Yes they are. That's literally what they were designed to do. You may not use them for that now, but as machines, they were designed solely with the intention to kill.

Now, to answer the OP, i'm glad that guns here in the UK are, for the most part, illegal. It makes it harder even for criminals to get guns when the market isn't flooded with firearms anyway, hence knife crime is more common here than gun crime, regardless of what The Daily Mail would have people believe, and in no way is UK gun crime comparable to that of the US.

Frankly, there is no need for any civilian to have a device intended to kill another. Many would simply be tempted to use it.

Haha, nicely put.

But no, I did a few years in Army Cadets when I was a teenager, fired a whole bunch of things up to and including the scaled down (in size, same calibre) version of what the real British Army use so I've got 'the gun thing' out of my system.

My dad owns three guns so we can own them, its just not a right.

To make guns illegal is stupid, but to restrict sales in some way is needed.

America has a hell of a deathcount every year because people are allowed to carry handguns. I understand you're 'right to protect yourself', but you can do just as good with a baseball bat.
Everything else has been said before: its harder to commit crimes with gun if its harder to get a gun.
deathcount by handgun 11.000 a year.
and probably some other stuff I am to lazy to add

I think there's simply no way for an American to comprehend how much the rest of the world disagrees with their gun laws.

I'm sorry but I'm convinced you really don't get it.

If the rest of the world would be allowed to vote for you the Republicans would be left with no seats as well I wager. But your 'lefties' are nowhere near left enough, what you call democrats is still extreme right half the world over... So maybe some small currently insignificant party would win?

Doesn't America have one of the highest gun crime rates of all countries?

No thank you.

The only thing I want is the right to hurt anyone who breaks into my house and not get arrested. Britan has some truly retarded laws...

God, you are thick. Can't understand half what you have written. Maybe instead of spending so much time on gun awareness, you will take an english class. But what can one expect from Ggeorge W. Bush (a biggest hillbilly ever).

Let's see. I have no idea what the gun laws are here in Finland. There is a way to get them, for my step father had a cabin full of rifles and shotguns. But then again, he was a hunter. There have been a couple of high profile shootings in the past couple of years and I think they were commited with a legaly obtained hand guns. So I guess we are allowd to have them.
(As far as jumping through verious hoops goes, I ask you, what's the difference? What does one loose, if he can't get a legal gun in his hand right away?)

From my standing point, there is no good reason for me to own a gun. I live in a relatively crime free contry. If someone were to mug me, it'd propably be either bare handed or with a knife. I have hardly ever even heard of anyone toating around with a gun in public.
Same with break-ins. Guns are a rare occation when it comes to those.

If I had to guess, I'd say that this situation is mostly contributed to the fact that we don't have that many guns in circulation, legal or illegar, and thus they appear a lot less often.

This is how I see my own situation.

Do you wish you all had the legal authority to own a firearm? Or do you believe America has been completely irresponsible with it?

I like how Switzerland does it. You join the military and you get to keep your rifle in case you are called back in to duty.
No, no one has the right to have firearms except police and military forces.

And Switzerland has the highest rate of gun crime compaired to any nation or highest murder rate with guns in any nation. Something along those lines.

If you study Criminal Justice you'll find gun control does very little in America to curb gun violence why? Unlike other countries guns flow freely and everywhere in America it would be impossible to take them out the same odds of wanting to have zero guns in America would be the same chance as the people who want to kick out every illegal person in America would be impossible.

However much like public transportation in Europe if America started control before it got to the levels it is today it would be much easier, Why you can take a train from Germany to France easily,But finding a easy way from one state to another with cheap public transportation is tough to do.

I just remembered something I have to point out to Mr. hypothetical fact. In the U.S your self defense trial will go worse if you aimed at a "non vital" spot compared to a "lethal" one. "Why is that?" you say. If you shoot in a "non lethal" place the defence can say you were attempting to prolong the attacker's suffering. The same goes for tasers and batons here in the U.S, but what do I care? I'll still shoot to kill if the time ever comes.
Sure you already know, But in the US most every cop if you ask them will tell you in the court and with police there is the unwritten rule of,"Your house is your castle" It shouldn't prove to hard depending what state you live in to get off of defending your house.

More so if your defending your family,No jury will hang a man who was acting in the same way they would to protect their wife and kids. Just more support for your facts as well.

That's not really an argument against gun control, its just an argument against properly enforcing it. If Americans are going to be too stupid to give up their killing tools let them go for it. I hope they just realise everyone in the (western) world is laughing at them.

You talking about Sweden or Switzerland? Or maybe both do that.

However. I think everyone should have the right to carry a weapon.
To protect themselves, to protect others, to protect their country from foreign and domestic threats.

Americans were given guns so that they could, if they needed to, overthrow their own government. But Americans, like many other countries, have started to LIKE and RESPECT the government. WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU DO THAT? THE GOVERNMENT ALWAYS FUCK THINGS UP! THEY ARE YOUR ENEMY!

Sadly enough the government is a necessary evil. But guns is a good way to keep that evil from getting to powerful.

But easy access guns also tend to fall into the hands of the wrong people. There is a lot of the wrong people out there.

A kid in my school got expelled, came back in a couple of days later and started fighting everyone he could. Got in trouble for having a knife, though he didn't use it.

I don't think that would've gone much better if Britain had guns.

I agree,But the support isn't there really I mean there is enough guns floating around it would be impossible to enforce it. You can pick up a hand gun for 20$ in most big cities it is kind of like the drug problems all countries face. True you could "outlaw" them but many people already stash illegal guns away. It's a common issue of why people end up breaking their parole or probation by having guns when they are a convicted felon.

I think the mindset of the average American and the fact people already keep unregistered and easily attainable guns means trying to remove every gun in America from every non military person would be a low chance. Not to mention the headache of all the "militia" groups in the back woods who would try to start a "revolution" over the issue. If America started harsher regulations of gun sells 100-200 years ago it would be able to control the flow I think much easier.

Plus really you think the average person in America can tell you where Finland is? Fact is sadly American Media focuses if your lucky 60 seconds a day on world affairs as world politics and events means so little in America Media sadly. I have to read the BBC for coverage to know about what is happening globally. So doubt many will care of Iceland's thoughts on American life again sadly.

P.S The real question is not why America has so many guns and how to take them out. But why we rank at the top for gun related crimes and how to prevent fire arm deaths. Where other countries like Canada have a high population of guns but few gun related crimes.

So I think finding out why America has such a high amount of gun crime should be the real question not the taking the means but finding the motive of the problem.

Edit:P.P.S I always thought American/Euro hate and like pride was a weird thing too, I mean true the lowest average is idiots everywhere. But just because someone is in America doesn't mean it is by choice.I was born in Liverpool and live in the US and think after visiting UK you have idiots and in the US you have idiots too.
