The comparisons between Christianity and the WBC are wrong. Christianity has only ever produced one theocratic government in recent history- the Papal States, and I'm fairly sure that these were nowhere near as barbarous as this.

Relgious conformity was not required.


In a sense, I'm saying you are wrong, though it does share some similarities, those are more cult-like and mass-obssession than actualy theolgy.

I've often wondered just what the hell is wrong with me, but in this case I was being somewhat serious. I've taken several college courses in the Middle East and Comparitive Studies of Religion, and these were probably the arguements that her rapists made when they were in court. Maybe they said her full-body veil wasn't completly covering her entire body and they saw some ankle, which got them all ready for some action. Also, under some forms of Shia law, even if a married woman gets pregnant at a time the her husband doesn't want a/more children, then the husband could say that she either stole the child from him or that she committed adultery and thus be murdered to preserve the family's honor. I'm in no way saying that it's right, but in all honesty, under Shia law she did get off easy.

My first post was supposed to be stated sarcasticly, but as always, I forgot that alot of people can't recognize sarcasm when it's written in black and white on the computer screen. Maybe the escapist should add new fonts or colors to help to alleviate these kinds of problems.

That's called isolationism, it doesn't really work out so well. The death camps of World War 2 weren't affecting America, Australia or Canada, should we have let the German culture 'rule itself'?

Pretty much we have to go on a 'hit and miss' theory. Both the Cold War and the Era of Globalization have seen two groups ruling the developing world: either superpower backed dictators or extremist nationalists, makes you wonder which are better. Pretty much my only reason to suggest we do something in Saudi Arabia is the belief that we should fight injustice at all times, kind of a naive fantasy...

I would have to agree with you, but I don't see what we can actually do. Topple governments and dictators, replacing them against the people's will? Enforce a situation like Iraq with MPs on every corner? No, I don't think so. It' a bad situation, and there's no real answer for it. Personally I would get sanctions against various "allies" (Saudis are allies to those who have money, it's US (the US) at the time, but it might soon be Russia, or China) and have it have an international thing, to hit them, and hit them hard, economically. Beyond that, I don't really see anything else we can do besides individuals / organizations to help those that need it, but then...to what end?
