I was pretty pissed when that happened, I was anticipating that England would obliterate them. Ah well it was still a good match.
Everyone assumes American players suck. Tim Howard and Jozy Altidore play in the Premier League for a reason.
Well the World Cup is the only time I watch soccer and my family watches the English Premier League a lot so I assumed England would just massacre them. Tim Howard was pretty pissed off around the start of the match when England scored their goal, it was pretty funny.

I wasn't surprised much, seeing as how England usually performs poorer than expected in the World Cup.

Anyhow, my winner predictions looks like this:

Group A: France
Group B: Argentina
Group C: England
Group D: Germany
Group E: Netherlands
Group F: Italy
Group G: Brazil
Group H: Spain

After that, who can say? I'm hoping for Germany to win it all but it's doubtful that will happen.

Honestly I don't understand soccer (football for you annoying non Americans =P) you play one and a half hours for 1 point? Talk about a snooze fest. That's just my opinion.
Hey, it's not like American Football is any better, you have like 3 full teams of subs off the field, and whenever anything happens it takes 20 minutes to shuffle everything around and move the new players on. It is, quite possibly, even more boring than soccer.

Now AFL, there's a sport that labels itself "football" that I occasionally feel motivated to watch.

OT: Is it really that exciting? I mean, yes I understand some people are very passionate about soccer, but the USA has a huge population and it really isn't surprising that they can field a competitive soccer team.

That's because Carlos "I can't play defense to save my life but Bob Bradley keeps using me anyway" Bocanegra blew the defense there and left Howard out to dry. I'd be pissed too if my defense suddenly stopped doing their job.
I was thinking that during one of England's corners, but USA's defence picked up quite a bit after the goal.

USA played well yesterday. Which didn't surprise me. You don't get into the World Cup finals by playing poorly. England didn't play so well. Other than the last ten minutes and the first five, we seemed timid and generally afraid of the USA forwards. The US goal was a fluke and something Mr. Green will remember for the rest of his life. But we should have scored more, we never really tested Howard, all in all I was not impressed with the England performance. I was mildly impressed with the US one though.

Oh and for the US folks wondering how we can tie, we're not in the knockout stages yet. At the moment it's tiny little leagues. 1 point for a draw, three for a win. Top two out of four go on to the knockout stages at the end of this one. USA and England are widely tipped to be the two going forward out of their group so a draw against them isn't the end of the world for England. Doesn't make for a good start to the campaign though.

Yeah, a tie? Are we grasping at straws to celebrate a non loss? As an American I know I am suppose to cheer for the USA but....I know we suck at football. And before any says anything, yes I do call it football.

I thought we started pretty well, and everyone knew we would get at least one goal, being from gerrard or rooney.

It was an akward first match with england only conceding a goal due to Green. But I can guarantee you he won't be making that mistake again.

The second half was brilliant with plenty of action and opportunities.

But seriously, why did we have Heskey on for the whole match? He can't score. We should have had crouch on from the start or at least half-time.

Also, I watched it in the local student pub, amazing atmosphere.

Im not gonna jump on the soccer bandwagon and pretend to be a huge fan, I will however make an attempt to watch Team USA play so that I can say I supported my nations team. Even though Im thinking either Italy or Brazil is gonna win it all

Even if Green hadn't... well... screwed up, I guess (for the lack of a better word since I actually feel sorry fo the guy), I still think it would've ended in a tie.
I just remembered that before this I watched the Confederacy (spelling?) cup and USA did mighty fine there. So, not really that surprising.

I don't really care about football to be honest, never watched the game.

On the other hand, England failing to beat the USA is very lol worthy.
See: lol

Also, bring in the Rugby World Cup already! My country is actually halfway competent at it.

The goal was a fluke, but I think Greene did well to get back into the match. There was a point where I'm sure USA were going to score, but they didn't - and towards the last few minutes, it seemed that neither team really cared.

Shame, but that's how it goes. Loved Gerrard's goal though - as a Liverpool fan I got to rub it in the face of my friends that they were cheering for him.

My brother woke me up at half saying, "Didn't you want to watch this?" M'like, "Shouldn't we be down by three by now? ... Tied? The hell do you mean TIED?"
I feel sorry for poor Green, what with the flub turn goal and then that one where it bounced off his hand against the post, at least from the camera we were looking in that not going in looked lucky or he would've been kicked out of life.

Sorry but you think football is a "Snooze fest" yet you have baseball (Basically a rip off of rounders) and 'American' Football a pussifed version of Rugby and yet you call football boring not to mention you have a world series but the only people who play either of those sports seriously is America.
OT:Robert green should be shot and Wayne Rooney needs more help,at its probably gonna be spain who wins this year.

For this flame war, I will be appearing on the side for the americans, ok?

I'm so glad England didn't win, all we're hearing up here in Scotland on the news and on TV is England, England, England, England, England, 1966, England. When we couldn't care less. After a few months of them hyping themselves up and saying england are gonna win bladdy blah, I'm glad they didn't get off to the start they wanted.

One thing i'm liking about the world cup - My work is dead when the games are on
