I expect any character in a video game to be pretty cool in some way. Especially one made by a company known for good design and writing.
That said, no pre-determined character of this sort is ever going to be as cool as one I create and customize myself.
Also I see no compelling reason why there could not have been an Elf or Dwarf fighting that battle, doing the eye glowing thing, etc....
On top of that this is just a cinematic, no real gameplay footage or anything.
Hey, it's always possible that my mind will be changed, but they are barking down the wrong tree, and I see no way how this would logically be changing anyone's mind about the lack of choosing character origins and so on if they had that opinion to begin with. I mean "Ohhh, they are making the hero of a video game look like a badass, and woooow they can make pretty cinematics" <--- Intended Sarcasm
Was anyone expecting anything differant? On top of this it kind of caused me to lose a bit of respect for the idea since it's so generic. As the article points out (albiet in a differant light) this is pretty generic, "chosen one" type hero in trouble calls on heretho unused abillities to surprisingly destroy a superior opponent. A clique exploited in massive numbers of genere books, films, and anime... why not pay some money for the liscence and have him go Super Saiyan too? Or maybe "Hollow" from Bleach. Or better yet liscence things to make him a Hollow, Super Saiyan, Fade Possesed, whatever... save fanboys the trouble of the crossover fanfics. It would probably appeal heavily to the level of audience they seem to be catering to. "Dragon Age II: Hollow Saiyan Boogaloo": with special Jurai noble potential to unleash in times of crisis but only if you pre-order from Gamestop (imagine the posters of a hollow looking Hawke, with spikey yello saiyan hair, and glowing "Lighthawk" wings and tattoos from Tenchi Muyo...)
