Alright then, let's compare deaths on the Pearl Harbor attack and the nuking of Hiroshima and Nagasaki

Pearl Harbor: 2,402 lives lost

Nuking: 225,000 lives lost

Conclusion: To all you wankees who means Japan deserved this...FUCK YOU!

And some twat got 9\11 mixed up in all this and what the fuck did the japanese have to do with that? Also in the 9\11 incident approximately 3,000 people died

Apparently there is a fair amount of Americans claiming that the Tsunami currently ravaging Japan can be seen as payback for an attack in WW2.

"getting a little more payback for peal harbour. they thought we forgot about that BS, didn't they?"

"Remember pearl harbour? Go tsunami go!"

Only two brief examples of a torrent of idiotic comments that seriously make one wonder where people get this crap from.

What are your thoughts, Escapists?
I think it's really funny how some on this forum are actually lumping these few total dickheads with an entire nation of culturally diverse people.

Two sides of the same coin.

I have met many Americans and am proud to call some my friends -- they are very humane and intelligent people.

I think some of us here need to remind themselves that there are assholes and saints everywhere.
This is true I guess. (I mean, you just have to look to Barack Obama to know that America isn't ALL bad) But seriously, I can think of no other country that could spawn people that are so stupid, ignorant and just plain shitty all rolled into one!
I can think of one. I can think of over 200. Remember:

There are assholes and saints everywhere.
The OP claims that he's not trying to make America look bad in this thread, but I respectfully disagree. I DO think that's his purpose. And this just needs to freaking stop. We get it, the world hates America. But using a tragedy such as this to play up one's own negative opinions of America is not much better than the people you quote using the tragedy to play up their negative opinions of Japan. No matter where these assholes are from, the OP shouldn't have even created this thread and given such ideas attention. People post stuff like this to Facebook in order to be read publicly. By creating this thread, all it does is give more attention to such comments. If you don't want to see comments like those anymore, don't give them the time of day. In one sentence... seriously, can't we all just get along?
I think if I was trying to make America look bad I could come up with better ammunition than a small amount of the population saying ridiculous things.

Just because something isn't pro-american doesn't mean it's anti-american, I didn't say "Americans are clearly stupid" as other people have in this thread. I said that some Americans had been saying these things, not ALL Americans.

Refer to the second part of my comment for my counter to this...

Not everyone on America is like these people, there are American's I know who I am proud to call friends. But this is one of those "Only in America" moments. There are good and bad things about every country yes, but America certainly has an aptitude for this sort of behavior that I don't think I've seen anywhere else.
And I'm saying, when it comes to both honorable, proud things and stupid, ignorant things, there is no such thing as an "Only in America" moment, because any country can produce its own share of ignorant assholes. I'm sorry, I hate to break it to you, but the UK is not immune to this, nor is any other country. I've seen stupid comments from British (and Australian) members of this very forum talk about re-colonizing the States as some sort of "payback" notion. I know as well that not every British or Australian person is like that, but I also wouldn't get the notion that such ideas were "Only in the UK". That's what I'm upset about.

If I facepalm'd any harder I'd probably knock myself out. I would like to think two nukes dropped on Japan is more than enough for payback, hell, one would've been enough.

Leave it to stupid people to claim a natural disaster as payback. Does this mean Katrina was payback for the Revolutionary war? Or was that paid back during the great Chicago Fire or maybe the San Fransisco earthquakes? And what about nuking them twice? Wasn't that meant to be payback?

Goddamn, I hate the stupid people in my country. They say the silliest things.

Country
United States
Let's see...

Pearl Harbor = 1 Japan.

Atomic Bombing of Nagasaki and Hiroshima = 2 US.

Killing countless innocent civilians = 3 US.

So, the way I see it, the US is due to be on the receiving end of a natural disaster or a nuke right about now.

It is estimated the next big quake will hit LA.

Remind me to find the homes of these people and shout "Payback, *****" over a megaphone when it happens.

I cannot believe anyone can be stupid or ignorant enough to say this kind of stupid shit. (O_O)

Somebody send them to Japan and throw them into the water, preferably where many of the dead bodies are floating. It'll make them snap out of the stupidity pretty damn quick.

I wouldn't think much of it. It's just a combination of people who think its funny and are ignorant of world history.

I'm actually surprised we saw comments like this before religious nutjobs claiming the disaster proves "God is on their side."
Sadly, people think that God is on their side. I'm sorry, but God is not your ICBM.

I never said there are no stupid people in the UK, I'm saying that I have never seen anything quite this bad from the residents of any other country, and if I have, it's been more than obvious that the people involved are joking, which I don't think is the case here.

Also, lets think about this for a minute. Yes Pearl Harbor sucked, but Japan had the two nukes, we had the Blitz, Russia had Stalingrad, Germany had Dresden. In regards to loss of innocent lives any damage to infrastructure, America got off pretty lightly out of WW2 compared to everybody else. So why have so many Americans not got over it yet when the rest of the world has had to. That's what WE'RE upset about.

Sorry, but unless you counted 307,006,550 comments then you completely belong in that group of red necks.
"What is this!? I don't even...."

Whatever you said just wasn't enough to penetrate my cranium.
Need more explanation.

It's fully understandable that people here rage over this but we must not forget that we can't blame America as a nation for this not the how all americans view this situation.

As long as you remember this my fellow Escapists, then feel free to hate these people who supports this bullshit whole-heartedly

*sigh* Lets go back a little bit here.
In chronological order:
Japan ruled by democracy
Emperor and military take over, raping and pillaging china
We cut off supplies to Japan
Japan bombs pearl harbor
we go to war because of this
Batan Death marches and such
we NUKE Japan TWICE
we help Japan rebuild after nuking them
we limit Japan's territory
we restore Japan's democracy and blame it all on the Emperor of Japan instead of the MILITARY
Japan becomes a business partner to the U.S.
skip a few decades
Japan pledges to help America in wars through non-combat roles
skip a bit further
Japan gets hit by Tsunami
Americans laugh

*sigh* This is why we are called the armpit of society. Trolls or not, these people really don't look at these things in detail...

Still, we got enough problems as it is... We seriously need to stop helping everyone and instead help ourselves.
