So how come someone preferring a sport game over a shooter and a zombie slasher amount to "taste" again?

I don´t like most racing games...I like games where long metal objects go boom and some guy falls dead.
I like action. I like the thrill of stealth games, of not getting caught, but sometimes just blow everything for the fun.
Some racing games can draw me in with diabloesque tuning part collecting or pulse pounding drive mechanics where split second decisions mean win or loss, shredded car parts are flying past me or shredded city furniture because I just plowed through a coffeeshop to use that shortcut...

F1?
Hurray, driving around in circles, trying to not touch the other drivers because you 10 billion $ Car will totally desintegrate then, going for best lap times and changing youre tires every now and then...oh no wait...a pit stop is only for repairs nowadays, changing tires is something you can do maybe ONCE and refueling? FUCK YOU Fuel is for pussies.
I hate the new official F1 ruleset...it sucks.

No, an F1 game or indeed pretty much every racing game will probably not grant me as much satisfaction as some lame, standart brown FPS ever could.

Only Pure, NFS Most Wanted and some old title I forgot hooked me, because not only was the driving fun, it had nice cars and stuff, it also had tuning.
I like to build "the perfect MacGuffin", which is why I like weapon customization, vehicle customization and so on.

And I AM European...I actually watch F1, but it is just not a great source of fun for me to actually play...it´s like playing Flight Simulators...if it´s not a WW2 fighter-plane or modern Jet that is simulated, it just ain´t fun.

Toy Story 3 outsold Starcraft 2 here.
So, yeah.

Interesting how the fps it's hot to bash is the one that has the most recent release. Just wait until Black Ops and Halo will be hailed as some sort of God in comparison.
Dude, not going to lie, that game is a blast.

OP: I prefer Forza Motorsport, personally.

I don't see how any of those choices are indicative of good taste. But whatever floats your boat, I guess

F1 2010 outsold Halo Reach and Dead Rising 2, together, in the UK.
Super VROOM Vol. 3, No. 79 outsells Space Alien KABOOM and Icky Grr SPLAT.
Even though i like the former, thats an effective way to sum it up to the masses. XD

This is why I never got sports games, the appeal in halo is I cant go outside and DMR some elites. But I can go drive a car if I want to. I can also play soccer. But am I gonna pay 60$ to go play soccer...no thanx im saving up for a rocket launcher.
Do you even KNOW what Formula One is? Getting in your car and driving in circles has as much in common with an F1 race as the Wright flier has with the Space Shuttle.

I generally agree with the "if I want to play a sport I'll just go outside" sentiment, but not everyone has access to a Formula One car. Hell, 99.9% of professional race car drivers don't have access to an F1 car!

Rise my fellow Brits and march into the stores and buy more Reach! Lest the video game developers think that Racing games are better than FPSs! REMEMBER REACH! THIS IS FOR JORGE AND NOBLE 6, my noble 6! Not yours coz mine is better! :p

Just for note I hate any racing game that does not involve a plumber wearing a red hat.

Seriously though, who cares I mean if Microsoft catch wind of this expect them to release Reach on the PC to push their sales up.

IMO most racing games are boring, at least FPSs, Action/Adventure games can make for some fast paced and excited action.
I would be pretty happy if Microsoft released Reach for the PC, not gonna lie. Pity it's such an unlikely thing to happen.

OT: I've never really liked racing games that much, sometimes their ok, but sometimes I wish for nothing more than their creators to be smited by Thor's Lightning. (glares at Gran Turismo 3)

I don't really agree with that sentiment, playing a sports video game is vastly different from it's real life counterpart. It's like saying 'why play Tekken when I can go and fight people in real life?'

Well the rest of my fine countrymen can keep their racing car games, and I'll be having fun with Civ V. I'm happy it came in 4th.

So you are saying the British have good taste because the majority of the population bought a racing game instead of a science fiction shooter. Am I missing something here?

This made me chuckle but not in a malicious way but rather a "break from tradition" relief amusement. I'm a little tired of shooters dominating the charts as of late so it makes a change to see some competition step up next to it.

Hell of a ballsy thread for a title though, it gets my thumbs up ;)

Wouldn't of expected that due to the huge ad dollars behind reach. I really do enjoy racing games, well Burnout style ones anyway , but i don't enjoy halo.

To each his own i guess.
