They seem to have a tendency to pick up mod teams and small devs, which is why I don't get why they haven't picked up the developers of Black Mesa yet.
Because Valve's main and original product line is the Half Life series. Although the BMS team certainly has talent, they're only remaking a product already made by Valve, not a new and original IP. Valve's scheme so far has been acquiring other devs to develop new and original IPs. BMS isn't so much new and innovating in terms of gameplay, it's just a copy of Valve's own product.

How dare they not release a game when I want it! My self entitled ass needs their games, damnit.
I'd prefer valve spend more times on their games, the longer half life 2: E3 takes the better it should be :3. Not sure what that has to do with the thread though.

OP, you are imagining Valve as a single person, who just buys ideas off people, because he can't come up with his own... However, you're failing to take into account that when Valve buys a team, they BECOME part of Valve. It is a company made up of a bunch of people, many of whom have been hired from previous projects... I'll put it simply, Valve likes a project in development, Valve decides to support the developer with their resources, Valve buys the devloper, that developer IS VALVE.

No offense there sir I'm only kidding about but I don't have a fucking clue what you're going on about.
Entitlement is when people not only want everything perfect right now, but feel they are somehow owed as much. Many gamers suffer from this.

If Orson Welles is as good as people say he is, where's Citizen Kane 2: Kane Harder?
Orsen Welles has directed and co-directed 41 movies [http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000080].

I'm sure you could look at the list and make another list of original titles Welles has directed by himself.

For reference, here's a list of original titles Valve has developed by themselves:

- Half-Life

That's the difference...

So, again, where are Valve's games?
Wow, someone missed the point. Yet another classic example of this unmerited sense of entitlement.
In case you were wondering, the point is that you are not owed another game. You are not entitled to a regular release schedule. If Valve want to make another game, they will. In the meantime, quit with the bitching and be happy with what you have.

So you're complaining that the company is able to recognize talent when it sees it and is willing to give newcomers a chance?
Those [small]amazing[/small] BASTARDS! How dare they help the world of gaming by funding good ideas!
Someone should punch Gabe Newell in his fat face for encouraging such monsterous behaviour.
thanks Rhombus, thanks to Gabe taking clarvoyancy lessons, he heard that and now you just delayed episode 3 an extra month. there, are you happy?
Yes, yes I am, and it has nothing to do with Stardock giving you $5 every time you manage to cause another setback for Valve.

I believe Left 4 Dead was when VALVe employees were playing CSS against bots only using knives, or I don't really know, they could have lied during an interview.

Wait, you mean large companies buy smaller ones to bring in new talent and provide desirable new products?

We are Valve. Lower your shields and surrender your creative team. We will add your design and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your games will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile.

Seems to me like they're good entrepreneurs.

They see something that would make good business and they'll make us of it, without the sort of stigma that lies with other developers, namely the movie game ones.

They make good games and have great support for their customers.
Sounds better than most companies ever manage to do for us.

They know a good idea when they see it. And Team Fortress 2 and Counter Strike were made by them. Yes, they were originally mods, but Valve went and turned them into full on great games.

It doesnt matter if we enjoy the games. It's like eating a Hershey's chocolate bar than complaining that Hershey stole the cocoa beans from the rain forest. JUST ENJOY YOUR DAMN CHOCOLATE BAR!

Oh, yah, another Valve troll. You know there are more effective ways to get attention then going on the internet and crying about one of the best game development companies there is.
lol, WTF? He is just pointing it out, he isnt complaining. Comparing both comments yours sounds more like what a troll would say. Next time read the information better.

It isnt just you, a lot of guys here are attacking that dude although he didnt said anything bad about Valve.

Hold the phone...

What's with all this seemingly anti-Valve dribble recently?
The more beautiful and pure a thing is, the more satisfying it is to corrupt it. I forget which rule of the internet that is, but it's on there last I checked.

And I too am fed with with this anti Valve BS. Seriously, they make great games.

yeah, I thought about this from time to time to.

still though, portal is case in point: narbacular drop had all the portal game play mechanics - of not more - than portal. but that only made me appreciate how much the story, atmosphere and characters added to that game, to the point that the portal novelty was less than 50% for me.

regardless, valve don't seem to be doing anything 'evil' in the way that they get awesome games to us, in fact, if anything, what they are doing is great! taking great ideas from where ever they come, and helping them be the best they can be. its the type of thing that would be written on EA and Activision's Mission statement, you know... those pieces of paper left locked away in their closets somewhere, gathering dust...

Other publishing houses still hire people and buy concepts. What is the difference? Valve just provide the assets and money for the development team.
The difference is that they're Valve, beloved of PC gamers, and therefore must be right cunts.

See, it all makes sense when you've got the right mindset to think on it. :D
