knowing how to resist temptation such as teenage sex, not getting influenced by media such movies, books(i'm looking at you twilight!), music, reality shows etc. can save you from teenage pregnancy.
Christian alert!

Seriously, the denial of healthy human nature causes no end of problems, note the behaviour of Catholic priests for one example.

You do not need to resist (healthy) temptation, you need to be educated, to have a good understanding and to be prepared!

Victorian prudery. Edwardian something. The joys of finishing the sequel to The Great War, hippies, glam, Darker and Edgier 90's...

...It was inevitable.

It's an Issue I'm worried about because I have a younger sister and would hate for something horrible to happen to her.
Seriously

Well she's 18 now, but that's worse. Ironic thing is about 5 minutes after I posted that she phoned up and said she had just got a Tattoo :)

My mother is quite pissed off, and I'll get the aftermath. The tattoo is of some rum company. ???
Tramp stamp? :O
I haven't actually seen it yet, but I looked up the name and it seems to be this:

I think it's on her hip, but she hasn't come home yet.

Because we're dumb and bored. Working classes in Britian have fuck all to do and we're living on a wintery grey island in the middle of a harsh depressing sea. Having no ambition or thought for the future is something that comes with the surroundings.

Right, serious question, why is the rate of pregnancy so high with Teenagers in the UK?

Why does the UK have such a high rate? 51 out of 1000 in the highest parts of britain.

Why? It baffles me how people can have sex without a condom, becoming a dad would scare the hell out of me, why doesnt it for these people?

What do you think is the reason for such high rates in he UK, or for that matter, any country?

Sorry if it's a silly thread but i'm just curiouss
its because people get benefits for being an underage parent, seriously these people are the bottom-feeders of society. they live off benefits for their entire life and end up on £30k in benefits because they have like 12 kids
And the irony of this is that the amount of money they suck up from this is huge, yet they only have the kids out of stupidity and have got so many mouths to feed that they still struggle and yet never think "hey, maybe I should get someone to help look after the kids for me while I go out and try to get a half decent job and make something of myself."

Being British, I am in some ways very proud of my country. In more ways, I hate living here. Cheapness and stupidity seem to plague these isles, and I wish I knew why. With the toffs in power, it's only going to get worse as the upper classes with shitlaods of cash to burn decide that they really don't want to give anything back to society. Those less well off will suffer for this and yet the Conservatives will still pretend like they're representing some form of good.

Apologies for tangent.

/rant
taking away their money wont help because these kids will suffer, the best option is to force people into getting a job rather than just throwing money at them. i was made redundant and signed on for the last 5 weeks or so, they dont actually help people to get a job infact its the exact opposite they are very unhelpful and patronising

"What are you complaining about? 51 out of 1000? Whoppdee-friggin-do. In America it's 86 out of 1000. We're number one! horray"

America has 310,000,000 people living in it the UK has 62,000,000. Do the math yourself and find out the percentage

Its pointless me typing this but hey. In my secondary school(high school) We had sex education like i think once every 6 months at one point in RE, funny thing is we all had a latex cock and had to put a condom on the guy taking it even gave tips on how to make it quote "fun and pleasuarble to put a condom/femdom on" also were he worked every thrusday you can go and get a forgot what he actually called it but a 'sample pack' with every type of condom imaginable really ribed falovured etc.

I think iam just a tad childish but... eh I really dont know as to why people get pregent with the amount of nasty pictures i had to look iam surprised people have sex xD.

It's like that in every country and has been since humans first discovered that sex was awesome.

I mean, "high teen pregnancy" is nothing new. Even in the religious ages of Europe when woman's sexuality was controlled to the highest degree of the law--you still had sex outside of marriage. Now it just gets 24 hour media coverage.

As far as information, it depends on where you went to school, the religious beliefs of your parents and your own awareness of what it would mean to become pregnant.

Teenagers are notoriously stupid. Partially not their fault, they're young--but if they have no one looking out for them properly, mistakes are made.

Simple (99%) solution to the problem, all teenage girls get the implant at 13. Job done.
That seems to be quite popular now. I've seen posters for it a bus stations and things. What I want to know is why I can't get implanted with some cool chemical as well. Like whatever Captain America had.
Question! I'm sorry, but what is this implant you both speak about? Can anyone bring me up to date on this?

OT: I guess stupidity/ignorance has to take the blame for this one? As I don't live in the UK I dunno 'bout how the sex-education is over there, and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

I remember that my class had only the negative aspects of sex and STD's covered, along with the stuff like condoms, p-pills, spirals and all that. They wanted us to not want to have sex as a result of sex-ed, but if we were still dumb enough to not be "scared off" (I think that was their plan anyway) then at least we'd do it safely.

(also, my dumb humour was satisfied for today by seeing thenumberthirteen quoting number2301. It's like we're moving into some new sort of society where we got numbers, not names or something XD)

I got my own thoughts on this. But there's a lot of factors at play here. But here's my short answer, even though there are a lot of factors at play nowadays.

Back in the old days, if you sleep with someone, you marry them. Marriage was a lifetime commitment, and divorce was a very long and difficult procedure. And the social shame from the town and even one's own family if you didn't marry was an enormous weight to carry around with you.

Those times were cruel and harsh - but it worked for the most part.

These days, if you want to sleep with someone, you can have a one night stand and never have to see that other person again. There doesn't even need to be a baby involved - one quick abortion and it's nothing more than a memory. No need to worry about marriage - divorce is quick and easily nullified nowadays.

I guess the main point I was trying to make before I got carried away with myself is that everything in 21st century life has temporary, disposable, quick, easy, cheaper, painless and shameless.

People not told to do things
>People do them.

This is normal. In the UK,
People not told to do something
>People do it.
>Multitude of state-sponsored awareness sessions, general finger-waggling;
>People get bored of nannying, do it more.

I appreciate this might sound like "hurr lets just blame it on the government" but in this case I do think it applies at least to some extent.

-Peer presure.
-Alcohol.
-Most of the people who do it are thick as pig shit.
-Being a total slag is apparently cool nowadays.
-Boy: "are you on the pill?" Girl:"yes" (9 months later) Boy:"you lied"

I could name a few more, but seriously when Condoms are free for people underaged, theres no excuse. I wish I could get free condoms, spoiled brats.

OK am going to go with what I know what happened to me. am now 28 but back when I was 16. Back then my little sisters best friend what was 11 at the time got pregnant by her step farther. to stop any body finding what he did. I was blamed. Taken by police. I was taken to court had DNA done all to find out I did not do anything. I was still a virgin till I was 19 (sad I know).

all I can say is thank god for DNA testing. but I lost nearly all my friends and it took me 6 or 7 year to make everybody believe in me again that includes my own family, even thou I have never touched her.

this 11 year old at the time had no idea what she did to me.

now for me to go on to the Why. she did it all, she said "Because he loves me. and its what people in love do." so there is a trend of sex and love are one of the same. and not thinking at the time.

Edit:now for a joke, he was so young the condom would not fit

The Implant isn't be all and end all, and certainly isn't without side-effects.

It messes up the hormonal cycle of women, which I don't think would be such a good idea at a fairly delicate time in growth and puberty.

Also, just sayin', but if a fairly serious STD or something was spread around the "high-preggers" areas, that would quite potentially force a stricter use of condoms.

...Yes, I'm talking about using bio-warfare on teen pregnancy.

Perhaps a little too strong?

I second this.

Or at least, that must be one of the main reasons since so many people in England drink frequently.
