Meh, youtube is horrible anyway. Sure, it will be hard to find clips you'd like to watch online, but you can find other ways without having to deal with the worst managed community ever. Although it is a real shame for the people that don't break copyright rules and just try to share their own videos with the community. Youtube is a good starting point if you want to get famous.
The problem is virtually no one is actually breaking the rules.

Like if someone uses a sound clip from a song or movie in a sort video they make, even if they don't profit off it at all, they are accused of "copyright infringement" even though they are well within their rights of fair use.

And parodies are extremely well protected, this is merely a massive case of FRAUD as copyright owners ABUSE the wording of the DMCA.

Trust me, this won't just crush youtube, this will crush whatever tries to replace youtube, this is TERRIBLE and will affect everyone.
Yeah, for instance they completely screwed Thatguywiththeglasses over even though he was protected by law. Luckily he has his own site. The same may not apply to others trying to get out of the "internet-ghetto" as I call it. Like me for instance...
You talking about Angry Videogame Nerd?
Because if you are it's bullshit that they actually hired someone to replace him when he left, I only watched one episode with the new guy, so terrible. o_O

This is just political posturing. There is no conceivable way that any agency can shut down Youtube. It's just way too big.

No, Thatguywiththeglasses is the Nostalgia Critic. He published his 5 second movies on Youtube, but they where all taken away, even though he was protected by law. Now he has his own site filled with tons of hilarious reviewers.

Here's a easier version for everyone to read. from a reliable source too.

http://www.boingboing.net/2009/11/03/secret-copyright-tre.html

I believe part of what OP was getting at, was that Websites and ISPs are now responsible for removing copyright material whether they get a civil notice or not. The sheer massive amount of content that's copyrighted in some way on sites like youtube or facebook mean the sites really don't have a chance in hell of getting it all. That in turn means? without judge jury or trial? as soon as copyrighted material is found on one of those sites, they will be legally shut down.

The trade agreement also gives the MPAA and other groups power over the whole world. so other countries will be subject to the USAs copyright laws.

Obama called this a matter of national security btw, srs bsns, that copyright stuff.

OK, I think I have to clear something up here.....

Most people here are jumping on the claim that the US is going to shut down youtube. This is NOT the case.

What is happening is a US led agreement, being drafted in secret, for a set of international regulations and laws regarding copywrite and intellectual property. Youtube would fall under these laws, as would every other piece of media in all signatory countries.

The problems, IMO, are:
It opens the way for suppression of criticism and dissent as protected by fair use laws
It requires ISP's to inspect every piece of data going through them
It does not carry the same protections against misuse as the agreements it replaces

So no, youtube is not going to be shut down, (although lesser known sites probably will be) but it could suffer to some degree under this agreement as corporations repeatedly request content be removed (which has been on the increase the last 2 years anyway).

... And people criticise socialism. That is where pure capitalism leads you, the one with the bigger wad of cash stepping all over you. This farce is just as hilarious as the idiots believing they could shut down the internet. It'll never happen. Remember Kazaa, the P2P client? Has P2P networking died yet?

Oh really? Well they can suck my cock.

It'll never go through - and didn't the US come up with plans to control the web a few months ago? Or was that another country? Or was it something similar to that? Or am I imagining it?

Either way, the blowjob threat still stands.

What is that horrible smell I'm smelling?

Oh, right, it's bullshit. No offence to you, DCFowl, but I believe that this 1. isn't true and 2. would not be possible if America is going to stay 'land of the brave, home of the free' for any time longer.

My eyes imploded before I could finish reading. I guess it's fair ground to ban it, but when will a media sharing site not have copyrighted content on it?
