I'm not gonna bother reading all the comments since I'm sure most of them are filled by idiots whining. Yes, the new look is strange, but it's an experiment in style. Besides, it's been said to be a reboot/reimagining, nothing says the change has to be 100% permanent. For all we know, this could be like Metal Gear Acid, only loosely related to the main continuity. Though if it does wind up being a prequel, it's interesting to see if the rumors of Dante having different color hair before are true (as I know most sources say he and Vergil had white hair from birth and others imply it was darker before his powers "awoke").

I know. I love the sword. I am just worried it will become something similar to Dante's scythe in Dante's Inferno. It'd be cool, but it'd be a bit tedious, and no one wants to see DmC become God of War: Hades May Cry. Though I am sure they can leave out the Quick Time Events and whatnot.
Im hoping the sword is something the player can alter depending on their play style.
i love the idea of Grappling an opponent with it and forming the blade again to smash them into the ground.
I dobut that there will be any QTEs, or at least i hope not.
I also don't want to see them make you hold down a button to have range attacks, normal attacks, and heavy attacks, just like Heavenly Sword. If the story was as good as HS, I would gladly play this game.
Never played HS....but they made you do that?
Id rather separate buttons for each but that they can be used in conjunction to pull of special moves.
Yeah, to do range moves you had to hold down either R1 or L1 and the attacks and everything changed whilst the button is held down. Same with heavy attacks. Regular attacks; you just play like normal.
Ehh.
It doesn't sound too bad.
But it must have gotten annoying in boss fights huh?

Gameplay looks as insanely awesome as usual, and I like the new enemy designs.
Uh, correct me if I'm wrong, but no gameplay has been released yet?

Very; especially when you had to press the buttons in order to counter certain moves. Range could only counter blue attacks, heavy red, and blah blah blah.

Wow.
So HS is basically Frustration:The Video Game.
Im makes me wonder how the developers thought something like that would be a good idea.

Oh poop, ya got me.

I meant the Dante's fight in the trailer. I wasn't thinking and put gameplay instead. :p

I just wish he had white hair and the red jacket, personally.

To me, that's just iconic. It would be like Mario wearing a sombrero (which might actually be awesome) or Master Chief shooting everyone without his helmet on. It just seems different for the sake of being different and trendy.

Wanna make him a rebel? Give him longish, metal style white hair. Or something. I don't need Dante to look like a Twilight vampire (as much as I hate the reference, it is apt for the situation...)

I'm with Mongoose here, I just want the White Hair and Red Jacket. It's his style.

We'll totally get back the legendary white hair of awesomeness and red jacket of kickass!

They're referring to him as a punk because that's sort of the design they're going for with the character. He looks like a young Darby Crash, and he's got that attitude. It's not rocket science.
Probably based the look on the post heroin version.

I'm going to hell for that one aren't I?

Still I don't think that's quite what they were going for. Earlier on somebody posted a picture of the lead designer side by side with the new character design. The resemblance is uncanny - plus Ninja Theory are a British company and the new Dante apparently has a union jack on the shoulder of his jacket. I'm not saying Mary-Sue just yet, but the evidence is steering me in that direction.

I'd still the say the new Dante looks more My Chemical Romance than The Germs at the moment. But then I am basing this on a two minute trailer that didn't really tell us much. My initial opinion is really all I have to go on.

And this isn't rocket science, it's harder. More like brain surgery.

FINALLY! Thank you, you are now part of the minor group that likes dante's new look I'm glad to see there are other people that are open to a change in the main characters change in looks
O_O why does it say you quoted me saying "SNIP"?

But yes, I admit, I adore his new look. It works for the whole dark, gritty theme. And I enjoy the slightly less gothic outfit. He is wearing something people actually wear.

I have said it before, but his other outfits consist of:
1. A Gothic Dress Suit
2. A gothic vampire outfit
3. Some supermodel-like outfit, which made no sense.
and 4. A cowboy outfit... really?

EDIT: Although, the British flag on his left arm of the coat is a bit random...
oh snip is so it cuts down on the space and so people don't have to re-read your topic to hear my response and the british flag is cause he's going through a punk phase

No, no. Rocket surgery. The most awesome of surgeries.

And yeah, I made a joke in another thread about him looking like Darby Crash albeit post-mortem so I think I'll be joining you in hell! Save me a good seat!

I found Dante's cheesy wit borderline unbearable, so I'm all for a grittier treatment of the character.

But I don't think DMC games shouldn't be trying to please the non-fans at this point. I was up in arms about the changes to Cole for InFamous 2, so I'll repeat the same arguments I made in those threads.

If they want to change an iconic character so radically, they should make a new character. Call it a spin-off if you absolutely need to capitalize on the name recognition, but don't completely soil an existing and relatively well-liked character just to cash in on the focus-testing.

I've heard the theory that this is a prequel to before even DMC: 3 which is not only wishful think, not only recursive and unneeded, but dumb. If this is Dante before he grew up, I don't really want to deal with him. I don't want a game where Mario is a rap-listening little punk who looks punched in the face either.

Of course, I can't judge based on the gameplay as there is none yet, but that does little to allay my issues. A large appeal to the game was Dante and his goofy, over-the-top attitude. The trailer seems to be taking itself too seriously. Taking away the camp removes something fun and unique about the game.

If it turns out to be a good game, I'll probably rent, maybe even buy, but I doubt it will be something I'd consistently replay like Dante's Awakening.

I have 1 minor problem why is Dante a smoker?
Cause it's so edgy and cool! Dante is obviously totally against the system! Row row fight the power!

Fun fact: Kamiya intentionally made Dante a non-smoker because he thought it was cooler. Fuck you Ninja Theory.
That makes sense seeing as how it's considered "hip" to hate smoking now.
Of course if something becomes "cool" than in theory your supposed to be cool by doing the opposite and not caring. I guess they're still trying to make him cool but now they're trying a little harder.
EDIT: Oh, gods, I am SO sorry. I misread your post. I'm an idiot, I know. I deeply apologize.
Um...it's ok. I was just about to reply (it doesn't show me the edit in messages, just the original one) but thanks for clearing it up.
No problem, I made a mistake, and I hone up to them xD. I tend to skim paragraphs and I read over them too fast, and I feel real dumb about it. Hahah.

The theory's been quelled though, because they even said it was a reboot to the series. :I

Wait a minute... I do believe you made this comment in one of my forums about disliking the change to Cole.

um...he looked more like a Twilight vampire before. At least now he looks....different. I loved the old dante as a kid but I can't stand the look anymore. It's like every game was just him trying to act as cool as possible. Sort of reminds me of why I dislike equilibrium now. Great action, but trying way too hard to be cool.
The same could be said about it now, but at least its trying something different. It's not just raiden with demon powers anymore, and I'm actually interested in it now.
Though Equilibrium did a great job of being awesome; Hahahah.

Also, after looking at this new Dante, it seems so weird looking at the older Dante. Just doesn't seem right to me anymore, although I still love him.
