So My friends, In this thread we talk about 5 most overrated games of this gen. what do you think top 5 are? Overrated not always mean game is bad. it means overpraised by critics.

5. Call of Duty advanced warfare


Was deemed as first next gen COD with next gen graphics but in the end its same as before. yet it recieve high reviews.

4. The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt


Its not really a bad game but NOWHERE NEAR AS GOOD AS Critics praise it like giving it 10/10. the game has MAJOR flaws. Combat absolutely suck, so is controlling. story is very boring. yes its worth playing game but not even close to bieng 10/10. CDPR really suck at making core gameplay elements.

3. Wolfenstien the new order


Game is not only disgrace to series (especially RTCW) but also disgrace to old school FPS. the game was praise like "oh oweeee old schooolz" Old school shooter made by developer of Darkness, riddick (I love this game but still), and resistance??! Old school shooter with iron sight, forced stealth, scripted on rail sequence and too many cinematic cutscenes?? Old school shooter that is very slow paced with sprint system where you cant shoot? thats not old school. Abysmal game.

2. Metal Gear Solid 5 Phantom Pain


This is unfinished game that even has final part cut but recieve 10/10? seriously?? one of the most boring, repetetive game i have ever played. almost every mission feel same. kill soldier x, extract prisnor y, clear checkpost" over and over agian. there is little to no story in game at all.

GTA series has always been most overrated franchise of all time and this is no exception. it make me sick how can everytime new GTA release and got 10/10. only good thing i can say about GTA that city looks nice and feel alive. the shooting suck, the driving suck, missions are boring and dull, story is trash, so is all 3 main characters. GTA5 is just rehash of what we have played many times before.

while ROTR is just exact same as TR reboot which was one of the worse game i have ever played. new TR games make uncharted half life. lara is one of the worst protagonist i have ever ever seen "this is soooo haard"

So what are top 5 most overrated games this generation has produce in your opinion?

5. Afro Samurai 2: Revenge of Kuma Volume One

Despite the praise for it's thrilling tale of love and betrayal, I just can't help but feel the gameplay fails to live up to the story being presented here. Frankly it would have worked much better as a Telltale style adventure rather than what they ended up delivering.

4. Evolve

Yeah I know this is a bit of a sacred cow and that I might piss of the bajillions of fans out there, but I gotta be honest: It didn't do anything for me. As much as I love asymmetrical gameplay the balance just never quite sat right with me. Maybe the future expansions will win me over.

3. Battlefield: Hardline

I'm sorry but I just feel Battlefield 4 remains the superior game. I know a lot of people found the new setting and cops & robbers style premise to be enthralling, but I guess I'm just old fashioned in feeling that a Battlefield game should take place on a proper battlefield, not in a parking lot or whatever.

2. The Order: 1886

God this game is overrated. Graphics aren't everything! The fact this did so well and received such universal praise is evidence of the gaming communities casualization and the downfall of humanity as a whole.

This one time Bastion killed me: 2/10. Worst game of the decade!

So I'll just say that it's nice to see that most people have caught on to B-Cell's shtick. Not that it was difficult to see from the start, really.

OT: Really? Those are the five you came up with? Don't want to throw in another "Because I said so" argument to dump all over Overwatch since it just came out? I'm just saying you seem to only rabidly dislike games that the majority of the gaming community enjoys, so I'm surprised by the amount of restraint you're showing.

The GTA series isn't overrated, they are genuinely well produced, entertaining and enjoyable games that people like, hence their critical and commercial success, it's just that you don't like them.

However, your opinion about the games and inability to find them entertaining doesn't mean they're overrated, it doesn't make you right and millions of people wrong, it just means that you're exceptional with very specific tastes in entertainment that really only apply to you.

I mean, think about if for a moment, lets assume that you are right and everybody else is wrong and the GTA series is a series of bad games that are simply overrated, then how did they become so overrated?

It's easy to put on a tin-foil hat and dismiss all the critics who contribute to to the game's critical acclaim and say "Rockstar bribed all the reviewers in the world!", but how does that explain the game's commercial success amongst its fans?
GTA V sold nearly 29 million units in its first 6 weeks and made $1 billion in its first 3 days. Did Rockstar bribe all the people who bought the game too? What kind of business model is that? You would just eliminate your profits by paying millions of people to buy your product and pretend to like it (not to mention the impossible task of getting that many people to all join a conspiracy without anyone breaking ranks and spilling the beans).

You're just going to have to accept the fact that while you are entitled to your opinion about the GTA series, your opinion is an aberrant minority opinion and the GTA games are actually genuinely good games that are generally well received by critics and fans alike for simply no other reasons than the game's many merits.

Furthermore, constantly disparaging the GTA series with seemingly religious zeal at almost every presentable opportunity isn't convincing anyone or changing people's opinion about those games (or warping reality and making the games worse), it's just making your seem odd, like a modern day Sisyphus who has been punished by the Gods with the task of trying to convince the entire world that something which is good is actually bad, but with just the power of subjective opinion and hyperbole.

Doom 4. Boring, samey shooting. Controls like a rhino on rollerblades. Character depth non existent. Too much red, boring red. Nobody likes mars anyway. Not even hell. Just because it's red, it doesn't mean it's automatically hell's shagpag!

Mafia 3. It's not out yet, but it keeps acting like it is, what with pre-orders and everything...so for that arrogance alone, it is overrating itself. Also too much night, what is this? Batman??

Shadow Warrior. Where, oh where were the enemies in the final level? Disappointing final boss. Why can't i fly? A button to reheal? I'm not 5 years old, shadow warrior!

Shadow Warrior 2. Yeah, it's definitely coasting on the waves of the first game's popularity, like it owns the place. And i'm pretty sure the main guy said something about my mum and his todger. How infantile!

Erm, struggling on this one...All the games! Why do people even like games anyway? They're all so overrated with gushing fanboygirls throwing opinions in with numbers (or numbers in with opinions) to feel there may some objective truth to their emotional reaction to a piece of entertainment. I say adopt a dog or a kitten and work on a project that will bring creative fulfillment. Create a world, a story, picture, music, dance, sing. Go nuts!! I am right now, and it's only got half my family killed! Which is probably for the best, considering my toxic gene pool of mass murderers and drug peddlers. Oops, that just came out, sorry. No, that first thread was all about making unsubstantiated assumptions about both the reception and quality of future games, and making predictions on the supposed disparity between the two. The second thread was just about accusing a single game of being overrated, whereas this thread is about accusing five games of being overrated. That's five times the amount of pointless anger over people liking a thing more than they're apparently supposed to, so this is totally warrants yet another thread.

Yeah, I'm running out of ways to be sarcastic about these threads at this point.

I don't know which games of this generation are overrated because I don't know what rating to base myself on. 10/10, you say? What honest publication dishes out scores like that?

Do people seem to be into games I don't like? Nah, but then I haven't played a whole lot of new games, mainly playing older ones, working through my huuuuuuuge Steam backlog.

Oh yeah, Shadow Warrior. I can see why people enjoy it but it doesn't click with me. It feels shoddy. Weird control scheme and invisible walls all over the place. Lo Wang is more annoying than funny (liked the demon dude though). Therefore, I declare this game to be OVERRATED.

And ffs man, you're ragging on Witcher 3 (one of my fave games of the DECADE) and Wolfenstein: TNO (which I also love the shit out of) AGAIN? Just enjoy what you enjoy, man. It's alright. But leave us out of it.

I still find it funny that you're hating on TNO for having forced stealth, while pre-3D Wolfenstein was a series of stealth games.

On topic:

DOOM (2016),

Bad soundtrack, meh gameplay, VERY boring first chapter, hell looks very lackluster, glory kills (why the fuck do we need this pre-rendered garbage?), very limited ammo unless you upgrade.

And yet everyone and their dog gives it a 9/10.

No thanks, TNO and TOB (machine games for that matter) are far better in bringing back an old gerne.

What is it with you and iron sights? Have you actually played Wolfenstein 3D? It had iron sights!

It ONLY had iron sights! That weird hold-my-gun-to-the-side with a stupid crosshair covering half of the screen came later. You can ***** about iron sights all you want but you can't claim "old school shooters don't have iron sights" because that's historical revisionism.

Lured us in your with your complaints about COD. And then immediately go after The Witcher?

I'm surprised you didn't list Shadow of Mordor on there then if you think The Witcher's combat is terrible. Considering the actual combat styles are very similar (hack and slack, 3rd person over the shoulder), but with The Witcher offering a lot more versatility - especially in how you choose to fight the enemy. Discovering what spells (er... "signs") help to weaken the enemy are a big part of the experience. I had some issues with controls, but predominantly while riding a horse... and most games do horseback very poorly, so nothing surprising there. Were you playing with K&M or controller? Could be something to that.

But finally... "story is boring". What? The side quests in that game held my attention longer than most main storylines in a lot of video games. The main questline didn't interest me a ton, but it wasn't poorly written - it just didn't appeal to me on a personal level. I guess that means the game is garbage though, right?

You know, I haven't played the new Wolfenstein (a friend gifted it to me on Steam), but if your list is any indication I should really install it and enjoy the crap out of it. Question, are there any other games you hate? I'm always looking for more great games to enjoy.

OT: Sorry. I haven't played enough games from this generation to find one where I disagree with the critics in such way. The closest candidate is Undertale, but because they usually ignore how miserable is the genocide run experience (and it's not difficult to oversale the game without spoilers).
