WELLINGTON, New Zealand - Police are hoping an autopsy will explain what caused a man to slump over in his chair and die while watching a screening of "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" at a Wellington cinema.

The 23-year-old, described by police as a transient, was found unresponsive in his chair, with no obvious injuries, after a screening of the vampire romance movie on Sunday night, the New Zealand Herald reported.

Paramedics could not resuscitate him.

The man appeared to have gone alone to the 6 p.m. screening. He was discovered by cinema staff about 8.20 p.m. when the rest of the patrons had left, Detective Senior Sgt. Scott Miller told the Herald.

"There are no obvious injuries to this person. And we are looking at this as an unexplained death," Miller said.

Wow... it FINALLY happened...

I am surprised it took THREE MOVIES for this to happen.

Why would you go see Twilight?
Fixed that for you.

EDIT: Ah I see someone's already done that :p. Oh well. Should probably have read the thread first.

this guy just helped me prove a point i've been arguing with my little sister for years-exposure to kristen stewart's potato-face acting is hazardous to one's health and must be avoided.

Probably a random Heart Attack or something, most likely unrelated to Twilight itself.
Probably. But this is just ironic.
It's not ironic in the slightest.

OT: That sucks. Too bad for his family, it's obviously not because of the movie.
Let me fix that for you.

OT: That sucks, too bad for his family, it's obviously not because the movie is a horrible piece of trash, just an unhappy coincidence.

There we go.

Also, at least on the plus side he didn't have to sit through that whole godawful film.
Hahahaha, oh wait, that wasn't funny in the slightest.
Really?
I don't care about your opinion of the movie, so I don't see why you should go around flaming something, that in my opinion, isn't as terrible as many people make it out to be.
Sure, it isn't great, and sure, you may not like it, but you have to go around spouting out your opinions of it? No, you don't. If you don't like it, don't watch it.
I'll fix this for you too.

"WWWaaaaaahh! Why does everyone always pick on a movie I like!? WAAAAAAAAAAAHH!

fix'd.

I know Futurama explains it: The use of words conveying meaning other than the literal intention.
But that's not irony. That's wordplay. A psychic dying in unforeseen circumstances is ironic, but the irony arises not from a separate meaning of the words, but the situation itself.

<quote= His probable last thoughts>Oh boy, I'm glad I finally got to see Splice! Though there are an awful lot of teenage girls here...and wait, are those Team Jacob tea-shirts!? Oh god...this isn't Splice! I need to get out of here! Oh god...I can't get to the aisle, and the movie is starting! NO! I WON'T BE INDOCTRINATED! YOU'LL NEVER TAKE ME ALIVE, MOVIE!

*stops own heart with willpower*

Atleast I imagine it was something like that.

That's VERY interesting, wouldn't you say.
I'm going to go around telling all of the twilight fangirls I know that someone died for no apparent reason during a screening of Twilight!

The irony comes from the fact that most guys say they would rather die than watch Twilight. This guy literally did so.
Lest it not be said enough...that's still not irony. That falls under "an amusing coincidence," which is almost the exact opposite of irony. The juxtaposition of Circumstance X being articulated as a matter of hyperbole and Circumstance X being realized as a matter of reality do not irony make.

How is it ironic? It's funny, sure, but I don't see the irony.
It's perhaps not ironic, but the 'joke' of it is that many people hate twilight. The fact that someone died whilst watching it; it therefore being bad enough to induce death, means people are mistaking funny coincidence for irony.
/tear?
Seriously, who cares?

Anyways, relevant to the thread, that is hilarious. It's evil is actually killing people now, instead of corrupting them.

I've been told there are many different types of irony. The one I mentioned, and the one you mentioned, are both included.

Yours is definitely the more common type. For instance, I am pestered to do exercise because I spend most of my time being lazy and playing games and shit like that, as this will for instance, "get me hospitalised". I then proceed to get myself run over while on an exercise bike. Quite ironic, and we can all laugh.

I feel deeply ashamed at myself for giggling.

My condolences go to his family, but jeez...he must have already thought he was in hell.

I've heard that too, but I thought it was just an excuse for people who don't know what irony is.

Man sees movie, then dies of unknown incident duirng movie.

Irony being...?
Chill, he was joking. He was mocking the fact that a man died of a non-injury based death at a screening of a movie renouned for it's poorness. There is no need to be sharp with him.
