I wish they did a Cain movie. Preferably as an anime and directed by Satoshi Kon. He could give the movie the action and the humor it would need.

According to the Codex Pictures website their past works include Bionicle for Lego. This does not bode well. The best I am hoping for is a 90 min dawn of war intro. The worst will probably be a 120 min PG toy commercial replacing space marines for ugly legos. I hope they at least get a decent writer to put in some snappy dialog.
Its going to be 70 minutes long, and Direct to DVD.

Not on the big screen yet, but baby step's.

Why is it always Ultramarines?, Black Templars dammit!
Hell no, SPACE WOLVES! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I concur, though we get the incredibly imber new codex with guys in power armour riding Wolves.

I also agree with all the post about the Ultra-Smurfs being the most boring chapter. Not to go on a nerd rant here but Inquisitor did Dark Angels and that was its one redeeming feature. I play Space Wolves and naturally hate the Dark Angels but they are interesting at least.

Seriously, Games Workshop needs to mix stuff up. Everyone ends up creating their own chapter anyway so no one is going to go rage at you for choosing a chapter that has little to no backstory (Iron Hands, Salamanders (Despite Political Correctness raging), any of the non-first founding chapters). Hell why not create an adventure about a sort of Ronin Space Marine whose honour is lost. Then he befriends a small child and decides that life is worth living again and stops an entire Tyranid, Orc, Eldar and Chaos invasion alone on the planet Idon'tgiveaflyingarse IV. He can also have an Irish accent and eat Baneblades for breakfast. But then the child dies and he rages and pays 10 points for a Heavy Flamer to burn the world and himself.

Actually i quite like this idea.....

If it's gonna be CG, why not just hire the studio that did the Dawn of War 2 intro and Space Marine trailer? Games Workshop and the Black Library could come up with the story.

Oh, good, more Marine Fail. The single least characterful chapter, in the single least characterful army. Why not make a movie about a Tyranid Hormagaunt? Or a Necron Warrior? Seriously, Space Marines in general are faceless, Ultramarines doubly so.
I don't think Necrons or Tyranids are very charismatic either...

Games Workshop and Black Library will be coming up with the story. Knowing how closely GW treat there IP, they will not hand it off to some random screenwriter, nor will they accept anything less than awesomeness.

As for not using the guy's who did the trailer, either that was Relic, in which case, they won't use a Video Game Studio, or it was a 3rd party, which, could have been these guy's, who knows? (serious question there btw)

The Ultramarines are freaking crazy!

From what I have read they are the chosen of the Emperor. I am a little short on my UM lore but to say any of the chapters are vanilla is just, well, stupid.

Not one Chapter was unaffected by the Heresy and each chapter has made choices which have led to massive rifts etc. From what I know it was only the Ultramarines that Horus feared. In fact didnt he have to frame Prospero, primarch of the Thousand Sons, to get the Ultramarines from interfering in his plans?

If the great Warmaster Horus feared the interuption of the Ultramarines then that is fucking saying something. Let alone not wanting to face them on the field of battle!

I personally like to see them start with a Ultramarine movie. It will be no means easy to portray the greatest chapter of Marines in a movie format; so I wish them the best of luck and look forward to seeing it.

But just think... If this goes well, imagine a movie based off the Space Wolf training world Fenris. Or an Imperial Guard movie that would just dwarf Starship Troopers in scale.

There is no richer universe than Warhammer 40k. I may not play the game anymore, but I read the books. Dark, mysterious, savage and lets not forget they are all still human. I for one am happy to see this and happy with their choice of chapter.

Just remember, the more successful these things are, the more we will see. Even if you arent happy with the choice of Chapter you should be happy that FINALY GW has allowed someone to make a movie. Of course I hadnt realized they had made two already (one not published) so I will go seek it out.

In essence, yes. Though it's rather like comparing negative numbers, in terms of army character.

Necrons are all faceless killing machines, built for the sole purpose of exstinguishing life. Pretty faceless, but at the same time, there is a certain character to the army as a whole.

Space Marines, on the other hand, do tend to have a bit of personality, but the fact remains the entire bunch of them are the biggest cavalacade of Mary Sues there are, there is no subtlety in any of their fluff, and they are all intrinsically similar.

Sure, there are SW, BA and BT. That's it. Don't point out Dark Angels - Dark Angels are nothing but Codex Marines with an Emo twist. They do not have any distinguishing features aside from the fact that GW decieded to milk some extra cash from their fluff-fans by making a copy-paste job of the SM codex with some Special characters.
Granted, the individual chapters are kinda generic and pretty similar for the most part.

My view, however, is that a legion made entirely of 8 foot tall, power-armoured space-fascists, who have two hearts, spit acid, wear pauldrons larger than their heads, and can eat the corpses of their enemies to gain their memories doesn't really need to have much distinctive personality, because it's absolutely motherfucking grimdark and awesome.
Up to the point they get shot in the face by the nearest Guardsman with a plasma gun. ;)

Grimdark and awesome is fine. It's just much better to do it with actual people. And, frankly, compared to most of the 40K universe, Marines aren't that grimdark or that awesome.

Now, read Eisenhorn. The read Brothers of the Snake. Tell me which one you enjoyed the most. My money's on Eisenhorn. The other races are just so much more interesting.

The opening cinematic for DoW2 and the trailer for Space Marine were both done by a 3rd party, Plastic Wax. They did great work so I'm just disappointed they weren't chosen for this too.

I wonder how they'll scale the marines. The models and the background art have them in different proportions and after this it will be how people think space marines should look.

On a different note a Chaos movie would be so much cooler!

Have they done any full length feature films before? Like this studio has.

As for the Ultramarines, yes they are the poster boy's, yes everyone plays them, and yes they are pretty bland compared to the other legion's. But thats not say that they aren't still still insanely badass. They've got Marneus Calgar, if anyones read anything about the Tyrannic War, you wouldn't calling the Ultramarines lame, they've got Uriel Ventris.

Ultramarines are the oldest chapter?

There one, key word being one, of the first 20, but they are by no means the oldest. If legion is the oldest its the Dark Angel's, since they are the literal first legion.

You DO realise that it was the blood angels that fought the final battle above terra?
it was only them and their primarch that teleported onto Horus's battle barge with the emperor and fought the chaos marines there.
Thats why the blood angel primarch died, because he took on horus in single combat but was killed just as the emperor entered the room and killed horus in hand-to-hand.

while this was going on the ultramarines were on the surface routing the last of the chaos survivors along with the inperial fists, space wolves and white scars (may have missed a few there)
