The latest content for Left 4 Dead 2 has launched on the Xbox 360. Called "The Sacrifice," the levels show what happened before "The Passing," and is played from the point of view of the Left 4 Dead survivors. On the Xbox 360, it's also 560 Microsoft points, or $7. On the PC it's free, but Valve didn't think that was enough of a hint about their feelings for Microsoft's DLC policies.

So the price of the full game on the PC was lowered to $6.79 for a limited time on Steam. That's 20 cents less than the add-on campaign for the 360, and you get the entirety of the game, plus every piece of DLC. In fact, to buy a copy of the game on the 360 and get all the content you'll need to spend around $30 for the game, and $14 total for the two content packs. On the PC? You get everything for under $7. If you're feeling saucy, $20 will get you four copies of the game if you want to play with your friends.

That's still half the price of a single copy of the game and the extra content on the PC. Valve has long made it clear that it would rather give away these updates on Xbox Live, but Microsoft doesn't seem to enjoy the idea of leaving money on the table. This could very well be Valve's way of making its own thoughts on the cost of doing business with Microsoft very clear.

Yeah but Microsoft understands how to rid people from their money and still get defended by their fanboys for it :D

Which once again reminds everyone why Valve is awesome and Microsoft, though, for the most part, entirely competent in their business, somewhat less so.

Why is it still costing me $20 USD to buy? Is this only available in the USA or something?

I highly doubt that was a dig at Microsoft. Valve always sell games at a stupidly low price when a big update comes out, it's just how they do digital distribution.

Probably not an intentional dig at MS, but the numbers are true, so that made me laugh either way.

And I don't even have L4D. I thought 6.79 was too expensive for it :p

I might have my issues with Valve but this is just great stuff right there.

So, yeah. Microsoft clearly needs to learn something from these guys.

Yeah I hear you need friends for L4D to be awesome. Or put up with the verbal diarrhea on Xbox live. So since my friends have already long moved on to other games, I will likely never own L4D regardless of price point. That is in opposition to the fact one could call me a Valve fan boy. I am conflicted.

A little more OT: does anyone know how much the rake on Xbox Live Microsoft takes and what Valve gets?

I don't know much about Valve and its workings, but that seems like a really top-notch thing to do. They seem reminiscent of human beings or something.

Like what? That they should start giving stuff away for free instead? Won't hold my breath.

Stuff for free? Hell, no.

However, treating the people who foolishly bought your version of the game like sheep and making them pay additional money is not a good PR strategy, especially when it goes against the will of the original developers.

If i can pay 100$ for a game like bioshock 2, that i'll finish in about 10 hours, i can sure as hell pay 6.79 for a game i so far have 80 hours of.

And people always say they won't bother with PC gaming "coz it's so expensive".

Sheesh. But a fool and his money will soon be separated.
