So, wait, as I understand it, they have actually created life?! This is crazy. They could very easily create new beings that will render us obsolete. In short,

Super Mutants.

Failed Super-Soldier experimentation, people?

Either that or genuine evil super geniuses that create malicious artificial bacterium.

It could be used to generate replacement parts for humans that have a 0% rejection rate and don't need immunosuppressive treatments.

Deus Ex here I come! Or invisible war, if you had an xbox. That game was so awesome.
Does anyone see FEV virus coming out of this?

If this is as big as i understand, then things will be getting interesting...but maybe very, VERY terrible, too.
We'll see about that.

But seriously, if such a thing gets out of control, then it's all virus-Armageddon movies mixed together. Hope something like that won't happen.

Craig... Sweet.

Epic sweetness.

But yeah, life is only chemistry, anyway. Sure it was hard, but not impossible.

Well at least when I'm 70(20 now) hiding in a cave(Or wherever) with the few remnants of society and humanity waiting for the monstrosities that come to end us I can at least say, I saw the very start of all of this. Or it could just be a good thing, hahaha. No, no were screwed. Okay so what do you think will kill us all first? Terminator style robots which are becoming more and more into focus. Zombie or sythentic robot/humans that find us to be inferior. Really horror movies are seeming more and more likely to be real and Its not making me all that happy...

Wait, is the host cell itself artificial or is it more like artificial DNA? If they still have to use a living cell I don't think I'd count that as synthetic.
why not, all they need to do is take a stem cell, insert the artificial nucleaus and the cell will produce various new protiens and organelles

as an Alevel biology student i am absolutely facinated by this, but also horrified, think of all the things that could happen (doesnt help that ive just watched 28 days later)

This can lead to a lot of different things, from improved medicines to 'intelligent' super-viruses, and will probably (eventually) lead to all of those things.
