Steam hissed out of the vents surrounding him as Jim walked through the boiler room, his shaved head perspired and he wiped it with his handkerchief. He reached the furnace, which had been having issues lately and set his tool box down on one of the tables near it, opening it up to take out his wrench and it made a loud clang as it hit the metal table.
"Fuck..." Jim cursed under his breath, the table was hot, he had burned his fingers trying to pick the wrench up. He wrapped his hands in his sleeves and slowly picked up the wrench.
"FUCK!" He shouted, his voice echoing throughout the hot metal of the boiler room, the door had opened, making a loud bang against the wall, it had startled him, and he's dropped the wrench on the table again.
Jim kicked one of the boilers, he was an angry man, large too weighing in at 6'5" and 240 pounds, but he only took out this anger on himself, by himself, around others, he was always fairly shy.
Footsteps echoed through the room, they were his supervisor's, he identify the click of those platform shoes any day of the week. Jim closed his eyes and took a deep breath, bracing himself for what was to come:
"HALCOY!!!! WHY ISN'T THE CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONING FIXED YET?" The short man screamed, his face turning red, partially from anger, partially from heat.
"I...I'm sorry sir, I meant to do it, but the guests have been complaining about the heating and the boiler had been making loud noises so..."
"I don't care what the guests complain about!" The man said, cutting Jim off before he could finish his sentence, "All that matters is what I pay you to do! Listen, you're a good mechanic, but the attitude has to stop! YOU FIX, WHAT I PAY YOUR TO FIX, UNDERSTOOD?"
Jim sighed, and clenched his teeth, he paused a long time and finally, grudgingly said, "Yes...sir."
"That's more like it Halcoy, now get back to work, I got word there are a bunch a new guests coming in soon, have it fixed by tomorrow night at closing time!!"
Jim slowly picked up his wrench, which was burning hot at this point, cooled it off, and got back to work.
