yes, we convert sand into oil... and turn it back into sand, sans oil. Very harmful to the environment. That sand needed oil! Carbon dioxide has absolutely no proof of causing global warming. I love how 30 years ago our emissions were supposedly gonna cause a new ice age cause the temperature dropped a degree. Now that its up a degree, we're obviously all gonna burn. Ice shelves melt because of polar shift. I'm not saying that global warming doesn't exist cause god knows we're fudging up this planet bad, but the actual proof is far underweighed of the maniacal speculation (I'm talking to you, Gore! Your graphs obviously showed that Co2 raised with heat, not vice versa!)

Um, we never banned guns. We have way more guns per capita than the U.S. We started a bungled gun registry system, thats it. I dunno where you got that quote, but I guarantee you it didn't come from anyone with any real power. Could be crazy dave from down the street if you don't reference.

And then saying we're gonna give chicks free breast implants and stupid shit like that because your government did? Um, we're not you. Our womens boobs are already at a satisfactory level and we don't sit around thinking that bigger boobs will solve all our problems like americas superficial attitude. Our national health care doesn't cover cosmetic surgery, dentistry, or psychiatry, just life saving and basic medical care. Sooooo... nuh uh again.

But other than that, sure we got some wackos. They're just far more boring than the american ones

I'm not really that patriotic to be honest. I do think that Canada has the potential to do some great things, but it seems like we're not progressing in any way...

I mean seriously, we essentially have 3 different liberal parties. The coalition is just a lame version of what they should have done long ago and agreed on a set of ideals that they all push forward during election time. It can't be that hard, since the Liberals, NDP and green party more or less fit together like a set of those russian dolls that go up each others asses or something. Also, why the bloc? Who cares, seriously? Just pretend you respect Quebec as a nation.

Maybe we need to bomb someone or make movies about how awesome we are or develop our military more and start flexing it. What ever Canada needs to do to get noticed, we need to do it fast.

What's Ignatieff planning to do? Life long education? PAH! What do adults need to learn! You automatically reach enlightenment at the age of 27 anyway. Besides, a focus on education would only make Canadians smarter, and that's fucking stupid.

At least he's willing to pour more money into the military. Then instead of peacekeepers, we can be peace rapists. We can go from lovable syrup guzzling lumberjacks to magnificent arian renegades and alien exterminators, wearing sunglasses regardless of the fact that it's almost perpetually night. Paying strippers who dance in the face of evil just before we blow them to kingdom come for their sins.

So I say we should vote for lord Ignatieff. He hasn't failed us in the past, and his plans for global domination are joyous indeed.

For the original poster:

I think it is pretty good of him to be able to get over half of them. Of course he forgot the midwest existed. Aside from Texas, but it is pretty hard to miss something that big and full of itself. He did get almost all the ones that should matter to him, all but two that border Canada, unless you count the ones across the lakes from each other. Then we have three more on top of that.

I have meet people here in the States that can not even name half the states, let alone their own state capital. I mostly get Seattle as the capital of Washington State (when they get it wrong). When I say it is Olympia, I usually get something along the lines of "Oh yeah thats why they have the capital building there."

As far as Canada goes: I know that for no good reason Quebec likes to speak French (sadly I can do a passable job with this language), and has a minority that wants to be free from the oppressive Canadian goverment as much as Texas wants to be free of the US. Except Quebec has actually put it to vote, Texan weenies just like to bring it up from time to time.

I know that Nobody actually wants to live in the top half of Canada, like nobody really wants to live in Alaska, which is kinda pretty during the summer month. This causes me to remember only the Yukon (cause its by Alaska) and the Northwest Territories (cause its actually not the most Northwest Territory). And that third one that hangs out by Hudson Bay.

There is also British Columbia, I know that one because of all the license plates on those jumbo RV's that cut me off all summer. Oh and cause of the accents on the hitchhikers I pick up on 101 all the time, eh? I usually drive right by Port Angeles when I am on that road so I will gladly give them a lift back. Then there is Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Manitoba, the frenchies already got a mention, Newfoundland, Prince Edwards something or other, Nova Scotia, and Geez, there is another. New Brunswick.

You got Mounties in funny red outfits. Lots of snow. Tell the US that we are abusing our land and need to be more eco-friendly then when oil gets up in price a bit are willing to gouge up tons of forest lands to turn some sand into oil, and at the same time building the infrastructure for one of the most polluting industries Canada has to date.

You ban guns then when that does not magically make guns disappear, your goverment (well the local one that is) decides the US is purposefully supplying the criminals in your area with guns, because the US goverment wants to (oh this is good) "subvert their gun control policies in order to press their agenda on the rest of the world." They issued condemnations on the US goverment for supplying guns to them, even pointing to the non existent campaign of the US goverment to supply guns to Mexico (which has been parroted by people as high up there as Clinton, yeah the women one).

I also know they have free health care, but I have some issues with that kind of health care system. Not that I do agree you should deny someone life saving health care because they are low on money... Well the US military is a good example, allowing breast enlargement surgery to be paid for by the government because of a shrinks recommendation that it will restore the self esteem of the airman (er, airwomen) in question. I like bigger boobs (unless they are the gravity defying fake as can be variety) as much as the next guy, but do I really think my tax dollars should be spent on giving some women I am never going to meet a bigger set? Hell no. And those kinds of abuses will happen under totally socialized health care, there is not way around it.

Oh man this is turning political. I like Canada, pretty country, mostly laid back people. But as the above goes to show you they have the same problem we have here a few wackos going out of their way to make the rest of us look bad.

Our universal health care system does not pay for cosmetic surgery, or even dental work. There have been a few highly controversial cases where sex change operations were payed for by the health system under the excuse of ending depression, suicide, etc in the patient, but its not likely those excuses will fly again any time soon.

lol green party doesnt count, they don't even have 1 elected official (do they?). NDP are eco-nazis, and I actually like the liberal party a bit (and I'm albertan!). However, until the liberals can get a decent frontman (dion was laughable at best, and ignatieff was his second fiddle) they're gonna have to sit on the sidelines.

Way to try to spin half of what I said, Mr. Takes Everything to Personal.

I never mentioned a thing about Global Warming, your brought that up. I personally do not think carbon emmission have enough of an effect to be the sole cause of GW. I think it has more to do with the sun then anything else. That said I do not think that is a reason to go tearing up the countryside, and building highly polluting industries ALL THE WHILE condeming others for it. Thats the point - the hypocrisy.

I should have made it clear that Canada as a country never banned guns. The US never did as well, but you cannot own a gun in the nations capital (which by the way has the highest rates of violent crime in our nation, rates that rise separate of the rest of the nations trends, despite everything they have done to try to curb that trend so that they can still continue to say gun control works). That was not the real quote, but the same thing was said by a city level politician. I saw it in a Canadian newspaper, the article was linked to by a US paper. I tried to find the article, but it was a few years ago, and I am having trouble. I will look again and update if I find it.

Last your health care system. People have no reason to not to try and abuse the system. So it will be abused, and has. You say it was only for life threatening stuff, yeah keep telling your self that. Most recognized abuse is that people are not going to regulate themselves to just possible life threating problems. They are going to head down to the clinic for every sniffle, and every slight pain. They are going to flood the hospitals in attempts to get pain killers, and other drugs to abuse. They are going to try and get frivolous procedures done that they have little to no need for. Costing the doctors time and as an extension the goverment more money. People are people, and unless it costs them something they are going to abuse a system. I saved the worst problem with socialized health care for last. The people now making the decisions on acceptable health care solutions are the same people you cannot even trust to read a 200 page document with country wide consequences before signing it into law.

So yeah I still back what I said.

I'll be honest though I don't know much about Canada. It's one of the largest countrys,It was once ruled by France and Great Britian. It uses the metric system (I think). It's America's Northern neighbor. It has good bacon and free healthcare.

Is that a lot? No. Is it enough for an American like myself? For now yes.

I didn't take anything personal, was just pointing out facts. The global warming thing was my own little rant :p As far as the health care system problems are concerned, we do indeed have an elderly population that abuses the free medical care system. So does yours (medicaid). And I'd have been more worried about having a president for 8 years who couldn't read "Green eggs and ham" let alone 2 war declarations. Who are these illiterate people making health care decisions, may I ask? Not trying to get into a fight, just a friendly debate :D

indeed metric is our system of choice, although we use mostly imperial for height and weight. just makes sense to use base 10 measurements, as opposed to weird 12/16/28 measurements

this is turning mostly into what people know about Canada (I guess since America has been talked about SOOOOOOO much already)

so here's what I know about America :

In the American road system, left turns are illegal under any circumstances. This is why so many shootings occur in America.

One of their most respected public figures, Bill O'Reilly, has lead the way in modern philosophy since 1902. His expansion on existentialism forced some of the most brilliant thinkers to rethink the way they think.

America started and ended world war three on the same day.

American scientists have made some of the biggest leaps and bounds in the area of hot sauce research and development, producing some of the most dangerously hot hot sauce to date.

I heard they also invented freedom, and later transferred that freedom into fry form

That right there, was all I was saying.

The system will be abused without adequate determent not to. You have to pay for abusing something in some way before you (well the people, not you specifically) are not going to attempt it anymore.

I didn't mean to imply illiteracy was common among your politicians, I just know that politicians actually caring enough to read everything they are voting on are rare, in fact pretty much non existent. They tend to just read a summery and vote for whatever they thing people want based on polls, or tow the party line. These same people are going to appoint the people, and make policies that guide the health care system. Look at the debacle they made of the NHS in Britain. You can cite hundreds of reports of doctors having their hands tied by the system force to use less expensive treatments, or sometimes relatively ineffective treatments first. Worst cases are of drugs being pulled from use for nothing other then a bit of public outcry that is completely unfounded. I think Canada has a much better socialized health care system then Britain, as you can see I found a hundred times more cases of abuse, and idiotic problems with their health care system then I found with Canada's. Nothing is perfect, I just think there needs to be doctors making up treatment schedules, and managers need to stay out of it.

In fact that is probably the worst gift the US has given the world. The thought that it only takes knowing how to be a manager to be an effective manager in any field. How stupid can you get? It takes much more then that, especially knowledge of the field you are working in. How can I tell you how to properly spend your time building homes if I know nothing about process. How can I decide the proper materials to use? The most effective sequence, the best layout of supplies?

Their like.. our closet right? We stick stuff up there we don't want to keep, but don't want to throw away.

No, seriously, ask me about an interesting place like the UK, Australia, etc and I can give you some information. Asking about Canada is like asking about The Republic of Djibouti.

Uh huh... the second largest country in the world, your closest neighbor with the most relaxed sovereign borders, and the 8th most powerful country in the world... no wonder every country hates yours, its filled with so many ignorant, self important people as you. Why do you think your tourist board suggests all americans wear canadian flags when traveling abroad? It's ok tho, you guys keep consuming and we'll keep supplying you like the rest of the world, making us rich off of your dying carcass of a country
