I'm just glad it didn't go to Black Ops. Personally, RDR was my choice, but likely because I haven't played Mass Effect yet, let alone Mass Effect 2.
[small]Don't hit me, please?[/small]
Dont worry I havent played Mass Effect yet as well :p
Protect your head! There are those who'd hit you just 'cause.

Still, with all the hype for ME3, I feel it's actually time to get my ass in gear and play. I own ME1, I really don't have an excuse for not having played it.

But still, CoD wins best character award, that's just hilarious.

you've got to be shitting me. and yes i've played the game and know the character, hes not that stellar.
I wasn't impressed myself. It was the first award I caught on TV, and when I found out he beat Marston, I was just shook my head. I mean, really? Really?

Still, the ESV and ME3 (yes, I have yet to play the first two) premiers were worth it, along with a few others.

Sex jokes, and shit though... irritating.
exactly my point. i swear they were running through popular games behind screen going "oh shit..oh shit...which over popular game has characters with at least 3 lines of dialogue? okay..okay...him!...no HER!..no wait she is a woman..oh wait HIM! HE JUST CAME OUT SO HE WILL BE FAMILIAR!"

well i would like to suggest you go and play the first two ;] they are a bit different from each other, but both pretty awesome sci fi stories.. in which i think knowing a bit of the story behind it makes the me3 trailer even more awesome.

Its just, call of duty is overrated... A lot. If an actual call of duty character actually won it should have at least been Reznoz for at least showing some emotion. Anyway, fanboyism aside, John Marston should have won character of the year.
Definitely, and definitely. Which is why these kinds of awards (if they want to be taken seriously by the gaming community) shouldn't solely be left up to... the gaming community. Yes, a majority of gamers get to vote, but a majority of that majority are a bunch of fanboys who don't care about what or who really deserves something. Oh well, just another thing I won't take too seriously.

That is how they did it!

I've decided I'm going to finally go play them. If I don't start tonight, I'll be starting tomorrow. I did previously begin ME1, but kind of lost interest within the first few hours. However, I've been told that once you're through those, it gets better. So, I'll just trudge on through. ^^

I'm so glad that RDR won, the one game this year that had such a good story and made me rather emotional at the ending.

actually i can highly agree to that. at first its kind of overwhelming with everything and its a bit dry having everything introduced, hell i played mass effect 1 three different times through the intro before i finally got through it, then it just all fit into place that last time and i played the whole game through in one sitting over a weekend =\

its dry and a bit awkward to get used to at first..but once i did, and once i pushed myself through it, i enjoyed the shit out of it. the end game left chills up my back of adrenaline, and few games do that.

(don't want to over hype it or anything, its a different experience for everyone.)

A shame that Jack Wall didn't win best original score for ME2, I thought he did bloody well. Haven't played Red Dead Redemption so I can't judge.

Other than that can't complain too much.

Red Dead Redemption is my #2 game of the year and makes me all-time top five. Mass Effect 2 takes the year for me, though (and obviously is also a top fiver all time for me). So I won't really complain about this winner, not that it matters.

Mass Effect 2 was amazing, and IS Amazing, but the lack of DECENT DLC made it lackluster in the end.
OK...2 things

1: The lack of decent DLC makes a stellar game lackluster: You want to rephrase that? Or do you really stand by that comment?

2: Mass Effect 2 didn't even have decent DLC: Kasumi is decent DLC, Zaeed is decent DLC, Firewalker is decent DLC. Overlord is great DLC. Lair of the Shadow Broker is freaking amazing DLC. Seriously, Shadow Broker has some of my favorite action in the series so far.

Mass Effect 2 without DLC has about 40 hours of content. That's a big game in my book, and more or less about how much time a Red Dead Redemption playthrough takes.

Not complaining about your conclusions, just your reasoning.

Mass effect 2 should of gotten it. What is it with Spike's bias against RPG's?
What do you mean? GOTY 2006 was OBLIVION (game of Jesus), GOTY 2008 was Fallout 3 (honestly a pretty good game, besides my bias), and GOTY 2011 will be Skyrim.

That show was an insult to my intelligence.

"I just came up with an awesome title for a porno, just off the top of my head. 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turd Holes'! lololololol!111!!" -NPH

Stay classy Spike.

If it makes the 11/11/11 release date. I of course have high hopes, but I wouldn't be surprised if it gets pushed back into 2012. *fingers crossed*

No, don't worry about over-hyping it. I loved Dragon Age (yes, on the console *gasp*) and so I have no doubts I'll enjoy ME1/2. xD

Spikes VGAs are about as meaningful as GameFAQs character battles. Full of bias and fanboys, who cares what wins anyway? Maybe that's just me.

It's interesting to discuss something concerning video games with other people in this community. Yeah, it's shit, and full of even more shit, but still something I just recently watched that I wanted to discuss.

Mostly, I was just happy RDR won GOTY. Maybe Mass Effect 3 was better, but because RDR is my personal favourite this year, it was awesome.

The worst part about BlOp's winning Character was that when I heard Black Ops, I said to myself a "Oh, Resnov. He was a good character, I think it's de- who the fuck is Woods? No seriously. Back up, VGA's. Who's Woods."

I still can't get over the fact that this was the first award I watched when I tuned in...
It's bullshit that a game not even two months old was placed into the show, let alone into a category for character of the... year.

Okay, okay, I get it. VGAs suck, and are shit. At least I know from personal experience this time? >.>

I am just glad Call of Duty didn't win. I feel they shouldn't have even nominated any of the games that came out in the last month since they are so new, but that's just my opinion on that.
I agree... that was pretty frustrating. I still don't see how 'Woody' deserved character of the year of Marston, but I guess I'm a little more than biased.
I do. In fact, I really do.

The one thing I didn't like about the RDR story was John Marston.

I can't understand, at all, why you, guys, like this character?

In every cutscene he goes around threatening people he works for, who then give him a task, which he then fulfills thinking it's the last one and then there is another task, and he threatens the mission giver...

So, eh, going around exclaiming how wrong they were choosing a character who isn't unbearably naive is wrong.

Yes, maybe Woods won just because they needed to give another award to Black Ops.

But he was damned better than John Marston.

OT: I'm totally alright with all of those, except for Best Soundtrack. And, I'm not that much of a fan of RDR, but, hey, it won, great.

I should have known.

But my friend called me and told me about TES V, so I freaked out and started watching it.

I'll try not to next year.

No I know it's interesting but a lot of people are getting bent out of shape over it. Seriously it's like being disappointed over a Nintendo or Final Fantasy character winning the polls at GameFaqs. The vast majority at GameFAQs are uberfanboys and the people participating in the VGAs cant be far behind.

You'll have to excuse me if my posts are exceedingly stupid I'm ill and just downed a shot of nyquil. So derp de herp de zzzzzzz...

Edit: I'm almost at 4K posts? Holy crap when did that happen? Why didn't you people warn me?! D:
