so, you're saying pornography has the moral high ground against other forms of media?

Scary thing is, I kind of agree with you. While there are 'stars' in the industry, I've never felt like porn has pushed someone on me that I'm supposed to like, unlike, music, movies, etc.

Almost anyone can do it if they want to and find an audience, too, as tastes are so varying (a paying audience maybe not, but when it's free people will look.)

While a fair amount of porn is still the stereotypical slender blonde with implants, I think it's slowly moving away, and there seems to be room for everyone, thanks to rule 34 and the wide range of fetishes out there.

I guess I'm just saying it's nice to have one form of entertainment that neither Cowell nor Disney are running :)
Not at all. What I'm trying to say is it's not the media that's the problem, it's how it's used by businesses excessively to sell products and turn people into consumers.

The internet has provided the means for people to easily create art and to distribute it largely independent of corporations. If you make something, no matter how ridiculous it is, you are pretty much guaranteed to find an audience on the internet. You no longer have to go through highly commercialized, profit-driven means of distributing your work to get it out there. You aren't going to have to change it to make it appeal to a particular demographic or some bullshit like that. And in turn, it leads to a more rich culture that isn't divided into stale, artificial demographics.

You mentioned rule 34 and all the different fetishes out there, a lot of that stuff exists thanks to the internet, and I think that's great. What is some strange fetish that involves, I don't know, people dressing up as cardboard robots and fucking (I'm sure that exists somewhere) objectifying?

I think my main point is all of that diversity isn't just isolated to pornography. Look at all the flash cartoons and games, underground music, indie games and crazy memes out there. We shouldn't censor this, and I'm sure you agree, we should encourage it.

You know, if/when I have kids, I would rather my child go on Newgrounds.com and watch flash cartoons of stick men getting blown up then be bombarded with advertisements disguised as games, videos and pictures on Disney.com. That's largely how I grew up, and I'm an extremely non-violent person. You know what Newgrounds did to me? It made me want to be an animator when I grew up, and so I made stupid little cartoons and stop-motion lego animations.

Disney and other websites would most likely make me want to buy bug my parents to buy me something. That doesn't mean I think we should censor Disney or other related entertainment corporations though. I loved Disney movies when I was kid too and still do today. But what I think we should do is simply resist their attempts to control our lives.

Also, I love the Mike Patton avatar. His work with Mr. Bungle ignited my interest in a whole shit-storm of awesome, strange music :D.

Errrmmm. I can't find anything about this on the BBC news site. Until then I don't believe this will happen.
GOD. THANK YOU! Why is everyone taking this as bloody fact?

I'll be 18 in a year or so, so I'm honestly not that bothered by this. Probably a good thing. Anyone with half a brain could get around this by using a foreign proxy.

Isn't the "sexualization of children" due to the media, adverts and celebrity culture? Oh right, we NOT supposed to be rational.

Nevermind.
Actually...that's probably a bigger cause of early sexualization and sexual deviencey than any amount of porn out there.

You start noticing kids trying to emulate someone who's only job/talent is having pictures taken of them that emphasise their 'assets' and shack up with other celebrities then you have a problem, and sadly, this is a problem that you'll probably notice more than some kid being deranged due to porn overdose.
Erm... yeah, that's what I was getting at in the first place.

Internet filters cannot stop the porn! Porn's always gonna be there and anyone who wants to find it will be able to with any technical knowledge at all. I'm disappointed in all the moves governments have been taking against the internet lately but I don't think they can really stop things from being the way they are.

Fail
"It follows the success of an operation by most British internet service providers (ISPs) to prevent people inadvertently viewing child porn websites."
Also, I thought it was implying that all pornography would be unavailable to everyone in the UK. That would be ridiculous. Now that I have read the gist of the article I support it, although I'm sure my 13-year-old self would not.

How is this helping anyone?
This is just so a bunch of stuck up people can be even more stuck up..

Oh wait..
"Pornography sites will be blocked at source unless people specifically ask to view them."
So basically, nothing will be different then!
"Do not click this unless you are over 18"

Great job UK, way to make a law that does nothing and still somehow pisses off everyone.
Eh, except this is handled by the ISP. Which means they have your personal details on record. (or at least, the details of the person who pays the bills.)

Honestly, it means they're filtering these sites before you get to them. It's as if they don't exist, as far as your computer is concerned.

But this is still retarded. And who chooses what gets filtered and what doesn't?

I wanted to post this, cause I brought this up on another forum type site thats like the escapist (plus put this as my facebook status) and this is the funniest thing I've seen so far. Its from a friend of mine on facebook and it just made me laugh:

"lets see how long it takes for 4chan to DDoS the servers of the people who blocked the ponr.... XD"

I dont know, call it spreading some good cheer and humour, but i just wanted to post it since he doesnt have an account here.

Does anyone raise their own kids anymore or has the government been hired as the nanny?
Where have you been for the past 15 years lol? Britain is the nanny-state thanks to the socialistic-morons known as the Labour Party :p

I know, I was agreeing with you.

Sadly, the people who's desicions actually matter in the bigger picture and make differences for everyone usually tend not to possess little useful nuggets of knowledge and wisdom like that.

First they came for child porn, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a pedophile.
Then they came for Beastiality, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a zoophile.
Then they came for the BDSM and I didn't speak out becasue it wasn't my kink.
Then they came for all porn and I didn't speak out because I didn't want to sound like a per...v.
Then they came for the internet, and nobody spoke out as it was now impossible

Oh man, poor UK. This isn't going to solve early sexualisation. If anything it will probably increase bootleg porn sales, but this time a big buyer will be underage kids.
(Probably Ninja'd here, but...)

There's no change there, then!
Haha, okay. Then a bigger portion of the buyers will be underage kids. Even though I don't know anyone at the moment who buys porn, lol.
