Hmm... seems I took down my "YouTube Is Doomed" blog entry for being too edgy. Pity, I could have established I saw this coming from a few years back.

That said, I imagine that YouTube would impose rigid limitations on what they allow to be uploaded before they allow themselves to be shut down. YouTube isn't really on board with the idea of sharing copyrighted information, but currently they simply don't have the manpower to get to it in a timely manner because it's the entire Internet vrs their support staff.

I didn't see a thing in there about "accusations" of copyright infringement. This deals with proven copyright infringement. Personally, I have no problem with the removal of something that allows deliberate copyright infringement.

Things like this is what makes me glad I live in Canada.
Canada is also involved with the negotiations. It's a multilateral trade agreement, effectively international law.

but you can find other ways without having to deal with the worst managed community ever.
In lieu of Youtube, its community will migrate to other websites. The will plague forums, video sites and any slightly entertaining site in their, though many will migrate to 4chan.

Seems unlikely that the U.S. government should "shut down" YouTube (though they may greatly restrict its ability to propagate copyrighted media).

Why?

Because the President himself uses it [http://www.youtube.com/user/barackobamadotcom?blend=1&ob=4]. The Internet has always been a platform for liberal interests. (After all, Al Gore invented it. [/sarcasm])

All that will happen is the stuff that breaches copywrite on Youtube will find its way on copycat sites. Partly or fully banning youtube would not achieve anything other than viewers having to search a little harder for some of their clips.

Secondly, if you can't watch a film or whatever on youtube, chances are you'll just resort to downloading it from a pirate site hence piracy would increase, right?

Good job, congress.
Why don't you fix problems with yourself before doing a shite job on anything else?
Lets start with term limits... That should fix the insane spending and corruption since you can only be there so long.

The United States tried to kill the Metal YouTube
But they were stricken down, to the ground

Tenacious D will have to rewrite their songs.

Anyway. The USA will fail. YouTube isn't just millions of videos. It's a part of everybody. And I don't think these people will even try and stop 20% of the world.

The problems, IMO, are:
It requires ISP's to inspect every piece of data going through them
And that is why such a thing will never happen.

Do you have any idea how much data is constantly being transferred every minute of every day of every year? I don't even want to begin to think of it. It's kind of like trying to quantify Infinity. It boggles the mind.
While I agree that, at present, this seems an impossible task, it does not stop the suits who have no technical comprehension of anything trying to implement it. Remember all the nonsense coming out of the Australian Government regarding a Great Firewall of Australia? Well, that looks dead in the water now, as public opinion and competent technical assessment said "no! This will not work.".

But this ACTA is being drafted outside any public scrutiny, and no country will even get the chance to vote on it. Zero accountability plus suits who know nothing of the technology they are passing laws on will most likely lead to fail, but fail can be anywhere between "I eats a fly on me meatstick" to "Yeah, I'll have some cool-aid....".

And if this is passed, people will be screwed over till it does fail.

I do recall youtube being told off... they removed all copyrighted material that was over 10 minutes. (There used to be whole episodes, of anime especially) I don't think youtube is being banned, there's a hoax somewhere. :p You're being suckered in, or you are the hoaxer.
