I know. I love the sword. I am just worried it will become something similar to Dante's scythe in Dante's Inferno. It'd be cool, but it'd be a bit tedious, and no one wants to see DmC become God of War: Hades May Cry. Though I am sure they can leave out the Quick Time Events and whatnot.
Im hoping the sword is something the player can alter depending on their play style.
i love the idea of Grappling an opponent with it and forming the blade again to smash them into the ground.
I dobut that there will be any QTEs, or at least i hope not.
I also don't want to see them make you hold down a button to have range attacks, normal attacks, and heavy attacks, just like Heavenly Sword. If the story was as good as HS, I would gladly play this game.
Never played HS....but they made you do that?
Id rather separate buttons for each but that they can be used in conjunction to pull of special moves.
Yeah, to do range moves you had to hold down either R1 or L1 and the attacks and everything changed whilst the button is held down. Same with heavy attacks. Regular attacks; you just play like normal.
Ehh.
It doesn't sound too bad.
But it must have gotten annoying in boss fights huh?
Very; especially when you had to press the buttons in order to counter certain moves. Range could only counter blue attacks, heavy red, and blah blah blah.
Wow.
So HS is basically Frustration:The Video Game.
Im makes me wonder how the developers thought something like that would be a good idea.
Well, it was different. And I kinda liked it. Especially because it was different. I loved playing as this cute little Kai girl. She was very different and always made me coo xD. Plus, she shot arrows out of some firing barrel-thingy, and you could slow down and guide the arrows into the enemies with the Sixaxis controller, I LOVED it. Her missions were just so fun.

It's actually the first DMC game that's looked any bit interesting.

Of course I also think Dante looks like that chick from Boys Don't Cry.. Is this BDC5?

I don't care. If it can be a good hack and slash game like God of War 2 or Bayonetta then it'd be far superior to the bulky predecessors.

Don't know if this had been mentioned before, but here's some news.

DMC creator, Hideki Kamiya, apparently DOES NOT like the new take on Dante.
http://scrawlfx.com/2010/09/devil-may-cry-creator-not-too-fond-of-new-dante

Makes me wish the actual creator has a hand in this.
Well, he was the main creator, but only had a real hand in the first one, or that's what I think I read. Reuben Langdon directed 3 and 4, did Dante's voice, and his mocap. He did a good job and was the best Dante and the best director. He didn't even like DMC3 much, but especially not DmC Dante. I wonder what Reuben Langdon feels...

while i applaud capcom's decision to delve into dante's younger years i just hate the way he looks, he looks to emo (i hate emos, they fuel the hate that keeps me warm at night- that and queen latifah). maybe if they combines something along the lines of nero mixed with this new dante (just aesthetically) dante would be awesome. i love the new direction for the game i just hate the design. im sure the game will still kick-ass but i still want to look kick-ass as well
EDIT: I don't care anymore...
to your original response i only have to say that i know dante is still dante but i just dont like the way he looks. if dante were dressed in a tutu wouldnt that piss you off a little? im not saying they need to change dante entirely but i think they do need to change his appearance, thats all. im not going to judge him based on his looks but i would like his looks to reflect his character and i think this style doesnt do him justice, thats all so stop flaming over a label man.

if an apple looks like and orange i'll say it looks like an orange, even though its an apple. i just would like the apple to look like an apple, thats the point im trying to make

I just wish he had white hair and the red jacket, personally.

To me, that's just iconic. It would be like Mario wearing a sombrero (which might actually be awesome) or Master Chief shooting everyone without his helmet on. It just seems different for the sake of being different and trendy.

Wanna make him a rebel? Give him longish, metal style white hair. Or something. I don't need Dante to look like a Twilight vampire (as much as I hate the reference, it is apt for the situation...)
I'm with Mongoose here, I just want the White Hair and Red Jacket. It's his style.
Woohoo! Our army of support is growing!

We'll totally get back the legendary white hair of awesomeness and red jacket of kickass!
Want to know whose style the White Hair red jacket is? Xion not Dante

And Bloody Roar 3 the one that first had Xion came out before Devil May Cry so don't give me that whiny they made him look like Dante crap since the games came out months apart.

I don't care too much about the look, I mean, if he still acts the same and they can justify the change then I don't mind, but the gameplay in the trailer looked really fun. Too bad everyone just wants to rant on about how they ruined dante. I'm looking forward to this game.

Lemme tell you something buddy.

Fans will complain about EVERYTHING.
If someone changes something it suck, if nothing is changed it sucks, if they re-release a game everyone has wanted some fans will still whine and say it sucks.

So just ignore them, and if you enjoy the game then that's all that matters.
Arguing with fans like the ones your angry with will get you nowhere.
Exactly.

They change too much, then they've "lost their roots" or "sold out" and said franchise is "ruined forever."

They change too little or not enough and then it's "too much like the old ones" or "lacks innovation" and it's still "ruined forever."

And God have mercy if they remake it.

I am too. In fact, I'm downright excited. I accepted the fact that the old series, and Dante, are gone, and I will gladly mourn them. But not moving on is like your wife dying and you refusing to try to move on and make yourself happy (or so I think.) It will be hard, no one really wants to, but it is something we all must do.

Maybe they'll fix some of the issues to the actual gameplay part of the game. Slapping a new look on Dante is the least of our worries.

I'm not gonna bother reading all the comments since I'm sure most of them are filled by idiots whining. Yes, the new look is strange, but it's an experiment in style. Besides, it's been said to be a reboot/reimagining, nothing says the change has to be 100% permanent. For all we know, this could be like Metal Gear Acid, only loosely related to the main continuity. Though if it does wind up being a prequel, it's interesting to see if the rumors of Dante having different color hair before are true (as I know most sources say he and Vergil had white hair from birth and others imply it was darker before his powers "awoke").
Or maybe he dyed his hair?

I mean, do you want to look either 'different' or 'bishi' in a young offender's institute?
That doesn't necessarily work in this case. If it was hair dye, the white would be showing on all of his roots, as opposed to starting as a splotch on the back of his head and expanding.

Dante isn't really bishi, or at least not that girlish, Sephiroth kind. In any case, most sources I've read about have suggested from time to time that Dante had darker hair before his demonic nature fully awoke. It's gonna have to be waited to be seen if this is really a reboot or just an extensive prequel that will finally tie up loose ends.

I found Dante's cheesy wit borderline unbearable, so I'm all for a grittier treatment of the character.

But I don't think DMC games shouldn't be trying to please the non-fans at this point. I was up in arms about the changes to Cole for InFamous 2, so I'll repeat the same arguments I made in those threads.

If they want to change an iconic character so radically, they should make a new character. Call it a spin-off if you absolutely need to capitalize on the name recognition, but don't completely soil an existing and relatively well-liked character just to cash in on the focus-testing.
Wait a minute... I do believe you made this comment in one of my forums about disliking the change to Cole.
Color me thoroughly confused.

I know I made a similar comment. That's why I mentioned it. I disagree with the radical changes to Dante, despite my preference for the newer treatment, for the same reasons I disagreed with the similarly radical (and reversed) changes to Cole. They shouldn't monkey so heavily with an established and well-liked character. They should have slapped a new name on him and called it a spin-off.

Yup; that for sure was you.

I completely agree. But this is a big reboot, and don't get me wrong, I find the major change a bit much, but it IS a completely new character, named Dante, with a new story and life built-in. Had it been a sequel, like an actual DMC5, then I would join the other hater fans about this. Or if they slapped a new look, called him Dante, called it a reboot, but kept all the ties to the old games, then that, too, would bug the hell out of me.
