I strongly dislike the "holier than thou" attitude that seems to go along with most Vegans and Vegetarians.Soviet Heavy said:For me, it is stuff like relief aid and public awareness. A country like Japan will get hit by an Earthquake and the whole world is instantly on track to sending resources to help rebuild. A country like Haiti is hit even worse, and it takes Canada shouting at people to get off their asses before any help comes.
Then there is the annoying habit of people throwing respect to the dead, regardless of whether they deserved it or not. I know that speaking ill of the dead is in poor taste, but glorifying them undeservedly is just as bad. Take Steve Jobs for example. I won't piss on his grave, but I disliked him as he lived, so I'm not going to be shouting about what a great man he is.
What sort of social trends bother you?
AH HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! Ooh.. Whoo... OK, I legitimately laughed for three minutes at that...Zachary Amaranth said:And while we're at it, Faeries. Sorry but seriously? there is a fairly large portion of people in your country that speak a different language and you are surprised there are language options when you call a business? That's less political correctness and more smart business.FelixG said:I have a question for those in europe as I have never left the US, do you have to press a number on your phone to get your native language when calling a business?

I understand what you mean by the outside looking in thing; just about 2 years ago i was a pretty religious Lutheran, have since turned agnostic, so I've seen this from both sides of the fence. Back when I was very religious, i felt sorta the same way you feel about the common atheistic attitude towards religion, and i despised most of the strongly atheistic people who talk out against religion. but ever since i came to terms with my faith and became agnostic, i find myself increasingly agreeing with some of it. I'm growing to have a serious problem with how people use religion. Note, i don't think religion is inherently bad, but what I think is bad is how many people use it; many people use religion as a reason or to justify varying levels of intolerence, but most of all i dislike how many people refute basic science simply in the name of religion. I don't mind whatever people believe, but people cannot choose to ignore scientific facts simply because of beliefs.emeraldrafael said:IM not saying religious people are being discriminated against, just its tiring to see the constant fighting and demonizing of religion as more and more young people say they're atheist without really grasping the concept of what it truly means.kane.malakos said:It annoys me when religious people claim that they're facing discrimination because they aren't allowed to put the ten commandments on public buildings or mandate prayer in schools. Bonus points for when they immediately turn around and decry the middle east for being an Islamic theocracy.
EDIT: I find it amusing that I happened to post this right after the previous comment...
...
its actually kinda hard to explain why I feel this way, since Im Catholic and have that on the outside looking in relationship with atheism.
I got a bone to pick with that one. I've got some legit issues like the Patriot Act and stuff like that but those are boring, what I'm most annoyed with are the damn smoking bans. I don't smoke my cigars in restaurants and I didn't smoke them in crowded places but I enjoyed smoking them in my local tavern. I smoke when I drink whiskey and I drink whiskey when I smoke and the only people around me were other people that were smoking. Let the owner decide what can go on in their establishment.Caverat said:People who drone on about big brother and how their rights are slipping away in the western world.
That's exactly what we did though? We showed up, kicked the native populace off of their land and set about trying to breed them out or just straight up murder all of them. That sounds quite a bit like an invasion to me mate.Noala said:this is also purely Australian, don't know if everyone is aware of it but the whole Aboriginal rights thing annoys me, it's gotten to the point that if you don't like something Aboriginal you're a racist. The government's also working on to change the history they teach, so instead of Europeans settling Australia, they invaded it.
I agree both, Political correctness out of whack. I understand about slurs but basic terms become bad? Come on people and grow some skin, Political correctness is nothing but making us weak to communicate or share ideas. (Me: Hello sir. Someone: SEXIST!!)Noala said:this annoys me to no end can't have a decent conversation without someone getting upset I said the word "Japanese" instead of "Multicultural Person Of Asian Descent"MysticToast said:Political correctness.
