Not at all. What I'm trying to say is it's not the media that's the problem, it's how it's used by businesses excessively to sell products and turn people into consumers.SenseOfTumour said:so, you're saying pornography has the moral high ground against other forms of media?
Scary thing is, I kind of agree with you. While there are 'stars' in the industry, I've never felt like porn has pushed someone on me that I'm supposed to like, unlike, music, movies, etc.
Almost anyone can do it if they want to and find an audience, too, as tastes are so varying (a paying audience maybe not, but when it's free people will look.)
While a fair amount of porn is still the stereotypical slender blonde with implants, I think it's slowly moving away, and there seems to be room for everyone, thanks to rule 34 and the wide range of fetishes out there.
I guess I'm just saying it's nice to have one form of entertainment that neither Cowell nor Disney are running![]()
The internet has provided the means for people to easily create art and to distribute it largely independent of corporations. If you make something, no matter how ridiculous it is, you are pretty much guaranteed to find an audience on the internet. You no longer have to go through highly commercialized, profit-driven means of distributing your work to get it out there. You aren't going to have to change it to make it appeal to a particular demographic or some bullshit like that. And in turn, it leads to a more rich culture that isn't divided into stale, artificial demographics.
You mentioned rule 34 and all the different fetishes out there, a lot of that stuff exists thanks to the internet, and I think that's great. What is some strange fetish that involves, I don't know, people dressing up as cardboard robots and fucking (I'm sure that exists somewhere) objectifying?
I think my main point is all of that diversity isn't just isolated to pornography. Look at all the flash cartoons and games, underground music, indie games and crazy memes out there. We shouldn't censor this, and I'm sure you agree, we should encourage it.
You know, if/when I have kids, I would rather my child go on Newgrounds.com and watch flash cartoons of stick men getting blown up then be bombarded with advertisements disguised as games, videos and pictures on Disney.com. That's largely how I grew up, and I'm an extremely non-violent person. You know what Newgrounds did to me? It made me want to be an animator when I grew up, and so I made stupid little cartoons and stop-motion lego animations.
Disney and other websites would most likely make me want to buy bug my parents to buy me something. That doesn't mean I think we should censor Disney or other related entertainment corporations though. I loved Disney movies when I was kid too and still do today. But what I think we should do is simply resist their attempts to control our lives.
Also, I love the Mike Patton avatar. His work with Mr. Bungle ignited my interest in a whole shit-storm of awesome, strange music
