.

It varies, depending on my mood. I occasionally name people "Sup" or "Sup Dawg" if the game will let me, to make things more amusing.
"Sup Dawg, We need your help!"
I also occasionally use "I say" or "My dear fellow" if there are enough characters available in the name slot.

I usually go with Jack for the first male and Jazz for the first female. In playthroughs after that I get creative.

[small]*Looks shiftily at 'Professor Dicknibble'*[/small]

But when I play Legend of Zelda, I leave it as Link.

His horse is called Muffin, though.

I use 'Asscunt' or Pissflaps' for the first character, then my own name for my 'do everything in the game 100% complete' run.

Why the hell is the thread called 'Titty Shepard'? o_O?
And on-topic, I usually have a range of names available, for both males and females, depending on my mood.
I'd imagine because that's what the OP names his Shepard.

If a singleplayer game, Kerrigan (Because it's always taken for some reason on Multiplayer), and on Multiplayer, it will be something to do with the periodic table.
