I've got to be quite honest, I'll gladly trade away those crates for other items in a heartbeat. I never quite liked the random aspect of it, you could get something awesome or you could get a bald Scout hat or yet another Bonk! energy drink. I just like knowing what I'm going to get before I pay money on it, in my opinion.Soylent Bacon said:Yeah, I made this comment when the Mann-conomy update was fairly new. Crates can be traded, and maybe they always could be. I could've misread "You cannot craft this item" as "You cannot craft or trade this item," or it could've been updated.SlainPwner666 said:I got a crate like you, and was told I'd have to buy a key for it. However, I was able to trade it for a Axtinguisher and Crit-A-Cola just fine. Maybe I was before or after some update? I dunno really.Soylent Bacon said:I do enjoy the update, and I don't think Valve is screwing us over
...but there is this crafty little feature they put in to try to get your money:
In the item drop system, you might get a box. This box has an item in it. You don't know what it is, but there is a list of about 10-15 items, and you are told that the item will be one of those.
Some are hats.
Some are new weapons.
This box most likely has something good, and curiosity is urging you to open it...but you need a key. This key will not drop for free, though. You need to buy it for $2.49.
You cannot trade or craft the box, and you cannot trade for a key. You can buy the key for only $2.49 and find out what's in the box, delete the box, or leave it in your backpack forever, constantly intriguing you with its mystery...
Good news though, in case you didn't hear: Keys are tradable now too (though I'm sure the people who paid for them are not letting go of them easily).
