Oh, good, more Marine Fail. The single least characterful chapter, in the single least characterful army. Why not make a movie about a Tyranid Hormagaunt? Or a Necron Warrior? Seriously, Space Marines in general are faceless, Ultramarines doubly so.
It's how the 40k universe is set up. When it expands into a new form of media, it has to start with the Marines. It's probably because viewers find it more difficult to sympathize with non-human characters, and if it were about the Imperial Guard people would claim it ripped off other movies like Starship Troopers. Plus, everyone recognizes them for what they are, so it will increase publicity. It's the most logical option.

Ultramarines are the oldest chapter?

There one, key word being one, of the first 20, but they are by no means the oldest. If legion is the oldest its the Dark Angel's, since they are the literal first legion.
Really....shit I completly forgot about that emo chapter...
oh well doesn't really matter all that much since I'm a necron player now
(oneday I woke up and thought "you know what? FUCK THE GOOD GUYS I'M GOING EVIL!")
There are no good guy's in 40k. Just varying degree's of GRIMDARK.[/quote]

then I have chosen the grimmest and the darkest

You're seriously saying that Space Marines are more faceless than Necrons?
Ultramarines are.
Why is it that every time the Marines are showcased in something, it's always the Ultramarines. They're the most characterless, vanilla chapters which means that the script was probably very generic originally and they decided to brand it 40k when they bought the script.

I too would've preferred almost any other race.
They should make a comedy movie about the Orks.

Well technically, Necrons are neither Grim, nor Dark, they don't have any emotions to be grim, nor do they beleieve what they are doing is wrong enough to be Dark. In the grand scheme of things, Necron's and C'Tan are for more a force for good than they are for evil. Atleast from there own perception.

There has never been an army that marched into battle thinking God sided with the enemy.

Ultramarines are showcased because there one of the most well known, and all round successful Space Marine Legion's. They don't have any flaw's, while that may not make them the best character, that does make them the best Space Marines (bar the Grey Knight's but there on another level entirely)

But you could say that about everyone in this game... except maybe Deldar.

I see no sense in moaning about a movie we have yet to see. Show some appreciation for the fact that a 40k movie is being made... even if it's about the Ultramarines. This will get the franchise more publicity, and to people who can't tell Dark Angels from Blood Angels it's probably best to be introduced to this particular microcosmos via a somewhat basic/generic chapter.

Yea but it's not going to make the movie any more interesting.
A story about the decent of a chapter into chaos: that would be interesting.

I just hope that they present them as the overbearing space nazis they are and not some band of benevolent white knights.

Because the ultramarines are the every man chapter. A bit by the book but they represent the average space marine a lot better than any of the other founding chapters. Sure other chapters might be more interesting in ways but none of them represent marines as a whole quite as well as the ultramarines do.

As to the movie its self, could be cool or it could suck quite badly. To early to know but I will be interested to see what it comes out looking like and while probly watch it at some point regardless of quality (unless the cgi is just terrible).

Meaybe not the C'Tan, but necrons are motivated by pure hate towards the living, so it's pretty much dark... or at least emo :D

I don't know about you guys but I really hope to see a movie or series about something like the Horus Heresy. I can't see GW going for something like that though, heh.

I know what you mean.
I have a bad feeling its going to be as dull and cheesy as the Dragons of Autumn Twilight movie.
