I had two possible outcomes when seeing "Titty Shepard"
1) A person who shepards herds of wild breasts
2) A female Shepard from mass effect who is unnaturally well endowed

I was a little disappointed.

OT: I generally name characters "Hydros" but it doesn't really fit many settings so I'm thinking of new names to use. In games where the character already has a name I'll leave as is most of the time, but in pokemon I will always name the rival something stupid like newfag or some such thing to make it more amusing.

On my last FF7 playthrough, I called everyone old names, for example Roger, Bertram, Betty, Mildred etc. Gave a classic baroque feel to the game. Next game I play thgouh though, I will likely subsrcibe to the unskippable logic and call people things like "a fool", "an emo" etc. Games that only have 1 character I usually pick a random name, so my Sheppard's are called Siouxie and Carmella (I had just been watching the Soppranos)

For the old FF games I would call them all the same thing, or names that reflect their personality. But in Pokemon I like to give them all human names, theres just something funny about calling your Charizard 'Dave'.. or Stevo or Big Kev.

Sometimes I give them real names, but sometimes I name them Asshole.
My friend did that with his Fallout 3 Character. It was hilarious.

"Your mother and I have been thinking. What do you think about:

Asshole

That's a good name, don't you think? Fits you perfectly!"

Pandora is my standarn name in current rpg's. I think it's pretty good, and doesn't seem to out of place in either fantasy or sci-fi rpgs, so. If I would for some reason play a guy then I usually pick Jeremy. That name always stuck with me when I read the comic Zits for the first time.

When I play pokémon I always name my character Jasmine, though. Don't know why, habit? :p

I use my own name almost 100% of the time, just another way to make me feel a bit more immersed :)

My real name is a bit dull so I don't often use it. I guess the better way to put it is that it just doesn't fit into most settings. "Joseph" just doesn't sound like a name you'd see in Tameril for example.

Often, I just leave the character name alone. Unless no option is given, in which case I use one of many names I use - Greeves and Baddeth are prime examples.

Although once, back in the day, my cousin sent me a copy of FFIX, sadly it was in French so I had no idea what was going on - but I gave those characters some pretty interesting names I must say.

I name characters after original characters from my other stories. Since I have a lot of those I'm not going to run out of names any time soon.

I name them one thing, just so it'll be topical when I shout...

ALL HAIL LORD CARNAGE!
Woot! CGR!

OT: I normally chose the Canon names, use my username, or my normal name...sometimes I'll be funny...specially in Disgaea...When a Level 400 Mage slamming Giga Star's name is Jesuslick, you give him respect.

i go through what i like to call "phases"

my current name "phase" would now be Catinks (pronounced: Cat - Tinks)i picked this up after hitting random a couple of times in WoW (which i now no longer play) it originally was Catanks or something along the lines of that, but after some modification it looks nice and its fairly unique, hell ive only had to modify it once because it was taken before me some how...
well, that one is usually for male characters, for girl characters i go for Catinka, something a bit more feminine i think....

I once had a character on WoW called "Ballsac". Created him on an RP server to see how long it would take for some humourless bastard to complain. Had it about a day then returned to find they had changed my name to something daft like "Rhinelmrum"... Needless to say, I never returned to him!

More recently me and a mate were playing Fallout 3 and created a badass Hispanic nutter named "Reckless Abandon" who beats anything she meets to a bloody pulp with nothing but her bare hands.

The only one's that I have played with this feature are Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Mass Effect and Chrono Trigger.
I didn't make use of it through Chrono Trigger as I liked the names enough, and I tend to call my Fallout characters "Duke Nukem", "Caleb" or "Dante" (Depending if I want to be good, or just be a dick) and I re-named the default "John Shepard" from Mass Effect to "Adrian Shepard" (Congratulations if you get the reference!)

I name my characters K(insert random 3 digit number here), Kommando, Revenant, Steven, or the intended use of that character for team-based single player RPGs (ex: Tank, DPS, etc...).
